1 layer treds
Archive: 11 posts
Ello Ive been trying to make 1 layer treds but my attempts have all failed Ive tried strings and winchs and thin layers with bolts. Im not sure what Im doing wrong thou =( | 2011-12-05 06:01:00 Author: XxHAMADEHxX Posts: 113 |
One of my friends, David0, made a pretty solid 1-layer tread concept back in the beta. If I remember correctly it involved string and cardboard ovals with indentations in both ends. I'll try to get him to comment in here | 2011-12-05 10:09:00 Author: Slaeden-Bob Posts: 605 |
*Looks for memory...* 2 ovals of cardboard or other light material. one thick layer on top of a thin layer. Add a material changer set to indestructible to both. The thin layer should have a rectangle cut out of each side originating from the center (or equator if you think of it like a globe). copy this object and attach string from the point within one rectangle to the other. Copy this object and repeat the process of joining them. When its long enough, hang it over a light matter circles (your tracks frames) and connect the two hanging ends. Change the circles to another light material. The result is strong but flexible single layer tracks Regards Dave | 2011-12-05 17:41:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma Posts: 1414 |
Looks like you've got the help you need, but I thought I'd toss another idea into the mix just for fun. You could use sublayers, Theck + Thack fit into one regular layer. I know a few people have sublayer giveaways from LBP1 that you can find in a search. You can also get them from this tutorial level of mine, they're at the end. http://lbp.me/v/3mnww9 | 2011-12-05 22:37:00 Author: Pookachoo Posts: 838 |
2 ovals of cardboard or other light material. one thick layer on top of a thin layer. Didn't you also make a version with just a single thick layer? Or did that perhaps become too unstable? You could use sublayers, Theck + Thack fit into one regular layer. That is a VERY good suggestion! I didn't even think of that | 2011-12-06 09:36:00 Author: Slaeden-Bob Posts: 605 |
Thought I'd just throw another version into the mix. This is one I created way back in LBP1, while it lacks aesthetics and probably isn't the most thermo friendly design, it's incredibly simple to create and alter as well as being quite strong. Drag a small 1x1 circle to get the 2x1 shape shown, then simply connect them (leaving 1 small grid space between them) with a non-stiff rod set to a length of 0.0. make sure to connect the rods on 45? angles as shown. http://mypics.site11.com/1LlayerTread.gif Heavy materials like stone or metal work best for this design. | 2011-12-06 10:43:00 Author: SR20DETDOG Posts: 2431 |
Thanks for your help guys =D I really appreciate it but I have another problem now. My treds keep bouncing and I dont know what to do does anyone know why this is? | 2011-12-08 05:53:00 Author: XxHAMADEHxX Posts: 113 |
Thanks for your help guys =D I really appreciate it but I have another problem now. My treds keep bouncing and I dont know what to do does anyone know why this is? its the physics engine, simple solution is to adjust thr weight until you find a leel when that stops | 2011-12-08 09:11:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma Posts: 1414 |
Thx bro I fixed the problem by making the treds bigger | 2011-12-27 03:10:00 Author: XxHAMADEHxX Posts: 113 |
Thx bro I fixed the problem by making the treds bigger you probably already know this, but the material used for the treads also helps prevent bouncing. for example, metal is much more dense than cardboard and will bounce far less. also, i did manage to create treads which are 1 thin and one thick layer using oval shaped half link tracks with bolts connecting them. | 2011-12-27 06:37:00 Author: horwitzer Posts: 255 |
Thanks bro I actually found this out today. I was making this weird APC and the treds were rubber and the body was metal. I end up having to change the body to cardboard and the treds to metal XD | 2011-12-29 04:18:00 Author: XxHAMADEHxX Posts: 113 |
