Running Actions in Reverse

Archive: 6 posts

For those of you that have played my level "F.T.P. - The Fun Transfer Protocol" (plug), you'll know that I've got some pretty complex switch contraptions running my machines offscreen.

I figure that I might be overcomplicating some of them, though. One thing that I haven't found real easy way to do, is having a series of actions happen, then once a certain objective is completed, having that series of actions run in reverse.

For example, lets say you're in a room with a 2 way switch. You pull the switch to the left and the ceiling opens up via two pistons. An elevator drops down and a door opens. A light comes on to signal its ready.

Now you push the switch back to the right. The light goes out, the door closes, the elevator rises, and the ceiling closes.

What's the best way to setup something like this, or something similar? It doesn't have to be this exact example, just anything with a series of actions that can be played in either direction as many times as you want.

I don't know if it will work, you can test it.

But have a series of magnetic key switches, all next to each other, in a vertical fashion. And have a piston holding up a magnet key. Have it so when you press the switch to the left, ( of course by having it set to "directional" )

The piston would move down, activating the switches which would be set to directional as well. One switch would be for the ceiling door. One for the light, and one for the elevator and the doors.

And once your down, you move the switch to the right, and the piston moves back up reversing everything. I don't know if it will work but you can try?

Whale to the rescue, once again. : )

Yeah, I think you're on to something there. I did something similar for F.T.P. and in a level I'm working on now, just didn't think about how I could use that to reverse it.

Thanks, buddy!

I GOT IT!!!

ok off of Whale's concept but still, Use the 3 way switch concept where you can have it be pulled off site, and there you go, when you enter the elevator, there is a motion switch, and that makes the 3-way go in the opposite direction thus reversing the motions, YAY i am smart, all you need to do is set up the one way and then use the 3-way switch and you are ready to go ^.^

Cheers!

All right, I think I understand what you're trying to say. As far as moving the 3-way switch, what's the best way to do that? Should I set up piston-blocks on each side of the switch?

Look on the last level of the Story
Just before you jump on the king and queens horses at the end.
Theres a 3-way switch with winches attatched to it that go from the sponge to the bottom edge of each side of the switch base.
