Where have all the legends gone?
Archive: 62 posts
Seems like forever ago, but only just last year some of the funniest, brightest, and often opinionated people used to roam this forum. I miss those days. | 2011-11-19 06:15:00 Author: KILLA_TODDZILLA Posts: 653 |
Times have changed. This isn't the same site I remember about three years ago... Many people have come and gone. Some left because their lives got busy. Others left by force due to being banned. And yet, many people leave because, well... this site isn't in their interests anymore. I mean, this community is really good (stellar, more like) compared to other fansites I've been to. Most members around here are welcoming, there's plenty of things to do and the overall aspect of this site is good. But, as time goes on... we move on. People have their reasons (some better than others), and you'll have to respect them. I've been around long enough to know what I'm talking about. Sure, I ain't as old as others like RockSauron or Morgana25 (in both age and length of membership, for that matter), but I've still been around long enough to see this trend. Sites like these usually last as long as the franchise does, and, well... LittleBigPlanet isn't growing so much anymore. Media Molecule has moved on to do other projects, some maybe even more ambitious than LittleBigPlanet. Even though Sony is trying to milk out as much as they can, not much has evolved beyond this point. Other games have taken top priorities in today's videogame culture and, as much as I hate to say it, LittleBigPlanet just isn't as prevalent as it was three years ago. And once the core reason begins losing its values, so do the assets, like this site. From what I've seen, sites like this either die out or evolve. Many sites (especially those focused on one-time games or shooters) slowly fade out until all that's left are the posts and old talks to reminisce. Sure, some members might hop back on from time to time, but other than that, not much really happens. Those lucky few (only one site I found, so far) who manage to go against the tide evolve into something much more. The site becomes a focus on the community itself as much as it does on the initial game it was created on. Though members from long ago aren't around as much, there's always an up-and-coming star to fill in their shoes. But in order for that to even happen, the game, and the community, must evolve above their original meaning into much, much more. I'll still be around when this site kicks the bucket; whether or not that's sooner than later is uncertain. Maybe if we're lucky, we'll manage through these dark times and perhaps arrive at a brighter, more populated future. | 2011-11-19 07:07:00 Author: Outlaw-Jack Posts: 5757 |
I think you explained that quite well in my opinion Jack. I like the way you put effort into your posts. Glad to see that you'll be staying here. I'm planning on staying a long time too, this site is great. | 2011-11-19 21:11:00 Author: Unknown User |
Actually, Jack, Morgana registered January 8th, 2009. You registered January 21st, 2009. 13 days is hardly enough to make her that much older then you in terms of user membership. I mean, sure, she's way older then you in terms of age, but I'm not that much older then you (like, what, two years or something?), and regardless, that would be inconsequential to this topic. Anyway, had to be an annoying nitpicker. ...Then again, for like the first eyar you were only in Forum Games... and... peanuts, I'm never going to let that incident go, am I? >_> At any rate... Blahblahblah, fond reminiscing, blahblahblah all the people I've known, blahblahblah everyone I ever knew is DEAD. Or at least no longer on LBPC. Whicheves. You've all heard me give the same rant a million times over, so I won't bother with it again :/ | 2011-11-19 21:38:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
Im quite scared of the thought, what will happen when the site dies? | 2011-11-19 22:47:00 Author: >er. Posts: 785 |
If the site "dies", it won't be one of the persons contributing to its death. I plan to stick around as long as I play LBP, and I plan to play LBP for a long time. For as long as MM and Tarsier studios keep bringing out the good stuff. About the legends, maybe they just decided to move on to another games. It happens. Other people will step up and take their place. Quite a few people I usually see posting around here are finally getting their MM picks as of late, so I don't think the site or the game will run out of legenday creators. | 2011-11-20 01:01:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |
In no way am I a legend, but I've been registered on this site for over 2 years and made a couple thousand posts. I can personally say that I find it harder to stay around myself. Nothing here seems to really interest me anymore. I wish I could wind back the clocks, but nothing can do that. Outlaw hit it right on the nose. | 2011-11-20 03:31:00 Author: piggabling Posts: 2979 |
Yeah, I suppose nothing else really interests me either. I mean, I haven't even played LBP2 since July, and that's just cause my 5 year old nephew and 3 year old niece came to visit. I probably haven't even played this game since I canceled Chains of Time back in April. I only stay here because this is the only place I am registered at and don't know any other place to go :/ So yeah, I know a bunch of people probably left because of no more interest in LBP, and a bunch more probably jumped shipped to the Planetarium or whatever. So, basically, I guess it's primarily because people either lost interest in LBP or just lost interest in LBPC :/ | 2011-11-20 04:17:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |
There's no user better than others, no legends, but there's people that flocked around some users, some of which turned their backs. I like Central anyway, with its flaws and its users. Some people migrating actually benefitted the site that now has a better and more nice mood that last year. Just appreciate what I have. The friends, not the big names (even if some friends are big names). | 2011-11-21 09:41:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

Seems like forever ago, but only just last year some of the funniest, brightest, and often opinionated people used to roam this forum. I miss those days. It's probably just a coincidence but you joined last year and all those legends left maybe those things are related. | 2011-11-22 17:11:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
It's probably just a coincidence but you joined last year and all those legends left maybe those things are related. Personally, upon seeing Godzilla set his feet on the shores of LBPC, I almost **** my pants. Like others have said, at core this is a LBP fansite, and LBP itself isn't so popular. Hell, I only play it now for reasons like Rock (my 4 year old cousin coming over). It'll probably last for a year or two, then who knows. It'll die or like Jack said, evolve into LittleBigGalaxyCentral. (herpaderp) | 2011-11-22 21:07:00 Author: Testudini Posts: 3262 |
I believe that, if LBP started losing its prestige, this site would automatically evolve to "PS3 Central" or "Game Central" or something like that. There's too much of a community to let this site die. I've been into a Spore community before, and we only talked about Spore. When the game decayed, so did the site. Here we have the Minecrafters, BF3 players, artists, all among the LBPers. Would be a shame to see this site go down under. | 2011-11-22 22:03:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |
I think this site needs more dragons... and explosions. Someone should hire Michael Bay | 2011-11-22 22:30:00 Author: AgentBanana Posts: 511 |
Last I heard people either left to the planetarium, were driven away for the overly grudgeful community that loves to rage over the smallest things, or moved on to another game, simple as that. At least that's what the people I asked said. As said, this site is mostly for people into LBP only, you may argue but at least for the majority, whenever people move to the next game, more than likely they will move to that game's forums and their communities. Sure there are die-hard community members, but that goes to pretty much all forums. | 2011-11-22 23:10:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
Well, I don't post much on here any more. Simply because I don't play LBP or LBP2 at all. I'd like to, but I don't play during the week, and my brothers hog it on the weekend. There isn't enough happening for me in LBP. There's not much new DLC, and I can't play community levels so I'm not interested. It's a shame. A shame. | 2011-11-22 23:31:00 Author: tomodon246 Posts: 624 |
Hmm. it's not that bad around here... but i have noticed some active members have not been around much lately. I guess the new car smell has worn off for some people. but i never cared about that kind of thing to start with. unlike some others do, i'm not only interested in something that's new. I love LBP because I want to create games, mainly 2.5D games and i think the style of LBP is cute, sure there are still bugs on the game that have not been fixed, but whatever, i'm not interested in spending many years of creating on another game maker or whatever. I'm happy with LBP. so yeah i'll be sicking around trying to keep getting better at LBP and continue to keep creating games on it. and hopefully some day there'll be a new LBP... maybe for PS4, but i'll live with LBP2 and LBP-vita once it's out for now. IMHO, LBP is almost just as fun as it ever has been, and i been playing it since 2009. *mew | 2011-11-23 15:40:00 Author: Lord-Dreamerz Posts: 4261 |
There are sill bright, humorous and interesting people who roam these forums IMO. However these people need time before we can class them as legends to the site. I still find this site to be a fun, bright and fun site to roam and every thread I glance at, there is a sign that the times you talk about are still present in the current community. | 2011-11-23 15:44:00 Author: craigmond Posts: 2426 |
Like many before me I've lost interest. I'm also just way to busy with school and just living that I barely even play video games anymore. So far all the realizations that come with maturity leave me in a perpetually depressed state. I don't like it. It all just really sucks. Oh well! What can ya do? Ignorance is most definetly bliss. | 2011-11-24 06:06:00 Author: Amigps Posts: 564 |
I have a feeling that a few of them will be back when they finally get around to playing LBP again. That's how it goes for me. I don't play LBP much, I don't come on much. Don't forget that a lot of really good games have been coming out, thus many have stopped playing LBP to play other games. Once they have played through those games, they will go back to older ones. That is, if they have the time. There's also the nostalgia factor. Nostalgia will keep a person playing a game for years, albeit intermittently. | 2011-11-24 08:11:00 Author: RagTagPwner Posts: 344 |
I stopped coming on this site awhile ago and now I just poke my head in every 3 weeks or something. Even though it seems like I don't really care about it, if I heard the site was going down I would be EXTREMELY upset. I have practically grown up on here. | 2011-11-24 16:50:00 Author: Snrm Posts: 6419 |
Well have i haven't been here for even a year yet but I have got too say that it still has a certain sort of Vibe to it , as I still believe that some of the legends still pop there heads up every now and then. I actually think the forums are at their best right now. Most of the trolls seem to have crawled back under their bridges, and all I've seen recently are people engaging in friendly chit chat, respectful debate and mutual support. The mods rarely need to step into a thread and wave the hammer these days, which is a sure sign of good communal harmony and commendable self-policing among the current regulars here. Even I've learned to behave myself. Mostly... | 2011-11-25 00:49:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
Another "I miss em good ole days" thread, huh? To be honest, people are just busy, shunned (banned or hated), or just plain uninterested in the site. This site does revolve around LBP, you know. People will eventually grow tired of LBP, and life is very demanding. Forgive me if I'm ruining this reflection-fest with my straight-forward opinions. Enjoy your umpteenth thread now. | 2011-11-25 11:38:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |

Anyway what was so different about "The Old Days" in comparison to now? This sums it up: I actually think the forums are at their best right now. Mostly... Now, there's a reason why I added a strike on the first sentence. I actually believe that the site has gotten quite dull with all of that gone. Like back in the day, I began posting a LOT more when the PSP section came out, but with that section came numerous amounts of trolls, drama, and spam/rant threads. While yes they did frustrate us at times, they did create a rather entertainment era in the section. With so many unexpected things popping up in there it was hard NOT to post in those threads. That's how our community became a strong force, by joining together and getting rid of the trolls. Another thing I remember was the mods. They were loose on the rules and didn't nitpick so much. Crazy, random, and funny things resulted from this: Doopz and robotiod getting "married", troll threads being allowed to be open (for a while) for people to rant/spam them, and other threads that were considered spam yet they were greeted with approval. Now you can't crack a joke without a mod giving you an infraction for it. Overall, I think these stricter rules, life being busy, and MediaMolecule's lack of interest in LBP has driven many of our site's members from here. Crowns don't seem special anymore because how common it is to see a contest for one, LBP2's new tools and system makes skill almost insignificant anymore, and our site bans our veteran users (which is why some of them ran off to some other sites). I agree, it is quiet and behaved, but that doesn't necessarily make it a perfect site in my eyes. | 2011-11-27 00:02:00 Author: CyberSora Posts: 5551 |

So much of what has been said is true. I find it hard to believe LBP is actually dying. I'm myself have said it before, but the fact remains that a large number of the best community creators have simply been out-sourced to official projects. That these creators are being employed is probably proof enough that LBP is not dying. Mutating perhaps? I myself really miss the pre-LBP2 days. As of all this talk of Legends... A Legend really cant be defined now can it? They are unique to each of us. And at times, each of us raise another users' posts to the status of 'must reads'. When enough of us individuals feel like-minded, collectively, these posters/creators became the stuff of legend. Unique creator, unique poster. That's how it works for me atleast! I used to rush to these forums... I had a gaggle of friends that I tried to entertain and who made me laugh out loud as well. At the heart of it all we shared the love of this game. That's not going away any time soon. I just don't currently have many 'must reads' these days... and that's entirely my fault. I haven't done the work of finding the new 'turks'. The last influx of new blood brought in a lot of rift-raft tbh. It scared me away from being the best community member I could be... The old ones are dead and gone. I seriously need to axe my friendslist and begin anew. :hrmf: | 2011-12-13 15:29:00 Author: Gravel Posts: 1308 |
