How would I make Hologram that doesn't get pulled by player

Archive: 7 posts

I am trying to make a level and am in the middle of making a zipline type thing. I have made it so that you dont actually grab the zipline cord type stuff but a piece of hologram that then shoots to the end of the zipline. My problem is that I cannot figure out how to make it so that the hologram doesn't get dragged down when the player jumps on it and grabs it. What happens right now is the player will grab it, but then the hologram gets dragged by the player to the floor.2011-12-05 18:21:00

Holograms themselves don't have any weight, so they can float on their own, until you grapple them. (I'm assuming you made the hologram grabbable using a material tweaker).

I'd suggest using an object gravity tweaker in order to make the hologram not fall down when it is pulled. Add the gravity tweaker to the hologram, and change the dampening to a really high number (depending on how you have the hologram move to the end of the zipline, even 100% dampening might work, but I'm not certain).

That should keep the hologram from being pulled down by the player

Alternatively, there's a glitched hologram material kicking around which collides with objects and the like (like any normal material), but does not collide with sackboy (like hologram normally doesn't). I haven't played with it too much, but if I'm not mistaken, its physics will allow it to behave like a normal object when sackboy is pulling on it. You would still probably have to use a gravity tweaker with dampening, however.2011-12-05 18:52:00

MananTheMoon's suggestion dd not work. How I have it set up is that Sackboy will grab the hologram, triggering a follower to a tag that i set up at the end of the zipline. While he is not grabbing, it is set to another followerer that returns it to its original spot. I also tried using a piston, but that didn't work either. I would also prefer to not use a glitch to accomplish this.2011-12-05 19:20:00

Are you using the pistons in combination with the followers? Because if you use pistons, you should not need any followers, and can do the entire thing with pistons alone.

I would personally try doing it the following way. Get rid of the followers and attach a piston from wherever the zip line is supposed to end, to the hologram, and adjust the minimum/maximum values of the piston according to what you want. Then, connect the grab switch from the Hologram to the piston. On the piston, change the input setting to "Forward/Backward". Make sure the Piston is stiff. You might have to invert the output of the piston if the holo moves to the end of the zipline before it is grabbed.

If this doesn't work, try attaching the piston to a small material (that isn't hologram), and then perhaps glue your hologram to that material.

Hopefully this will work.

I have already tried that, what happens then is the sacbot/sackboys arms get streched all the way out, an he falls to the floor anyways... I hate hologram. But no, I am not doing both at the same time.2011-12-05 20:44:00

If you don't want to use glitches, you probably won't be able to get away with using Hologram. Try a very small sponge.2011-12-05 22:00:00
