What do you believe is "truth"?
Archive: 25 posts
So I thought I make a thread that would be fun to discuss ideas and opinions on what you guys can conclude about nature and the Universe. Just anything you believe in or are certain of. | 2011-11-06 01:13:00 Author: comishguy67 Posts: 849 |

Isn't This Nearly the same as "Scientific Discussion"? | 2011-11-06 15:33:00 Author: Valeview Posts: 1581 |
Isn't This Nearly the same as "Scientific Discussion"? This is a philosophic question, but yeah a lot of what's in that thread is more like philosophy anyway. XD | 2011-11-06 16:58:00 Author: Ayneh Posts: 2454 |
It is actually an interesting philosophical point.. What is "truth". Take something that is universally regarded as "true": Such as 1+1=2. All well and good - you can do the same sum as many times as you like and it'll always get the same result. But if you were to break down the constituent parts; eg 1=3/3rds things start to break down. 1/3=0.33...(recurring)% - from here on will be notated as 0.(3) 0.(3) + 0.(3) + 0.(3) = 0.(9) So therefore 1+1 = 1.99....98 ; But of course the "98" is at the end of an infinite chain of 9's. Your world = Rocked Well, I'm not sure if that quite counts, since that's really only because we count in base 10 and thus chose 100% to represent a whole. That's why when I did maths during high school we would always use 1/3 instead of 0.33* otherwise it wouldn't really work. If we were to count in base 12 and use 120% to represent a whole however. | 2011-11-07 00:48:00 Author: SR20DETDOG Posts: 2431 |
Who do you know that represents a whole as 120%? I bet you're one of those people who gives motivational speeches and tells people to give 110%! I blame those pesky Romans and their decimal system! The point I was making is that 1+1 doesn't always = 2. It depends. | 2011-11-07 01:04:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |

Truth is absolute certainty. If you truly believe in something, and are completely certain of something, its the truth, to you at least. There can be multiple truths to a subject/ discussion, depending on the people as well. In a way, "truth" is closer to just being an opinion, or at least that's my opinion. | 2011-11-10 01:43:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
There is no fact. Any proclaimed "truth" is nearly a view. I may see winged beavers flying across the sky. Everyone else may not. They tell me what I see is not there. But it IS there to me. Perhaps the beavers ARE there, but only I see them. But, if no one else can see them, they are not there to them. No, wait. We cannot rely on sight. Seeing is not believing. The blind can know something is there. But then again, is it? Our senses tell us what is and what is not, but can we trust ourselves to know this? Hm... | 2011-11-23 04:24:00 Author: Unknown User |

Now do we all 'interpret' things correctly? Nope. | 2011-11-23 14:15:00 Author: comishguy67 Posts: 849 |
