sorry to have to be the one to tell you this but this has been common knowledge since LBP1. it really doesn't require a tutorial to say: 'shrink dark matter til it's invisible', but having said that, i suppose some people wouldn't have know that.2011-11-17 22:50:00

Dang, u guys don't have to be so mean about it. Heck, I just learned this a few months ago. and im not a newby. How would u like if someone shot down your tutorial like this. And why is there a need for hurtful, stupid remarks?2011-11-18 05:24:00

rambo, I understand that you're probably upset at what's been said, but I don't think anyone meant it to be malicious or hurtful; they were simply saying that perhaps you should have checked the forums a bit more thoroughly before making a post that essentially already exists!

This said, however, I never knew this method either, so this tutorial is of some use to me, and I never would have bothered checking back through older posts!

So thank you!

i'm sorry if i upset you, i really didn't mean to. like i said, there may be some that didn't know of this as the poster above can attest to. why not change the title to 'things you should know but don't' and let other people contribute!

here's one i found out recently:

invisible material

take a piece of material (square) and shrink it til it's invisible. you may have to rotate it slightly to make it smaller. now copy and paste it over itself and expand it. copy and paste it again and shrink it til it's invisible again. the more you copy/paste and expand, the bigger the invisible material gets. then when you have a nice large piece, grab it and name it (i forgot i had it because i couldn't see it lol)

edit: i think i missed something here. can anyone verify?

We didn't mean to insult you or your tutorial in any ways, we just don't like having many posts of the same subject. One thing I do to help me find walls back is place a grab sensor on both ends. It's always hard to find invisible stuff...2011-11-21 02:46:00

I always think if Rome in situations like this. The Romans knew how to make concrete, then people forgot for a few hundred years.

A quick search on dark matter may bring up some information. But maybe a link to a specific 'make invisible walls' in the tutorial mega thread isn't that bad an idea. I only just found out you can switch layers while swimming.

As for invisible walls I make them from light matter (because I like it more) and have a one block wide length of holo (same length as the wall) glued to it. I set the holo to either green or red. Green if its a surface you can run on, or is there to force a layer switch, red if it's meant as a barrier that is not meant to be passed.

So a set of stairs would have a diagonal green strip over the set of steps in create mode, letting me know that I can just walk up them without pesky jumping.

The holo also makes it really easy to grab from any point.

^^Ahhh but you can, if you grab at a hard surface while swimming you can push into a different layer.

I could make a tutorial about it, but would hate to be shouted down by people that already know.

This (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=17759-Creating-Editable-Invisible-Material-In-Seconds) is where I originally learned about making invisible material. Luckily the glitch still works in LBP2
