How to Make a Top-Down Ramp?
Archive: 5 posts
Hey all. Umm, kinda hard to explain. Basically, I'm doing a sidescrollling/top down running level. And I was wondering if there were any glitches that slant in/out through the layers(being used for a ramp, when you hit it, you "Jump" - come forward a level and then back) Anyone know anything helpful for this topic? I dunno about physically sloping the level, I don't think you can, but I'm sure somebody will have a remedy somewhere. You can botch it and create the illusion by using stickers (the gradient ones) or by incorporating theck/thack material (partial layered material, plenty of topics floating around with more elaboration) or there may even be some decoration you could use. That's aesthetics but for the logic you need to use in-out movers. The area you wish for the ramp to be, place a tag on it. Have a corresponding tag sensor on your player. When active, activate the mover to push you forward one layer, then when it turns off have another mover drop you back down. If you wish to create a particular 'zone' where the ramp is you can reverse the setup and have the tag on your player and the sensor on the ramp. Then relay that signal wirelessly back to the player's mover. Takes a bit more logic, but also gives you more freedom. | 2011-11-13 17:55:00 Author: Xaif Posts: 365 |
There's actually a skateboard ramp in the story objects, I saw it the other day. No idea where it's from, but I don't think it's DLC since all DLC I have is the GOTY stuff and the pirate pack. It makes a great top down jump. But yeah, just making a stairway of theck-thack would be cool. comphermc's level Data Transfer has some in it. | 2011-11-14 00:16:00 Author: Unknown User |
I'll check that out, Pivott. As for the logic, yeah Cheers, flyinhawaiian | 2011-11-14 01:08:00 Author: flyinhawaiian Posts: 357 |
As you probably already know, an object moving over your top-down surface can only exist in the standard layers and will not occupy anything in between; just to make clear that your car, or whatever it is, will not smoothly drive up a ramp. It will need to use a In/Out Mover and the transition animation of that logic piece is what will determine the steepness of your ramp. Now, for the ramp itself. There is a glitched object (a twisted no-more-player sign post) that allows you to twist objects on the z-axis. Using this with objects constructed of normal materials will result in funkiness, but it works wonders for real objects or decorations stuck to invisible holo. You will have to figure out what object would be great to serve as a ramp surface. I would probably look at real objects first since their surface can be stickered to look like something else. Maybe the Ruler? I am looking for the LBPC topic about this glitched sign post but I am having no luck. It is a (better) alternative to the untethered jetpack glitch; anyone else any luck? If nobody else can help you find this thing, give me a nod on PSN tonight (Stellakris) and I'll show you in Create mode. | 2011-11-14 12:55:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
