Looking good. I am making heavy use of the new content as well on my new level, you should see my turrets lol. Anyway, it should be another high quality level from you

Btw, are those blue spotlights on the turrets? I only ask because I am using blue spotlights so I wanted you to know I had them before I saw these pics lol.

Like what for example? For the most part, all of that stuff is custom made.

Actually, this is part two of the Armorboy series considering you're heading into Facility 7, the group that attacked in the first part. I'm making it so that you don't really need to play the first one in order to get into the second one, but you'll see some familiar faces and mecha show up... like the enemy Armorboys and the Armorknight.

I was going to upload a video of my progress in the stage, but my computer shut down when I was sleeping. When I get back from work later on today, I'll post it. I came up with some pretty cool modular stuff that's making it really easy to move stuff around if I don't like the particular order.

You'll like the whole stage in motion then. It would have been easy to show if my stupid computer didn't turn off while uploading my preview vid. Also, the turrets can be won, assuming you find them throughout the stage.

There are also enemy Armorboys and other large mecha you get to tackle by yourself with the Paintinator so it's really fun. If you ever liked Contra, Gunstar Heroes, or other fun run-and-gun games, there's a lot of influence found in this stage.

I'm trying to figure out how to do a "falling" elevator sequence boss section, so hopefully it'll work out while being freaking intense.

No problem. I don't use a lot of complex shapes aside from the Armorboys so it really helps with thermometer management. I just let the textures do the work.2008-12-28 07:47:00

But thanks everyone. I'm hoping to hit it up with a couple more platforming type puzzles, including a couple of wicked bosses (assuming the thermometer will let me do so). Glad y'all like what you see so far. ^^

I might have to strictly make this a one-player affair though considering I really don't have much room for adding in the infinite checkpoint glitch respawn when dealing with 2 or more players.

Wouldn't it be nice if, for levels that lag hard from complexity or have the checkpoint problem, or even camera follow issues - to be able to set the maximum number of players allowed in your level at one time?

I think that would also benefit levels heavy in dialogue, as people seem to have a better experience with that by themselves where they can concentrate and slow down a little.

Yeah, my levels tend to lag because of the massive complexity going on all over the place, from rendering all the freaking stickers I use to light sources, etc.

It wouldn't be a bad idea throwing that over to Mm and see if they think it might be a good idea for the reasons you stated. As it is right now, the fix for the checkpoint problem is not very elegant, therefore limiting it to one player would be so awesome to do.

Hopefully they'll unlimit the amount of lives a checkpoint has one day.

Now that I'm back from my snowboarding trip and am cleansing my system of all the alcohol intake over new years, I've nearly finished all the rooms for the first stage. They ended up being a bit much on the thermometer, but it shouldn't be an issue considering I'm making a follow up stage to include a grand boss battle/escape type situation.

Will update with pics when I get back from work in the morning.

EDIT:

I've just published the beta version of the stage with most of the core gameplay and puzzles intact. There isn't much dialog and instruction atm considering I haven't reached that point in the development of the stage, but I figured if some of y'all can help me out with some comments and critiques past the obvious stuff that's missing, it would be a great help.

LOL, I figured that might get some people. Okay, it's really simple and you're probably going to hit yourself over the head because of it...

Get rid of the Paintinator and jump and grab that red light to swing across to the next section.

Or watch the beginning of this.

I played the beta of this one, and I have to say, it's amazing!! pretty weird you only got 3 stars for the level though.. maybe people think it's to hard and they just give it one star then.. could someone explain the infinite checkpoint glitch? Would like to know because ill use it in my next level.

The glitch occurs when two or more players are playing. When a respawn occurs, there's a possibility that the checkpoint will not respawn the second player and thus they are lost from coming back for the rest of the game. This also prevents the team from completing the level considering you need everyone to cross the end.

Ok i tried it out and i must say that i was amazed, five stars and heart. But you may need to rework the beginning a bit as its pretty hard to see in that lighting, i also managed to repeatedly fall through a hole in a platform down into gas, think it was shortly after you had encountered the first turrets. To the left theres a big wall of red gas and you're supposed to jump down onto another walkway beneath you. There's also a little bug in the infinite checkpoints with a jetpack where you don't activate the emitter if you don't fly into the sensor switch by purpose.2009-01-05 23:11:00

You make a level that is beta, and it is still better than most levels online.

I thought it was great, I had trouble figuring out what to do next(not long though, but it still took a while), the first time I played it, I noticed some lag(not often), but the second time I played it with my bro, there was less lag.

Overall it is a good level, just try to put some more mechs in it.

Hey, sorry it took so long to test this.

It's looking good honestly, I love the visual style (even if it's a little hard to see sometimes) and some of the tricks you've put in are clever. The paintinator is also seeing some prime usage

This being said, there's a major problem with the level right now : lag. As soon as we reach the rooms with the VR walls and turrets the game slows down to a crawl.

I can only assume this has something to do with the amount of emitted objects you have and/or the amount of gas and electric hazards, or maybe the amount of paintinator and jetpack powerups? I can't say for sure without more technical knowledge of what's going on behind the scenes. One thing is for sure though, something in the level is slowing the game down.

Aside from that, I kept on playing and found that some of the platforms were too low to the ground and since they have a slight angle on the sides this causes Sackboy to squish himself when he gets near them without jumping.

Finally, although I really really tried, I only managed to get stuck once . I think it was in one of the first rooms with the VR walls, where I jumped in between a triangular black object and a platform on the lower right of the room and managed to squeeze all the way behind the black object. Since it took up all the layers and was quite tall, I was stuck there and had to pop. Since you've abused the Infinite Checkpoints though, this is a very minor thing.

Guess that's all for now. I hope you can find out what's causing the slowdown, it's got me pretty boggled since there's not that much going on in the screen at once.

Simply amazing. I thought I was doing an high profile level but You sir, Donkey Show are not human. I haven't tried out the level yet but i will test it out when my fiance' finished watching her "girly" movie...

But besides that, just looking at the vid. looks overwhelming. and im glade you wasn't lazy and rebuilt the turents from scratch. Me, I got lazy and just slaped the joints I got from the MGS pack. WITH the tanks. I tried building a sentry tank but i couldn't get the treads to stick. Some glitch in the game makes the wheels disappear. but that's another post. and the mech enemy....beautifully done. that is inspiring. Im trying to come up with a boss for my level now as well as some other enemys. and now I might have an idea.

Thank you for doing a well designed level (for what I can see on the vid) now I have to make a boss. excuse me.....*leaves the room "damint why can't I come up with stuff like that"

Guess that's all for now. I hope you can find out what's causing the slowdown, it's got me pretty boggled since there's not that much going on in the screen at once.

It's the lighting and the gas. So many light sources are all over the place and it really jams it. I wanna keep the lighting, but I dunno!!!
