How to Make Top-Down Items?
Archive: 8 posts
Hey all. I'm trying to plan a top down level, but don't know how I should go about the top down scenery (i.e. lightposts, etc.) Is there a way to make an item regularly, and turn it, or how to make good looking items, already in a top down view? Any and all help is appreciated. Cheers, flyinhawaiian | 2011-11-09 01:14:00 Author: flyinhawaiian Posts: 357 |
There is a glitch to twist 3D objects, but as for turning custom objects... Not that I have heard of, just patience and clever decorating. | 2011-11-09 02:18:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |
a lot of decorations do allow for a top down view. just play around to discover them | 2011-11-09 05:02:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |
Top down items are abit difficult to make! but if done right can look really good. I have a GTA Topdown View game, if you'd like to play it for some inspration: http://lbp-me.lbp2blog.com/sigs/level/xmp02d/0/0/sig.png (http://lbp.me/v/xmp02d) | 2011-11-09 11:38:00 Author: danx87 Posts: 59 |
Techniques that are of use: - Theck and thack layers (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F7cNqFRgCDw). - Lots of decorations. Use strategic placement of transparent holographic material to your advantage. - If you have the Move pack, then strategic placement of sticker material in combination with (custom made) stickers. - Merge glitch to intersect all kinds of objects together. - Jetpack glitch to proportionally scale objects. - Glitched no-more-players sign post in order to rotate objects towards the camera (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=61757) . - Sticker material (0% brightness, 30-50% opacity) is ideal to create artificial drop shadows on surfaces. If you need that extra bit of trickery to make something look like something it is not, use shadow effects. I wish I had some URLs for you, but I have a tough time finding them myself. | 2011-11-14 13:13:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
I can't remember how to do the top down twist glitch, can someone remind me? Figured it will help the OP too. | 2011-11-14 15:57:00 Author: CYMBOL Posts: 1230 |
I can't remember how to do the top down twist glitch, can someone remind me? Figured it will help the OP too. I have all the tools for it in my popit, but I just cannot find the right tutorial; it was a thread that I think originated in the Everything Else forum as a response to the Jetpack method. Its title had something like "easier alternative" in it. The tools for it were given to me by another player. If I may add to OP's request: also look into the 3D layer glitch. You may want to stick stuff into the layers behind the 7 (3 thick, 4 thin) standard layers to create more depth. For instance, tall structures. Be aware that there are some lighting issues with this, though. http://i8.lbp.me/img/ft/e28bb76cd60da8782ca08ec0f427b0843724363d.jpg EDIT: Here it is!!! (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=61757) The glitched level post object is available as a prize; read down the comments. So you won't have to create it yourself. | 2011-11-14 16:11:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
