Archive: 15 posts

Hiya guys! Here is my first ever 3D animation ^^

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=78pR_I3-k_Q

Old version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBRK1o8qsZk

I know there's a lot wrong with it, but still would love some hard criticism for next time!

That's great, but maybe you should slower down some movements.2011-11-07 06:29:00

I agree.

But other than that, it's awesome.

Especially when the kid nods, it's a bit too fast, unless you want to achieve an effect like in the old Charlie Chaplin movies.
And...it's hard to see where the kid stumbles because of the speed.

That was fun to watch Ali, not sure what to say criticismwise, I guess Omega and SGR has got that covered. Now I know you use Unity for developing your upcoming game 'Don't Fall Asleep", but what exactly do you use for 3d animations, such as this, and to use in "Don't Fall Asleep"? I know you talked some about Blender being cool, but I can't besure whether you used it or something else.2011-11-07 15:00:00

Sweet! I feel I'm hardly capable of criticising much, as I wouldn't begin to imagine the amount of work that goes into something like this - but I can say something:

I love your style, and the humour in the animation - it has the feel of an incredibly short Pixar Short - the same humour I mean.

I'd agree with OS about practising the speed of some animations, but one thing I loved was that axe landing at the end, very sudden and crisp.

Can't wait to see what else you'll be getting up to with Maya - this is a great start!

Thank you very very much! :3

Ive added a new version to the OP (It has only changed the audio, nothing else. I wasn't happy with the previous one!)

Looks really good! I think it's very hard to create 3D animations like that one.2011-11-08 17:07:00

It would be better if the outcome was unexpected.
You could have him land on the handle of the axe the second time he falls and have the rock be a completely stationary object.
When he touches the handle their could be an ominous light above the rock, he gets spooked and steps back a bit and looks up and then around.
He steps forwards and places his hands on the handle, he begins to pull and the handle plops off making him slip and fall off the mountain.
That's even more work though and for what it is now I like it.
