Sackbot won't collect score bubbles.

Archive: 11 posts

Help! I was working on a level where you play as a sackbot, with your Sackboy following in a controllinator mounted on a piece of invisible hologram (the standard method, as far as I know). The problem was, when I started to put score bubbles in the level, the sackbot would run right through them, and not collect them. It might be worth mentioning that the player will control two sackbots at once in the level. I took the very same sackbots/ follower set-up to a new, empty level, and the score bubbles were working just fine. Any ideas?

I haven't been able to play LBP for well over a month (PS3 issues), but I'm hoping to be back on in a week or two and would love to solve this problem and finish this level. Has anyone had this problem where your invisible Sackboy will not collect score bubbles? Help me LBPC, you're my only hope.

Yeah, that's a glitch. Sackbots will for some reason block score bubbles from being collected if they're between you and the score bubble. My solution would be to put a tag on the Sackbot, and have every bubble be activated by an impact sensor set to that tag.2011-11-18 20:01:00

Thanks for the reply, Blue Helmet. I was hoping to avoid doing that, just to keep things simple- but if I have to, I guess I will. I just thought it was weird that it worked fine in one level but not another.2011-11-19 22:27:00

The issue isn't that bots won't collect them, but that your sackboy's layer awareness isn't the most intuitive.

When you enter a controlinator, sackboy's layer state is remembered and "locked in" for the duration of riding in the controlinator. If you enter the controlinator from behind a wall in the middle layer, you won't be able to collect any bubbles in the front layer.

The solution: Make sure that all three layers are clear when you enter the controlinator. You can still block the front thin layer, as it's not part of the play-space.

Wow, I didn't know that! And the Almighty comphermc teaches me once more I don't use score bubbles in my levels anyways, and if I want to hide stuff I make hologram icons to find. Still, that's a weird behavior.2011-11-21 01:56:00

Wow, thanks Mr. Compher. You are (of course) right in assuming that Sacky enters the Controlinator in the middle layer, behind a piece of thick material. I never would have figured that out, as the follower is set to allow layer changing, and I had tested it in create mode to make sure he wasn't somehow staying in the middle layer.
Thanks for the help... you know, you should make tutorials, or work on LBP for the Vita or something- because you seem to know a lot about this stuff!

Amazing. I would have gone the logic route, layer awareness is something that I would have never considered.2011-11-21 08:45:00

Ty comph!

Knew it was something to do with how the engine figured ur sackboys layer, had tried different size and different layer holo and mount option, none worked. But now I know!

Hello visitors. I'm currently taking a break from creating in LBP2, as I'm helping out with the new LittleBigPlanet game for the Playstation Vita. I will be back once the project is finished, but in the meantime check out my published levels or my Youtube tutorials under the name LBPlanetorials!
