Level Pop Ups - Locked Links vs Sub Levels

Archive: 10 posts

So a pretty basic question that Im a little confused about. I noticed playing a level recently that it linked out to another one and it popped up like they do in story mode.

Now the question is; is there a way to have levels pop up like in story mode after you complete the preceding level.

Hidden until you unlock it? But then re-visitable without playing the first stage again?

Um, in story mode they are all there from the start, but they are locked. All you have to do is place a key in the level to unlock the next one, or a level link (does a level link unlock it forever ? mmm). You can also use the sublevel option, but then the level is never visible on the world map.

In LBP1 I think some levels appeared as you played the previous one, but we can't do this ourselves (yet another tool Mm has and we don't... "we give you the same tools we had" yeah sure)

Yeah that's what I thought... But I was recently playing someone's stages and after finishing one it 'popped in' like the story mode ones sometimes do. I didn't think about it at the time. I guess I'll have to try and work out which level I noticed it on.2011-11-06 20:24:00

you can link levels together just like in the story mode! you have been able to do this since Little big planet 1! Best way to do this is to! is to make the second level locked then put the key to it into the level befor it! possibly even fall down on the players head at the finish screen! or you could possible make it a reward or put a player sensor were the finish screen is so that it is connected to the key & is then collected (though im not sure you can do it with keys, but i know it works with prize bubbles)

But does this mean it is visible on my earth before you unlock it? That's the real question, has anyone noticed this?2011-11-07 01:37:00

Yes it is visible, maybe if you make it a locked level, then make it a sub level too you would get that effect?2011-11-07 01:45:00

Hmm... I guess I'll have to do some testing. I thought it was something I missed, it's not a huge problem. Making stages accessiable as possible is more important, but it would be useful...2011-11-07 05:25:00

Yes you can see it, but it has a padlock on it like story mode! it also gets a line linking them together (just like story mode)

Hope this helps! though the last time i did this was on LBP1, so might be abit rusty on it but im fairly sure its the lock and key thing!

I have a couple of Mario levels that are linked this way on my planet (on the back of my planet) from LBP1, though keep in mind i did those levels along time ago lol! (they are terrible)

Yeah, but LBP1 story levels that were locked were invisible though, that I'm sure.2011-11-09 01:00:00

To be honest, It was so long ago now, I dont remember! best way to do it i guess is to create two blank levels!

Publish the first (lock it), then publish the second with the first ones key in it & a scoreboard, then publish that! and see what happens!
