Keep Up! (with photos)

Archive: 23 posts

If you liked those levels in SMW where the camera moves at a constant speed, and you just have to keep up with it, than try my new level. The level has been re-published with more point combos available, and some new lightening effects.

Level: Keep-Up
PSN: Walter- Kovacs

I finally finished. This is a good level if you are looking for a challenge because you only get 6 lives.

Looks very polished and fun. I'm about to go to sleep though so I'll check it out later. Just remind me please? If you want some constructive feedback of course. 2008-12-26 09:28:00

It is in the story mode...I think you have to ace the Wedding levels, or maybe it is another set.

I forgot to mention that a lot of the random people seem to think it is too hard, let me know what you think of the difficulty. I tried to figure out a simple way of adding more lives, but it will be a big hassle, so I am not going to. However, I am open to other ideas of how to make it easier/better overall.2008-12-26 09:49:00

Just finished it, and I loved the color scheme. You really decked out the level with neat little aesthetic touches. It helped flesh out the level; I really enjoyed it. I found the camera to be a bit slow, but that actually helped at some points, so it ended up working out. The only thing that really bothered me was the camera angle. I couldn't tell if I was going to land on a platform or not, and that resulted in my death more than once. That's really my only gripe; overall, great job. 2008-12-31 23:03:00

Yeah, I think that the 2.5d is the reason this forced sidescrolling doesn't work perfectly. I have the camera set as straight on as possible, but when you are at the edges the angles can play tricks on you.

I really enjoyed that level of yours there. I felt that maybe the camera was a bit too slow, but then again I'm pretty good with platformers, so it's good to have it too slow rather than too fast. I did encounter one major glitch though. Right near the beginning of the level, the first tree you see(possibly second tree) broke off of something and leaned down. This caused a lot more than you'd think. It made the camera and the gas at either side stop moving, rendering the level unplayable. It didn't happen the second time though. Anyway:

Pros

Reminds me a lot of old-school platformers
Beautiful scenery
Although I think the description said the monsters weren't yours, they were still great picks
Good difficulty balance

Cons/Suggestions

Fix that glitch that I mentioned at the top, if you can. I can't help you there though, because I don't know what was going on down below.
The platforms that dipped when you jump on them felt a little too unforgiving. Maybe reduce the speed at which they drop?
Hmm...that's all that comes to mind

Overall good level mate.

Thanks for the feedback BassDeluxe, as far as the glitch is concerned, I can't figure out why it happens or why it only happens like 1 in every 15 plays.2009-01-01 10:12:00

Just finished this level and I really enjoyed it. As Bass Deluxe pointed out, it's very reminiscent of old school platformers. And while I'm not usually a big fan of the timed or moving levels, I didn't mind this one so much. It has a pleasing aesthetic and I felt that the platforming was well done. I appreciated the "multi-paths" where more advanced jumps lead to more points. Very nice.

The only issue that leaped out at me were the "dipping" platforms that BassDeluxe mentioned. while I didn't have too much trouble with them, they did seem to dip a little too fast. Other than that, I didn't have too many issues. Well done!

Edit: Oh! I really liked the platform that appears after you respawn as well. Nice of you to let the player regain their footing.

Actually you get the bird sackboy for acing the temple levels and not the wedding, you get the roman soldier from the wedding.

That level was awesome. It felt almost like playing a mario level. I loved the forced sidescrolling and the way it changed to going upwards near the end. I don't think it's too hard, but the part with the wobbling long parts and the "dipping platforms" mentioned felt a little mean. This is the second level where trying to get a high score and collect as many bubbles as possible is fun. The level is not very hard to get through, but it's a challenge to collect bubbles and try not to die. I think I'm going to replay it a few times. (But hey, I got #2 place on my first try xD).
Also I think the speed at which it was going was good, allowing a few errors but not too many.
And I have to say, although the trees and creatures are not yours, you have placed and used them very well combined with the original look of your level.
I also like the three countdown blocks that spawn after you die. Very nice idea.
For players that are not so skilled, it might help adding more lives to avoid frustration, but it seems it's not so easy to do that.
I don't know how much of the thermometer it uses, but I'd love to play a longer version of that level.

I haven't encountered the glitch mentioned, but maybe it helps to glue a very small, invisible piece of dark matter to the tree so it won't break?

Wow awesome level. The colors and the overrall look was great. Suited the level perfectly. As bassdeluxe stated earlier the "weight" platforms was very hard. They need to be fixed. Also the electrified traps that was going up and down with a help of a chain felt a little too fast. Give the player some time. Otherwise I gave it 5/5 and hearted it!2009-01-01 17:22:00

It took me three tries to make it through intact, but the difficulty level was quite appropriate.

I did run into the tree branch glicth on one of my runs. Perhaps because I jumped off into the abyss near the beginning =)

As for the platforms which move opposite of each other, it would be a little less cruel to let the first instance of them be non-fatal, just so the player can see how they operate. Then the second set can be much more cruel!

Very nice level there! Looks great, has that happy LBP vibe to it!

I played it with my girlfriend 2 player but we did notice a few things. Spawning after dying on 2 player only works once both players die (except for some places) due to the fact that the checkpoint is off screen (very minor). The dropping platforms fall too fast, maybe you could add a cracking sound for a second before they drop to indicate that they will fall. Camera is a bit too slow during the easier parts of the level but perfect when you get to the electrified bits, is there a way of making some sections faster?

Overall very nice level, I like the parts where hanging on untill the edge of the screen is as close as possible to get maximum points is great, gives a bit more replay value and encourages more risky tactics!

Hey walter I just played your level when the servers finally let me online.

pros

I like the visual style of the level throughout.
the level was tricky but not overly so
the speed of the camera was well done & maintained

cons

I didn't really find any to be honest, though you could maybe get away with making the camera/safe zone a lil faster. but that's just nit-picking lol

Conclusion

A really fun colourful challenge which keeps you alert. 5 stars & heart.

If you have time try 'Little big Everest' by MoonSap. Should be on page 2.

Did anyone figure out the secret to getting the floating points after the second clap-trap(lightening/squish trap)? Just curious.2009-04-23 02:03:00
