Craftworld Aleste - Some music

Archive: 14 posts

Hey there. Many of you are already in the know about the vertical shooter level I have been building over the past months. It is still far from finished but here is some of the custom music I'd like to share for your enjoyment.

Constructive criticism is of course greatly appreciated.

EDIT: updated with the track for the menu.
EDIT2: more music; title theme and area 2.

I am no music composer, but I do listen to LBP tracks just about every time I create. All the tracks here seem to be on theme and almost sound like they game from a Sega Genesis game, in short they are really good.

If I had to dig out a small nitpick, it would probably be the Boss Theme. While it sounds great, I think it could use another part as its shortness does bring a sense of repetitiveness. It could also heighten the emotion of a boss battle given these are usually the most intense parts of gaming.

But thats just my take on it

Ok, since you made me open the page again...
They're insanely good mate!
Just the very first notes of area 3 are a bit too happy, but the mood changes almost immediately

You are right and I hadn't thought about that yet. I intend on composing one or two more boss tunes and I will keep your advice in mind. Thanks for the compliment!

Thanks! I didn't mention the context of the tracks. I plan to add an atmosphere of "humanity striking back at the invaders" in area 3. Without giving too much away, it should have an optimistic feel to it. In contrast, area 4 is about loss and near total defeat as humanity is overrun. Area 5, the last zone, will be the Hollywood formula of the last desperate one-man attempt.

I think I have said too much already.

These tracks are amazing. I'm having trouble believing they're actually from LBP. Great job! Still can't wait to see the final product.2012-01-30 07:39:00

That's some insane 16-bit Sega feel songs.
Totally love them

Awesome music. It's easy to say the boss music sounds repetitive when you listen to it outside of the game, but I must say that the thought never crossed my mind while I was actually fighting a boss; there were too many bullets to worry about instead. 2012-01-30 13:00:00

In the context of the game (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jp5bARY5yxU).

By the way, I forgot to mention: I thought the menu music sounded a bit slow. Did you perhaps use the 50Hz version for that one?2012-01-30 13:33:00

Hah! I never knew you played the original!! I don't remember whether I played at 50 or 60 Hz. I found the tempo of most of the original songs too fast anyway. I had the melodies inspire me but other than that tried to make it my own thing.

I noticed you gave some your own spin, but the menu music just seemed exactly the same, apart from the speed. Of course, it's been decades since I played this, and my memory is probably not that good these days.

But anyway, nice work.

Edit: By the way, the load time on this thread is killing me. Maybe it would help if you added some spoiler tags around the embedded movies?

Added spoiler block. Here is the original menu of Aleste 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9GUrEnYjbg#t=3m42s).
