Hideo Kojima is back behind the wheel for the next installment in the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

First details of the project are revealed in the upcoming issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine UK (http://www.officialplaystationmagazine.co.uk/2011/11/16/historic-issue-65-cover-features-hideo-kojima/), where Kojima himself discusses plans for Metal Gear Solid 5 and the recently teased Project Ogre.

The issue hits newsstands on November 29, though excerpts from the interview are said to be available online sometime next week.

Read this on Twitter, was about to make a topic for it.

Project Ogre is his secret project, will be a new IP I think.

Any true Metal Gear fan should be ecstatic right now. The MGS series is my favorite of all time and I never want it to end lol. Long live the master known as Hideo Kojima!

Should we now? So basically, you just want them to keep making an already complex even more convoluted to the point that all meaning is lost?

The importance of a story is its ending. If a story never ends, then it's jsut a cheap gimmick to sell more, more more.

The beauty of MGS4 was that everything ended. The Patriots were destroyed, Liquid and Ocelot and whoever were gone, and Snake and Raiden were now able to live the rest of their lives in peace.

And now all that is for nothing. Because they needed to sell another game, screw the actual story.

I mean, seriously, what now? All of the old villains are dead. All of the plot lines are now wrapped up. So they'd need to throw in some new villain... and just... why? I mean, seriously?

Is this what we are? Do we seriously want to see the same old crap over and over? Why the **** can we not just have a game story that actually ends, instead of just throwing in more and more **** into the same story in order to sell more of the same thing?

I mean, goddamit it. The story is over. There are no more old plotlines. Meaning they'd need to add new ones, just for the sake of making a new game.

Oh, but I'm sorry. A "True" MGS fan doesn't want a cohesive story. Nor does any "True" videogame fan. No, we don't want to have a story that means something, that actually has a point beyond selling more. No, a "True" MGS fan/ video game fan just wants to see his favorite characters doing things over and over again. No new stories. No new ideas. Just the same characters in the same universe that already had an ending, doing more, because money trumps art. Seriously, just... just **** it all. Rising could have been passed as a side story even if it ruined the entire meaning of the end of Metal Gear Solid 4 and Raiden... but now we just want more of the same plop plowed in front of us because we can't live with having a story having a good ending. /sigh

Rock, MGS4 was the end of Solid Snakes story, not the end of the Metal Gear Solid universe. Kojima has said this before, and he said as long as fans want MGS games he (or atleast his company) will make them. Metal Gear Solid 5 doesn't mean it has to concentrate on Solid Snake - as the universe has introduced us to tons of characters.

Before Rising was announced, I wanted a game telling the story of how Raiden broke Sunny out of Area 51 and what the heck happened in all that time. Unfortuanatly the game seems to have gone down the toilet, as producers are being changed, delays are given and there are no trailers that Kojima would usually sort out. I'm worried the game will turn out to be a dud. However, news of a MGS5 gives me more hope for the future of the series, as with any luck kojima will be behind this (hopefully more traditional) MGS game more. There are a few ways the game could go; such as creating a new story in the Metal Gear universe, or even recreating Metal Gear 1 & 2 (which would be absolutely epic if he did).

Basically, as long as they don't try and bring any cheap ways of bringing Snake back (unless it's a prequel, which I'm cool with) then I see no reason not to let them start a new story (or unless we see him actually die. Again, could be epic). As long as it doesn't nullify any of the story that came before it then I don't see a problem. You're basically saying that 'no, I don't want another fantastic Metal Gear game to play!'. I don't see why not. You're overreacting to the whole end of the story thing, and certainly don't knock it until you've heard what it is.

EDIT: Also, if Project Ogre was Zone of the Enders 3 I would be absolutely ecstatic! Sure, that was another game that concluded the story fully, but there's plenty more stories to be thought up with in that universe. And man would it look amazing on PS3 (ZoE2 still looks spectacular and that's PS2!)

Yes, but everything was ****ing over at the end of MGS4. There is nothing new to the old stories. THERE ARE NO NEW ****ING PLOT LINES.

Seriously, you people make me ****ing sick. Who needs a good new game? We just need to ruin the ending of a game.

seriously, why the **** can't a game just ****ing stay dead and not have to ruin the story.

Oh, MGS4 was the end of Snake's story? Then what story is there left to tell? All the old loose ends are over. Now, all that remains is to twist an already convoluted plot into even more complicated ********. Everything hunkdorey at the end of MGS4? NO DURR HUR! WE NEED TO MAKE A NEW MONEY SINK!

God, you mother ****ing idiots. this is no more ****ing story in the old MGS universe. Can't Kojima make a new game? One with a unique sotry? No, because you ****tards won't buy a new game. You just want the same story to go on forever. OF course there are no good stories in videogames when retards like you morons exist who just want the same go******** game over and over >_<

Alright... how about this one? What happened at the end of MGS4? Pretty much the whole military system broke down, everything has gone to **** for them and we have no idea how they recover from this. That alone could be a story for the game, let alone other stuff that they could come up with. Seriously, how can you dismiss the premises of the story for the game without even hearing what it is? If they say 'Snake has reversed the aging, he is young and well again and a new Metal Gear is about to launch a nuke!!' then yes, go ahead and rage as I will agree with you. However, the series has never let me down with the new stories it has come up with. Just look at peace walker, we didn't realise how a good story would fit in where it did, but that game is simply amazing and the story is fantastic.

You're raging way too much over this, and the only idiot here is appearing to be you from all those ****'s. :/ You are totally missing the point that there could be a whole new story. And even if there isn't, I have confidence in them to make something good due to Kojimas excellent track record. Christ Rock... this isn't like Modern Warfare here, and it's far from becoming it, so quit acting like it is something like this.

Can't Kojima make a new game? One with a unique sotry? No, because you ****tards won't buy a new game.

What on earth do you think Project Ogre is then?! MGS6: Snake's Resurrection?!?!?

Ooh, so now the military can need to rebuild itself! Yep, totally logical and metal gear-y. And now that all the villains are dead, some NEW villains can come! Oh boy!

Seriously, why the **** can't a story just stay dead for once in a while >_<. The whole point of MGS4 was that all of the story was over. And now they want to make a sequel for no reason other then money. Woopie. Can't we just have a self contained story for once >_>

Unless this would just be a remake of Metal Gear and 2... that would be ok then. Though I still wish Kojima would just make a new game instead of whoring out Metal Gear >_< But of course why would he, no one wants to play a new game :/

And do I really need to explain the difference between updating a sports like game like Call of Duty, and a problem in gaming where no company can leave a story well enough alone so that it's integrity isn't lost? If so, then you really just have no clue at all >_> I'm not talking about gameplay quality, I'm talking about story. A story needs a beginning, middle and end. MGS4 was the end. Sure, they COULD BS a new story to add onto it, but all it would do would be to invalidate the entire ending of MGS4. But whatever, WE GETS MORE OF THE SAME SERIES WOOOOOOO

We don't know that it would invalidate MGS4's ending at all though. If they bring back Snake, then yeah it does invalidate it and I will be ****** and they better have a bloody good reason for doing so. But without hearing what it's about first, then I'm not gunna say no just yet. Like I said, Peace Walker introduced an excellent story (simple too!) and game so I hope they pull that off with success again.

We already have Snake's self contained story, it has a beginning middle and end. If they have a great idea for a new story, then I'd love to hear it. A new story doesn't necessarily mean it will ruin MGS4's story. (unless they screw it up lol)

And the military thing would be exactly inline with MGS story. Which MGS4 were you playing!? It was all focused on the military being fully controlled! Heck, there was no new 'Metal Gear' in MGS4! (a first in the series too. Unless you count Haven, but that's just a rehash of Arsenal Gear)

I'll repeat what I edited into my last post too - he is working on a new game. Project Ogre. If you want you can ignore MGS5 and just listen out for this secret project game instead. I however, will hopefully be enjoying yet another great MGS game (providing they don't screw it up. So far they haven't, so I trust them)

Oh - and the MW refrence was to your talk on being a cash cow:

NO DURR HUR! WE NEED TO MAKE A NEW MONEY SINK!
As that's what I think of when I think of MW, regardless of the whole story/gameplay thing.

EDIT: Another awesome potential plot line:
http://metalgear.wikia.com/wiki/Mercenary_War

This takes place inbetween Peace Walker and Metal Gear 1, and would be a great lead up to MG1 & 2. We would get Big Boss again and would see some awesome characters come back like Grey Fox

There were two endings to MGS4 though..

The bit in the graveyard - where you hear the gun go off and the screen goes black - I actually stood up in my living room to give it a standing ovation...

... that's where it 'should have ended.

....and then it suffered from the Stand By Me "What happened Next?..." syndrome....

Where they spoil what would have been an epic pathos ending... and instead choose to end it by suffocating a helpless old man in a wheel-chair?!

It went from the best ending ever - to the worst ending ever.

I love the MGS series - but they really should hire a proper director for the cut scenes

They should also stop with the Pong remakes, because it is ruining the story.

If my sarcasm was not understood, we are talking about games here. I'm all for a good story but we needn't flip out because a new game is coming out that will "ruin it". But if any game series should stop, it's Mario, I mean, guys been in more games than you can count. (That was more sarcasm) <<

MGS4 was bad... I hope it plays more like MGS1 or 3.

Fans have wanted one set in WWII at the start of the story for ages now, maybe it'll happen? It'd be cool to play as The Boss in the Cobra Unit.

I like the way the cutscenes are handled mostly. There's definatly a few bad choices here and there, and some stupid story aspects too (WHY did otacon & Naomi hook up!? Just... stupid. Oh let's make 4 eyes suffer even more by hooking him up with a death trap!), but I like the way they're done most of the time.

And... yeah... still never decided on whether I liked the MGS4 ending. The ending before credits was awesome, but then after credits... I dunno. The thing i disliked most was the 10 minute explanation of taking one to zero cause zero was one so we must go back to zero where it belonged because one was bad. So we killed zero. Or something like that. (actually nothing at all but you get the gist). I did think seeing Big Boss was cool and I'm glad snake got the chance to live out his life, however long or short that is, but it certainly could of been handled better D:

One thing I never complain about though is lengthy cutscenes. To me, they are as much as a part of the experience as playing the game. I have no issue with molding the 2 entertainments of movies and games together, as it was mostly interesting to me.

There are few things that could get me as excited as I am about the prospect of MGS5. I'm hoping it'll be a prequel where you play as The Boss (IMO she is the most interesting character in the entire series) but that's probably wishful thinking.

Kojima, you're a hero. Keep em coming!

So this could be nothing.

When asked about the sequel to MGS 4 the series? creator replied ?I think we?ll probably have to make it at some point, but what that will be, we have no idea?. Once again, though, Kojima is downplaying his involvement. ?As far as my involvement in the project is concerned, [it] probably won?t be as much as it was with MGS1 ? maybe I can do just one stage! For MGS1 I made the maps myself, laid out the enemy routes myself, did everything hands-on ? that level I can?t do again.

Only MGS game I played was MGS4, and I ate that game up.
Probably one of my favorites, and now I can't wait for this one to come out! Or.. at least see some more about it soon.

If you don't already have the MGS HD collection to play those older games... oh boy. Get them. Now.

Little late to the party here but whatever
I'd like a new MGS. I admit, I'm a bit of a Snake fanboy (Seriously, I hated Raiden in 2. Him sneaking around in the nip ><) but it could be like MGS5. Cover some more backstory. Just because Rock doesn't want new enemies or stories doesn't mean others don't
