Making walls and floor.
Archive: 11 posts
I know some thinks I should go run tuts, but I did. I ran through all tuts and was starting to make my own level. I wanted to make some undergrund, so floor was stone and background was other sort of stone so they didnt look similar. Pardon my bad english for this im saying now: There are 3 width settings. Actually 4, since you can make a super slim wall. I want to make a wall where there can be detals and some carving in, but that requires Sackboy can only move to widths. If I make the wall paper thin, I can make carvings or details in it? Uhm I saw a tut about something called custom backgroudns... I think thats what I need.... How do I do this? I do I enter the ability? Or do I unlock it later in the game? | 2011-12-04 21:44:00 Author: Unknown User |
As you pointed out you get 7 layers, 3 thick 4 thin, in which to build. 'Custom backgrounds' are only possible through use of a glitch: Here's a amazing tutorial by Mr. Comphermc, one of the best logicians in lbp http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ij--bJxovSk it covers the layer glitches in depth, he has also got some other nifty tutorials covering all kinds of lbp related goodies Regards Dave | 2011-12-05 01:19:00 Author: ForgottenEnigma Posts: 1414 |
So its not possible to make detailed backgrounds like in campaign withouth doing a glitch? | 2011-12-05 01:42:00 Author: Unknown User |
So its not possible to make detailed backgrounds like in campaign withouth doing a glitch? not if you want them in the far distance, no. just do as the poster above has suggested. you will also need to go to Comphermc's earth to collect the glitch itself. if you don't want to use the glitch you can also use the camera. there are settings on the camera that create depth of field effects. play around with those first, they may be all you need | 2011-12-05 11:00:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
For a first level, Custom Backgrounds might be a bit more effort than it's worth. Because it's technically a glitch, it takes a bit of getting used to, and doesn't necessarily work as intuitively as one would expect. As GribbleGrunger suggested, the camera angle changes might be a good place to start. Another possible solution is to limit the number of layers a player can walk on, if your level allows for it. For example, if you started the background behind the second thick layer, then you would technically have 3 layers to work with for making your background (two thin layers, and one thick layer). Of course, if you do this, then the players can only switch between 2 planes instead of 3, because you are using the third plane for your background. If that works well with the challenges for your level, it might be the simplest option. | 2011-12-05 16:21:00 Author: MananTheMoon Posts: 11 |
I don't know if this will help, but you might get some use out of sublayers (glitch layers that fit within the normal layer). Sometimes I use sublayers to create a textured effect. I have a little tutorial if you're interested: http://lbp.me/v/3mnww9 And and ingame tutorial on the 3D glitch for custom backgrounds (available in English and Spanish, more languages soon): http://lbp.me/v/0b6hcn | 2011-12-05 22:45:00 Author: Pookachoo Posts: 838 |
Depending on the lighting you might also get away with simply taking a picture of a multilayer carving and sticking that on a single layer backwall. | 2011-12-06 12:36:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |
You need the Background glitch like others have suggested, I canno't remember but I think it was Backscratch that started it. Maybe you can go check out his level and see if he has them as prizes. Or, check out a tutorial to make your own; there's one on this forum under this link https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=46908-LittleBigPlanet-2-Tutorials-and-Games Hope this helps even though I think that others have suggested it already. it sounds like you should use the theck sublayer to me, rather than the background glitch. theck material sits just in fornt of the thin layers (except for the very front one) and sackboy can walk straight past it like a normal thin material wall. it is much easier to use than the background glitch for people who havent spent lots of time practicing, and can add wonderful detail to levels. | 2011-12-06 18:42:00 Author: Skalio- Posts: 920 |
Correct me if wrong, but he might just be talking about the proper choosable backgrounds, not the backgroung layer glitch, since there are no background layers in campaign/story. | 2011-12-06 19:33:00 Author: Denim360 Posts: 482 |
If you're looking for the backgrounds from campaign, you can find them in the Tools Bag on their own page. Every time you clear a world in campaign, you'll unlock that world's background to use. | 2011-12-06 20:32:00 Author: Blue Helmet Posts: 306 |
