Help! I keep freezing.

Archive: 5 posts

I just started making a new level. It was supposed to become a top-down city. But whenever I try to rewind in that level, my whole ps3 freezes. Not sure if it's because of something I made in it.

So far, what's in it:

-A car. There's quite some logic in there, but I have practically the same car in different level and that one works fine.

-A floor. I made it to resemble bricks. What I did was taking the granite wall materials, and making a long strip, one medium grid wide, a whole level high. Place 2 of those next to each other, and use the UV tool to move the texture of 1 of em up half a granite brick. Then place many many of those double strips next to each other to cover the whole level.

-A river with bridges. It's really just a couple of gaps in the floor, then using the 3d glitch to make walls and water (jelly painted blue, to look like water).

It didn't start freezing me till I had all 3.
Anyone any idea what's causing it?

Update Edit: I saved the car as an object, deleted it, then placed a new one (the one i just saved) and I stopped freezing.
So yeah, problem solved, but I'm still wondering what caused it.

hey there, I see that your in a "pickle" with your level. Now I dont know the excact reason/solution to this problem here, but I'l give some logical theories I thought of.
But first, this problem is quite common and it can be resolved easily. My friend and I made this over- complexed level, and our game diverged repetivily and rarely our PS3 froze for a short period of time... The reason?

1) Your level may be complex in areas (To many items cluttered together), to fix this: Take out all the uneeded items in your level, try antigravity to keep your items in plaace, or space out your objects so the complexity level will shorten.

2) It may be the logic complexity (fairly rare), to fix this: simplify your logics, or add them into microchips (DO NOT CLUSTER THEM ALL ON A OBJECT"S SURFACE)

3) If you used a complex sort of glitch it may interfer with your gaming (monitor looks glitchy).

I hope that helped a bit, this is from my own theories, but I would give it a try if I were you. If you have any questions just ask..

Don't think it's any of those things. The complexity is spread out over the whole level (it's really just a floor and a car, and the car isn't that complicated). My thermo is still practically empty.
The only glitch I used (as far as I know) is the 3d glitch. And that's hardly a glitch anymore.

But as I said in my edit, I fixed it somehow.
You can add me as a friend and come take a look if you want. There's not much to see yet though.

Well thats good that you fixed it! It may have just been some akward disfiguration thats all, but hopefully it does not bother you and your ps3 again ^^

It may had been the "original" car which was causing the trouble. Esspecially if you fixed it when you replaced the car with a another copy of it, or it could of just been a akward coincedence. It would be much easier if I saw the actual level piece, but if it wasn't the complexity, it might of been a single object.

...And now my level is so broken that I can't even load it anymore (I just get a permanent white screen whenever I try to load either play or create mode). It must be the floor, I think, because the only thing I changed is adding rails for a train I was goin to make later. This effectively quadrupled the amount of pieces the floor was made of. Because the rails split the strips of granite wall in 2, you see, and I had 4 lines of rails covering most of the level.

So the problem was having a few hundred pieces glued together.
Good thing this happened before I made any actual progress!

But that means I have a different problem now:
I want the ground to look like bricks, and the only material looking like bricks is the granite wall. And that's waaay too big. I want small bricks.
