Level Graveyard

I'm starting to realize I have about a dozen levels that will probably never get finished. I thought it might be a fun idea for us to share our ideas, and maybe even get inspiration to give our old unfinished levels another go. Here's a few of mine:

Grandpa's Quest - The player starts out in grandpa's house, who tells you a story of how things were back in his day. He sends the player on a trip through his memories. The player has to simply walk to the store, grab a gallon of milk, and make it back home. But grandpa loves to exaggerate his stories, of course. Everything starts out normal but slowly devolves into a kind of psychadelic candy-land as you make your trek (over a mile, uphill, through the snow, broken glass, etc.) to the store and back. Yeah.

Donut Holes - This level was kinda weird, and took inspiration from one of my published levels. Basically you start off on a high-up platform, you get into a donut (nothing weird about that), and descend through increasingly difficult obstacles. I had it set up into 'courses' (easy, medium, hard) that rewarded you accordingly for each progressive level you completed. It was fun, but I ran out of ideas and eventually gave up.

Nintendo Music Gallery - Pretty self explanatory. I have made about 10 or so Nintendo songs and set up a decent arcade-themed gallery, but never felt the quality was quite good enough to release.

Infinite Suicide - I would really love to finish this one. Basically each room you spawn in can only be conquered by killing yourself somehow. The key was figuring out what in the room could kill you, through various puzzles and other mechanics. I had 5 or 6 rooms for this one before I realized the player could totally cheat at any time by using the Popit. I could never figure out if this could be disabled, so I again let the level slide away.

Spy Games - I barely even started this one, but I like the premise. You start off in a briefing room with other spies, listening to a mysterious figure on a TV screen giving you a mission. You go outside, walk around and explore the ol' Spy Base a bit, and then you get in an invisible jet and take off. I wanted this level to be kinda a stealth thing, where you have to sneak up on bad guys, plant hidden bombs, all that kind of spy-ish stuff. But frankly I'm not that great of a level designer and didn't even know where to begin outside the initial conference room

Im the same where I start levels then leave them and sometimes never return, I tend to lose interest when I run out of ideas.2011-12-02 21:11:00

I have one that's maybe 3/4 finished with a tentative title of "Savage Planet". It's loosely based around the Spaceman Spiff character from Calvin and Hobbes. I really hate leaving things unfinished, but at this point I'm not sure who I'd be finishing it for or whether it's even worth investing any more time in.

The level starts with some black and white sub-titled cut scenes showing our intrepid hero's little red saucer being pursued by the evil scum beings. As the color fades in things start moving and you obtain control of the saucer for a little on-rails/side-scrolling shooter where you need to destroy asteroids in your path with the saucer's twin blasters. If you aren't playing alone the other players are given target cross hairs and can try help clear the way and rack up points. Once you've traversed a fixed distance another black and white cut scene shows you being shot down and we fade to black.

Now the platforming section begins starting with a scene showing the crashed saucer amid the desolate canyons of an alien world (I'm very happy with the extra layer work here). You have a paintinator and need to shoot some rock-formations to progress into a short cavern section where you need to fend off large alien wasps and destroy their hives.

You exit the cavern at a boiling lake and need to navigate past hungry pink Pterosaurs and spitting frog-fish inside bubbles that float up from the boiling lake. It's at this point that I got distracted with the whole bubble thing and made my Bubble Ghost HD level (which no one appears able to finish) and never got back to this one.

Anyway, that's as far as I got. There would certainly have to be more dino-like creatures, but I didn't plan out the rest of the level. I really like some parts...but others I'm not so happy with...but it's all so complicated I dread tearing into it after so much time has passed.

* I like the Grandpa's Quest one...could be really amusing.

I don't run out of ideas, I run out of time.

To make the levels I'd like to make - Jumper Evolution, Explorers II - Rescue, Explorers III - Rivalry, The Dream Catcher series (About 5 levels), and a really fun Move level.

Those alone would probably take me 2 years.

Anyway, @ the OP, I like the suicides level, sounds really unique and fun.

I have a few levels that are going unworked upon, but now I do that on purpose. I find it hard to work on a single project for a long stretch of time. During the course of time that it took me to remake A Nucleotrosity, I remade two other LBP 1 levels and made a small minigame.2011-12-02 22:32:00

I had an idea for a level called "The Nuclearizer" and it would be a parody/spinoff of nuclearfish's usual spinning minigames I may return to lbp1 to create this, but it's a long way off from my current levels2011-12-03 04:11:00

I've got one level in the works at the moment.

It was my first ever level in Little Big Planet... and it was pretty awful But, I was just experimenting back then. I vowed to bring it up to scratch in LBP2 and I have... pretty much. The level's almost completely finished... except for the boss fight. I left it... and came back to it recently. I know what I want to do, but I think it may just be a little hard for me... Either way, hopefully it will be finished by the end of the year...

It's called Gloomy Glacier, in my opinion, a fun little platformer filled with a few fun secrets to find

My moon on my old profile had 70 levels on it. I only had 2 of them published. Most of them were about 30-second long level beginnings I had started but abandoned. 5 or 6 of them were actually finished, but they were very old so I unpublished them.

Now who wants me to go in-depth about each and every one of them?!

I have so many; none of which are published. I'll post descriptions and pictures later to show off my hidden genius. 2011-12-09 02:55:00

I get bored of making my levels, so I have a few which are only just started:

The Adventures of Super Cat!
Help Super Cat infiltrate the evil robot spaceship to stop the onslaught on your home.

Morris the Hobo!
The evil (and homeless) Fire Elemental, Morris, has taken over the home of four heroes. Use Tom's sword, Tim's wits, Ted's strength and Ned's teleportation to evict him.

Alone.
You're alone in a mysterious and derelict facility with no memory. Listen to the audio diaries of Edmund, the scientist, Lucas, the politician, and Mark, the soldier, to see what happened.
Who are you?
Where is your family?
Who were you fighting?

Hehehehe.
You find an odd castle- split right down the middle. Half is old, has is new.
You find an odd king in the old side- he's only half a king.
The other half lives on the other side, and has stolen the princess!
Go over there and save her!

Yes.

Sack Quiz!

You have been invited to a quiz show along 1-3 other invitees. After arriving you are seated to chairs on metallic posts (which are then raised high above the floor level), and the game begins. Above you, there is a huge spinning tank full of different-colored question balls, each color meaning a certain topic (e.g Common Knowledge, LBP2 Trivia, Weird Facts, etcetc). On each player's turn, a ball will drop into the holder, which automatically reads the question to you. If you answer correctly, you will remain unscathed, and the question ball is unceremoniously chucked away by the rotating arm.

But.. if you go wrong - you will be punished by lowering your seat just a little bit. One time slip won't hurt you.. but if you go wrong, say, 10 times, you will reach the ground, and lose the game.

After either all other players have lost (or you have ran out of questions), the one with the highest position wins - there is only an *one* winner.

------

So far, the entry room is done (players will spawn here, set different options like the Comrade Mode with no scorekeeping, and wait until the logic has finished initializing and some internal consistency checks), and some of the physical mechanisms (chairs, ball keeper) - but no quiz logic whatsoever.

Camera Obscura

You have been (again? ) invited to a mystery test, organized by Orwellian Labs, and ran by your friendly professor OrwellianStuff. The test is intended to test your mental ability to cope and survive in strange and confusing situations (such as with what OrwellianStuff causes by ostensibly disappearing into thin air). The test is held in a old, grimy, dark industrial building, with several gizmos and gadgets specifically modified for this test.

------

Intro cinematic and first puzzle done, but nothing else so far. The first puzzle is the most complicated part - you need to send a test code using a very old SackType II telesignaling machine.. one of the most obscure models in the existence, due to its extremely confusing interface.

I was once thinking about making a level that involved controlling something similar to the meanie infection boss from the story. It could change forms to fit different situations. Then that guy with the Perfect Cell level pulled it off and got MM Picked. 0.02011-12-11 20:44:00

Well my old moon was full before I lost everything a few days ago so here is some of my lost levels.

Paintball island: A metroidvania style level with five different areas. Each area would have 20 targets that you have to shoot to unlock the end. Sometimes you would have to shoot a certain number of them to unlock doors to other areas. After you shoot all a hundred targets you get into a final area with and end boss. The areas were planed to be grasslands, factory, desert, water and clouds/sky.

Virus hunter: A level where you were sent into a beta version of a virtual world to kill all the viruses. You would teleport from screen to screen with each screen being a different environment. The first few screens would have virus enemies and then after that you encounter a boss on each screen. I would like to see this one made by anyone else but I don't have the skill to make it good.

If sacks came from eggs or a sack in a dragon egg: Never got past the idea in my head stage but it's just a basic platformer where you climb up through an egg.

A well rounded puzzler: A move puzzler where you are a sackboy/girl trapped in a ball. All the levels would be down hill and you use the move to draw lines to roll one. You would have sticky, slippy and normal lands. You'd need to complete a different objective in each level depending on the world you're in. The enemies would be possessed trees and birds and plants and rocks. They would be possessed by the evil demon who trapped you in this ball because of you stealing his magic paintbrush. I kind of took that from epic Micky.

I could go on and on but I'll leave it there.

Arcade quest

This was a level I really wanted to do,It was first a beat em up idea based in high school; then I transferred it over to a arcade.
After that,I wanted to change it into a rpg,With an isometric camera and all that jazz.
The area was complete, but,There were tons of problems:

-the A.I for the party members kept acting up.
-The quest were highly boring(to combat it I switched to a linear mission type of style but it didnt work)
-Flavor text(I'm horrible at writing a story.)
-Lack of motivation.
Thing is ,Arcade quest is cancelled on lbp2,and over the summer,I felt that the characters and atmosphere would be interesting for a real game.
So,it's gonna be a flash game instead.

Here are some of mine:

LittleBigQuiz: A fairly old level, and basicly a competative quiz game.

Jungle Adventure: A jungle platformer, but the main idea is that there are several alternative paths you can take.

Level Explorers (Training): A very atmosphetic level where the way forward is completly hidden and there is no help at all... build to train 'level escaping' skills.

Ill post more tomorrow, I am too tired to remember any now.

Lol. I had a thread exactly like this, but it was made after yours. I thought I had something original. I SERIOUSLY THOUGHT THAT.
Anyway, I have some unfinished levels documented in it. https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=70807-Failed-Creations-Levels

I have two new, fully completed levels on my moon which are ready to publish, plus a whole "album" worth of music.

I will probably never publish any of it though, since the LBP community is full of ungrateful, unappreciative little ****s who don't deserve to play my stuff which I pour blood, sweat and tears into making, only for a horde of pre-pubescent brats to come along and tell me that I suck because they kept dying or coudn't figure out what to do.

Screw the lot of 'em. I create only for my own personal entertainment these days.

StarFire

It was a top down retro survival level. It had singleplayer, co-op, and multiplayer(versus). I don't think it died over time I was making progress but then the logic wouldn't work so I raged and deleted it, but I plan on bringing it back.

I have an entire binder full of level sketches, ideas, and concepts, but I'll share a few...

One of my first-ever ideas was a survival challenge for LBP1 called "Trash Talk" where Sackboy had to use a jetpack and swing bags of trash with different lethalized elements into specified canisters.

Since several of my level ideas come from Contest Theme Inspirations, one of mine was going to be called "Bot Breakout" where you had to guide Sackbots throughout a laboratory and use each bot's special abilities to save all of them, all while the labratory was crumbling.

Another one of my ideas was a puzzle-platformer for three players specifically called "Triad Island" where the three players had to traverse obstacles and solve puzzles with limited checkpoints. It was designed to be fairly difficult...

Well..that's my three cents...I'm still working on a ton of ideas, so I'll just leave those up to chance

Any level I haven't published is dead.
You'd need all the Walmarts in the world to stuff all of my trashed ideas in.
