changing direction timer

ok so i have a timer that slowly depletes over time, when the timer is completely empty, you die, now i want it to work so that when you grab a certain object(like food), it brings your meter but up a little, i could just reset but that would make all the healing items be the same, I want different foods to heal you certain amounts, does anyone know how to do this? | 2011-11-05 02:10:00 Author: jjdragon Posts: 257 |

attach the timer to a direction combiner and set it to speed scale. Now, attach your negative signal (the one taking health away), to the negative pole of that combiner. Then attach the replenishers to the positive one. adjust the signal strength of each to get the proper increments. | 2011-11-05 02:38:00 Author: tdarb Posts: 689 |
got it thanks! and sorry Gribble! I was looking through them and could not find one for this, but i was able to get it working on this one, just needed a way to make the health replenish go up faster than it goes down, which it sounds like this ^ will fix. | 2011-11-05 02:50:00 Author: jjdragon Posts: 257 |

Meh, you do bad promotion. You said to go see the health meter one, but a true comph fan knows the tutorial on feedback loops makes waaaaay better health meters. Timer-based logic always lag because timers aren't precise. http://wiki.lbpcentral.com/Talk:Timer FEEDBACK LOOPS ARE GREAT ! But... By the way, comph made a mistake in the feedback loops, the selector feedback doesn't convert analogue to digital, it just throws the analogue value away. You can see this by combining two batteries to create a positive signal. You see, both analogue and diigital values are transfered trough wires. Analogue : 100 - 30 = 70 Digital : 1 - 1 = 0 The selector won't be activated with that signal of 70% since it has a 0 digital value. Anyways, for your health meter logic, I used comphermc's tutorial about feedback loops (thanks comph!) to build a Health meter toolkit (tools to build health meter logic easily). The v2 will be out this weekend, with a new portal-themed menu ! Yay portal! EDIT : oh, the link is in my signature | 2011-11-05 03:19:00 Author: Unknown User |
wohohowewhay... that's way too advanced for me | 2011-11-05 03:30:00 Author: GribbleGrunger Posts: 3910 |

The v2 will be out this weekend, with a new portal-themed menu ! Yay portal! EDIT : oh, the link is in my signature You're right of course that feedback loops are the most precise, but timers have the distinct advantage of being a built in display mechanism. If you want the most accuracy, then feedback loops are the way to go. If you want a basic health meter with a built in display then timers are best suited. Personally, I would go with timers most times for health bars because you can use the timer itself to display the health bar. Comph's tutorial videos are very very good. They are probably the best resource we have. I have learned a lot from them, but some have key mistakes. One said that a 100% analog signal is the same as a digital 1. That's not true. Digital and analog are handled separately in LBP2. I'm not convinced that any analog signal can be isolated properly enough to allow a completely accurate usage unless someone knows the actual formula for timers, and where the rounding errors are. I came up with one a while back. While it is largely accurate, it does not isolate the rounding errors in the timers themselves. Without that, there is no way to isolate signals for use in feedback loops. | 2011-11-05 04:14:00 Author: tdarb Posts: 689 |
