PS3 Help!

Archive: 11 posts

I turn on my PS3 Slim today and I get this message saying that my HDD is corrupted and that I need to restore it. I obviously click yes, can't exactly get worse, except that when it gets to 100%, it restarts and displays the same message, a cycle of restoration . I have a massive project, 100% of the story objects, all my other games, etc, on that hard drive, and it would be devastating for me to lose it, like, full year LBP hiatus devastating. Luckly I have a testers level published, which I can copy and work on, so at this point I just wanna not toss 300 dollars down the drain by having to buy a new PS3.

It has 160gb HDD, which I am fine with replacing as a last resort, but have no clue where to find one especially one that will fit.
Its a slim.
Anyways, if anyone has any PS3 knowledge, or knows whats wrong, or just knows a place where I can buy a new HDD/PS3 for cheap, please, any help is appreciated.

if you can access your hard drive in any way, try to save out the LBP files and any others you may want to keep.2011-11-20 00:31:00

I may have damaged all the files by trying to restore the HDD the first time, so Ill have to re-get every item and ace the levels. But Ill try that site, do I have to send in my PS3 or can they just send me the hard drive?2011-11-20 05:45:00

If it happens again, yes you must send in your PS3.

HDD wipes are extremely annoying. Glad you got your PS3 up and running again. I had mine go out like that once and the guys I sent it to got everything rolling without harming the data. Next time, you might want to send it to people who are extremely good at repairs. It might save you a load of butthurt.

Be weary now, on my old PS3, it happened too. I fixed it by myself, but It happened twice more within 2 months and finally a YLOD. Not sure if it was just my horrible handywork, or if it just wanted to die, but Im warning you now, save and back your stuff up every week, it saves lives!

You can just slot in a 2.5" SATA drive (most commonly found in laptops) and it should work.

Here's a list of HDDs employed across various PS3 models for reference: http://www.edepot.com/playstation3.html#PS3_Harddrive
