Community Spotlight Episode 4

Archive: 25 posts

Welcome to our fourth Community Spotlight! For those of you who don't know, Community Spotlight is a way for us to show off, or "Spotlight", our favorite levels made by you! Our Spotlight Crew scours the Level Showcase (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40) for awesome levels, and they neatly organize them in a list format to help you find and play them on your own. Each level has comments from each Crew member that selected that level, so you guys can get a good idea of how many Crew members enjoyed it! If media is available, it will be provided in the listing. In order to keep this fair, any users considered "inactive" are separated from the selection and placed at the bottom. This is to ensure our active users get the credit they deserve.

Level Title - Forum Username/PSN Username - Original Thread

Solidplace - Yarbone/Mr_Spoonylegs - Thread (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/http//www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6167)
Description:
"I worked on this level for over a month >_<
The level contains platforming and puzzling, and more things... just figure out yourself.
I can't really say what kinda theme it is so just take a look at the pictures." - Yarbone
Our Thoughts:
Well, this level is only for the hardcore gamers, it's actually pretty difficult, Yarbone has decreased the difficulty and I must say I'm impressed by the level. I don't know why, something about straight up platforming just really gets to me. The level itself is very polished, and has a lot of platforming. So bring your A game. For a 1st level, I'd say Yarbone is doing pretty dang good! - Whaaaaale

So you think your hardcore? Great, now prove it! Yarbone has put together a tough, well developed platformer that despite it's difficulty, never seems frustrating. The level is rounded out with a good material selection and a few clever puzzles. This is a solid package that felt really fun to play. - OCK

Treetop Escape - Linque/Sir_Linque - Thread (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/http//www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6237)
Description:
"I've finally released my first LBP non-beta level, called Treetop Escape! I've no idea how many hours I've spent on the level, but it's most probably closer to 100 hours than 50. I hope you enjoy it if you decide to take it for a ride!" - Linque
Our Thoughts:
Wow... Amazing... Incredible... These are just a few of the words I can use to describe this level. The level takes you for a spin for your skills. This level has about 6-7 hidden spots you can discover, these spots amp up the difficulty but are well worth it. I, myself, loved the level so much I played it about 5-6 times in a row. The feeling of being 1st place in this level is incredible. This level deserves to be on the spotlight. Try it out yourself, and we even have a competition going on for it! - Whaaaaale

Timmy's Dream - Hexagohn/Hexagohn - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5833)
Description:
"I have published a new level called Timmy's Dream, you play as timmy who ventures beneath his bed and finds a fantastic dream world. It works best with 1-2 players. It features comprehensive dialog written in a bed time story rhyme style. About 99.9% of it is done in rhyme. The level has a dreamlike look to it, as seen in the screen shots. Although they really don't do it justice." - Hexagohn

Our Thoughts:
Remember when you were child and your parents took you to the circus? Remember sitting in wide-eyed wonder watching the magnificent show? Well, this level is that magnificent show. A circus dreamworld, brilliantly designed and executed with a new gameplay element around every corner. Fantastic writing rounds out what is one of the most original and exciting levels I have played in LBP. A truly unforgetable experience. - OCK

Imagine a level filled with bright colors, rhyming dialog, and some really fun platforming. What do you get? You get this fantastic level, why fantastic you ask? Well, one reason is that it will probably have you smiling throughout the whole thing, it's truly something magical, and you won't regret it.
Warning though, this level may take you back to your good old days as a young one... - Whaaaaale

I loved this really imaginative and original level. The rhymes really made it just that more enjoyable as they had me smiling between the sections of nicely executed platforming sections. Highly recommended if you're looking for something different. - Chaz'oSulls

From the very start where you grab your teddy bear and descend into the unknown, you know this level is going to be great. Throughout the level you must perform various circus tasks, from trapeze to being shot out of a cannon. The whole level is accompanied by rhyming dialogue which must have had a whole lot of thought put into it. You're missing out if you choose not to play this level. - BassDeluxe

Mulberry Woods - mrsupercomputer/mrsupercomputer - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5872)
Description:
"Crazed lumberjacks have constructed a sawmill and are cutting down all the trees! Journey to the mill, shut it down, and save Mulberry Woods!" - mrsupercomputer

Our Thoughts:
A well thought out level full of custom content that was made with a lot of TLC. From the lumberjacks to the bulldozer to the eagle to the waterfall, everything is super polished. There are brilliant little touches like wood chips flying out of the saw mill and the gentle motion of water in the river that really show how much the creator cared about his level. This is a must play! - OCK

Visually, definetly one of the best levels out there for me. This is a perfect example of creating an original theme and then letting evolve into such a grand level. The platforming of course is also top notch with a real nice "chase" sequence at the end. Great work, keep it up. - Chaz'oSulls

I, for one, loved every second of it! Mulberry Woods has amazing detail. There is a lot of custom content here, and he gives most of it away! But, you gotta find it first Not only does mrsupercomputer have a great eye for detail, but the platforming is not far from it. A must play indeed! - Whaaaaale

The Quest of the Great Pyramid - Takelow/Takelow - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5847)
Description:
"I would like to present you my last level. It taken to me a lot of hours to finish him and i greatly appreciate to have some comments about it.

Let's me introduce the level:
Your Sackboy, a famous archaeologist, is about to found the Great Treasure of Egypt?
But he understand that he will never cross the Grand Chamber of Statues without the Gods help.

You must travel across Egypt to find the Gods temples and finally obtain the fabulous treasure of ancient Egypt!" - Takelow
Our Thoughts:
Beautiful, stunning, splendid, gorgeous. All of these are fitting descriptions for what is probably the most visually impressive level I have played in LBP. I have yet to see a level with this much custom content and with so much detail. Along your travels you will encounter a moving tornado, statues of the gods, perfectly made sand dunes and an amazing Sphinx just to name a few. This level is truly a work of art. - OCK

This level manages to acheive a sense of scale that many others can't acheive. The Egyptian theme is pulled of flawlessly and even the treks through the masses of sand were highly enjoyable. There were a little too many flaws in gameplay for my liking but they're easily overlooked. - Chaz'oSulls

What can I say? This level is absolutely brilliant, the sand dunes look almost real! This level... Dare I say it?! Is probably the most polished level I have yet to see, and I am not exaggerating. The pyramids, the statues. It's amazing! If you want some sort of inspiration, you'll find it here. - Whaaaaale
Color of Sound - Takelow/Takelow - Thread (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/http//www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6067)
Description:
"The level take place in a world called "Musicolor". It was a peacefull world, where sounds and colors (represented by alived stars) lived in harmony. But the creator became a little bit crazy and started to capture colors (stars). At the start, you will found a world that is far closer to music than colour. The aim of your sackboy is here to deliver the colours and restore the harmony in this world.

The level was initially designed for ONE PLAYER. But it is playable in multi.
There is a lot of custom content in this level. And big ones. Would you see a living giant piano, a giant littlebigStratocaster and more?" - Takelow
Our Thoughts:
If we could peer into the mind of Miles Davis then it would probably look like this. A well designed journey dedicated to music with lots of eye candy. The amount of custom content here is staggering. Takelow clearly crafted all of his instruments with a lot of time and care and it really shows. Overall one of the most visually stimulating levels I have played in LBP. - OCK

This is without a doubt the most visually impressive level I have seen as of yet. Add to that great platforming, and a ton of secrets, and you have a great level. - BassDeluxe

Space Opera - Takelow/Takelow - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6386)
Description:
"In this level, your sackboy had been called by the government to participate to the LEWIS program. LEWIS mean ?Lbp Expension into the Whole Interstellar Universe?.

After a short test in order to verify you are the good guy, your mission will be to travel on different planets and promote LBP.

I constructed this level mainly as a contemplative one and I think it may divide players from this point of view. The level is more for the eyes than for the challenge.
There is a lot of custom content and some little surprises in it!" - Takelow
Our Thoughts:
This level is simply outstanding. Takelow has created a wonderful world of spaceships, asteroids, aliens and so much more that will keep you entertained from beginning to end. The amount of polish here is second to none. As always, Takelow has created a plethora of custom creations all of which are beautiful to behold. There are more then a few moments that will make you say "wow!" and when you get to the part with ET it should make you feel lile a child again. This is one of my top 10 favorite levels in LBP at the moment. Amzing work once again Takelow! - OCK

This level is truly amazing. You have done it once again Takelow, the way he implemented the random asteroids flying around, the lighting, the gas to make it look real spacey. It just is outstanding. Very well done once again Takelow! I can tell you take a lot of time and effort in your levels, and it definately shows. Keep up the great work! - Whaaaaale

The Legion - OCK/OCK - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6025)
Description:
"Here it is. 60+ hours of hard work and 5 weeks later I present you with my second level. After finishing Out of Africa there were immediately three themes I wanted to work around for my next level: night, fantasy and rain. Below I have once again provided extensive notes on all aspects of my level which I hope you will take the time to read through. This level is a direct opposite to OOA in every way: day vs night, realism vs fantasy, wood vs metal/stone, horizontal vs all over the map lol. So for those who played/hearted/enjoyed OOA I sincerely hope you find this level to be just as good, if not better. Please note the level was intended for SINGLE PLAYER!!!" - OCK

Our Thoughts:
Congratulations on your second spotlight, OCK. This level has tons and tons of imagination and it's all strung together very smoothly. Lots of cool, original enemies that have non-conventional attack methods. As OCK likes to show off, this level is 100% custom content which is pretty comendable considering how big the level is. The dialouge really gave the level more flavour and it drove the level along nicely so props there too. - Chaz'oSulls

OCK was wrong when he said this level is a direct opposite to OOA. Like that level, The Legion, too, is a masterpiece. The level has not one, but two bosses, great platforming, and a story to boot. I'd be a fool not to spotlight this. - BassDeluxe

The Legion, has one of the most epic stories I have yet to overcome. The way OCK implemented the layers in this level is outstanding, this level has great platforming, tons of hidden goodies, and not one, but TWO boss battles. Definately Spotlight material right here folks. - Whaaaaale

Operation Beaver Freedom - muckypops/muckypops - Thread (http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/http//www.lbpcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5867)
Our Thoughts:
Operation Beaver Freedom is one of the best polished levels I have yet to overcome, the level takes place underground, where you will try to find the evil Lord Tarantula. This level has great platforming, perfect for both hardcore and relaxing players. And the ending will take you for a twist. - Whaaaaale
Media:84A3V0LTHKM
Machinima Jungle - Laekroth/Laekroth - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5831)
Description:
"The level is best described as an interactive chain reaction. A big wheel rolls through the level taking the players inside with it on its journey. Some parts of the trip need player interaction in order to advance.

I think it contains concepts that I have not yet seen in any LBP level before and I hope this level will inspire other creators to new ideas. I've spent alot of time creating this level, finetuning it and trying to make it run smoothly." - Laekroth
Our Thoughts:
A vehicle-based level that is executed to perfection. There are design elements going on here that I promise you have not seen before. One of the things I liked most about the level was that there are portions whene your character is on foot which I have not seen done for this type of level before. This is one of the top 3 vehicle levels I have played in LBP and everyone should check it out. - OCK
Aww Pee Gee - Grethiwha/Grethiwha - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6379)
Description:
"You start off entering a town, but to move on from the town, you have to perform a series of tasks for the villagers. It's dumbed down to a LittleBigPlanet scale, but it's something I've never seen anyone else do in the game.

Another unique thing I've added is houses - houses that you can walk by or enter if you choose. You can probably figure out how I've done it pretty easily, but it's nonetheless another thing I haven't seen before in other peoples levels.
Once you've made your way out of the town, there's a dungeon, followed by a boss at the end. So it's a full level, and there's lots of variety." - Grethiwha
Our Thoughts:
This level introduces a nice new concept to LBP: RPG. Not in the turn-based action sense that comes to mind, but in the sense that you go to a town and perform tasks in the town(all in the same area), and then you get to go dungeon-crawling. It takes me back to the Zelda days, but with platforming. - BassDeluxe

The Collector's Dilemma - neonrage0/neonrage0 - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=6008)
Description:
"The first of the series starts you off infront of the Collector's lair.

The story kicks off, it's impressive in some parts, but others are lame." - neonrage0
Our Thoughts:
The author says some parts are lame(), but I'm going to have to disagree. This level seems to me like it takes all the best parts of levels, both MM levels and Community levels, and mixes them together. The beginning is reminiscent of The Wilderness, while the middle reminds me of the Azure Palace. Needless to say, it's pretty awesome. - BassDeluxe
Tomb of Light - Marynor/Marynor - Thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=5825)
Description:
"I just wanted to share my creation with you, called "Tomb of Light" (username: Marynor). I spent a lot of hours creating this level, and plan to further extend it when I have the time." - Marynor

Our Thoughts:
This level could be one of the best I've come across yet. It blends puzzles and platforming together very well, and there's even an underwater part in it. Definitely worth a play. - BassDeluxe

Congratulations to all of you, you all deserve it. I think there are some really great levels here and I hope this Spotlight will encourage other forum members to check out some of these levels that have not been getting too much attention. I would also like to give a special congratulations to Takelow for being the first forum member to have 3 levels -that are not part of a series - featured in the same Spotlight. That is quite an achievement my friend, keep up the great work!

I am also honored to have been chosen for a second Spotlight and it makes me feel like all the hard work that went into The Legion was worth it

I thought there were more plays...

Nevertheless, i continue to give a maximum of feedbacks to others creators of the forum, hoping they will do the same in return...
