Second Hand City

Archive: 5 posts

Hey all,

This was a series I made for lbpc1 (The no floor platformer) but at the time it was impossile to complete to due the difficulty level. I have gone through the series making numerous improvments and the feedack seems to be good. I was told it would be a good idea to advertise so other can enoy the series. So here it is

Altogther there is three parts but level links can be used to move between them... alternatively heres the links

Second Hand City: http://lbp.me/v/5rm70x
Merrily down the stream: http://lbp.me/v/3wz9jy
The Scrap King: http://lbp.me/v/3wz9cs

Challenge: finish all three levels without using any shortcuts (the way it was initially built)

Dave

I'm playing it right now and quite fondly remember playing this level back in LBPC1. Fantastic. I love(d) all the details and variety in gameplay. There are so many "genius" moments to count. The design of the level(s) is superb. I have to argue a point with you though. To say the first version was impossible to complete is inaccurate. I remember completing it. sure it was a challenge, but that made it fun. I don't recall, did the one for the competition have level links? Anyway I love the level and you still have one of the best lines in a boss fight, "sure, but can you survive laser beams..with bear traps?" ha ha, I love it! and I still love those bear traps. I kept dying on them just to see them work. Awesome stuff!2011-12-02 21:08:00

ok, maybe I was slightly harsh stating it was impossible... but the numbers that got to level 2 were severly reduced and at the time I was locked into the contest and couldn't adapt the difficulty. Also the competition version did have level links as parts 2 and 3 were hidden as sub levels, these have been opened up to allow players to tackle the series in multiple attempts rather than playing through parts twice.

That aside, glad you liked the series and the boss

I actually didn't think this was overly hard. I did die a lot but the sections are so small that it never really mattered. Part two was probably the most frustrating swinging between the two levers to move the block. It wasn't too annoying but had a definitely different feel to the rest of the level much slower and the gap between the spawn points was longer.

In regards to difficulty the second part starts a little misleadingly. From the first part you are taught to grab onto the junk as it floats past. but the second opens with the junk floating downwards and it kills you. Maybe something else in the lava would help pointing this out.

The end boss is great and I like the banter the electric pulses were great and I liked the concept of the lasers, but though that the floor could also light up before a blast. There is also a potential opportunity to make the delay between blasts longer because there is very little time to react to when the are firing. Now as for the bear traps... fantastic. I died trying to work out what they were built from.

Great level, and a shame I missed it during the contest!

Hey there cool level i always like a level that has some style to it and this is one of them.

I did find it rather hard though and a little frustrating at times but it was still a great looking level and fun to play.
