A new RPG, Aeon Seeds

Hey people!! it's been a while since my last visit but i came up with a brand new idea! (not sure about the word)

my projet is an Rpg based on the "DBA" dynamic battleground action (pure invention^^) :

the charaters a placed on a little battle ground where they can freely move, the actions are simple

when you attack an ennemy, the choosen character will rush on him, and when he's near, attack him

when the characters are attacked they are knocked back like this

the stronger the attack is the stronger they are knocked back

that makes the rpg a lil bit more original, but that's not all, in-battle you can: attack, use magic, retreat and the more important the Manna skills! those skills are very important because they are the reason why i made the DBA, those are used for area damages, when enemies are close to each others you can use them to hit more enemies in one turn

the trick is to take advantage of the terrain, so you can get rid of your opponents as quick as possible!

Story:


in a world between fantasy and steam-punk, three kingdoms fights against the others in order to get the Golden Seeds, those are powerful weapon made by the gods themselves. It is said that the person who'll wield all theses blades will be invincible, each king possess one but the last one of them is missing, the most powerful one... one day, the three kings fought against each others in a 1vs1vs1 battle, the power of the blades was so powerful that the beautiful forest where they fought became nothing more than dust and desolation.
10 years later, when the peace is finally here, Sion, a young master of the Manna, the power of the goddess of imagination, was on his way for the festival of the gods when he meet a strange girl who suddenly ask him to spend the day with her, as she wanted, their day was wonderful, but when the night came, a lot of soldiers came, took the girl and put Sion in jail, when he wakes up, the king himself ask him a favor, being the personal body guard of his daughter, in exchange, Sion and the girl will be free. Meanwhile, one of the kingdom, Elfrit, have started to invade the nearby towns and cause chaos with their new weapons, the peace is about to break...



so what do you think? is it good or do i need to change some things?

I dont understand, is this like action RPG, or semi-Turnbased?

And the story, wait... so the guards kidnap the kings daughter? I am assuming you mean they take her back to the king, but then i dont understand why the king will just let her go free after going though all the trouble he goes through "kidnapping" her. Seems like it needs a bit more to the story..just a little more clarity.

It sounds interesting though, and i cant help, but you have my support. I love RPG games

who said that the girl of the festival is the king's daughter you just mixed up things, and even if the guards where taking back the girl, how could the hero know that she is the princess (god ****it you knew even before the game is out T.T)

and yes it's turn based, well i'm trying to do so XD, by moving freely i mean that they don't go back to the start point, they stay where they attacked

Oh! Sorry, I didnt mean to start guessing at the plot. You dont have to tell me anymore, I see where you are going with this though. And ahh so the battle system is turnbased, that emphases positioning; I like it.

One more question about the battle system, so assuming Manna isnt derived from "Mana", is this going to function like MP , or is there more to this system?

nope it's manna from "To Thanatos, Fumigation from Manna" an Orphic hymn, one day i start to read things about Greek mythology and when a saw this name, i kinda fell in love for it, that's why it's the name of a goddess and a type of skill, it's not mana

the manna is more like a... passive skill, manna and magic are different, magic uses the elements, manna use the mind, the imagination, the more you can imagine the stronger you are. for example: if i imagine a huge blaze in front of me, i'll use my Manna to make it appear, if i want to teleport behind my enemy, i can use my manna in order to do it
but if you could do that when you want in the game it would be too much powerful, so i'll use it as a "limit break" like in ff7 and 8 etc... or as a special ability, like kain's jump in ff 4

Well Jump in FF 4 was infinite from what I remember. Having an "Manna gauge" separate from MP seems more suitable for the task you described than simply a limit break--much like a stamina gauge I suppose, unless they are just uber powerful abilities. Whatever's the case they do need more restrictions if they are powerful, so yea could be limit breaks or cooldowns even. Idk its up to you really. Whatever works...

Do you have more than one party member or is this just focused on Ein?

to start there will be only ein, then an katana/aoten's king fanboy (Aoten is ein's kingdom/country) and the princess but she will be weak at the beginning (teaching her to fight is the only way ein will find so she wont slow him down x) ) but the max will be 3 party member. thus there will be a lot of character but a lot of them will only be guests instead of party member

yes, the jump was infinite, but it takes a lot of time to activate, that's why i was thinking about that

the battle system won't be a TBC one anymore, a time based combat system is easier to do for me and it fits more my DBA system

it looks a little bit like valkyrie profile's battle system:

but i'm wondering if i should create sprites for the battles (with sticker panel of course) or if i should stay with the bots, what do you think ?

Well Time-based Battle systems, it really depends on what type you are trying to do. You still have to organize the actions of characters and enemies into turns if you are going for something like FF IV-FF IX, and its not really easier since you have to do the logic for characters acting in turns still--unless its sort of like FF X-2 or FF XIII where characters and enemies do not respect turns. That's pretty easy to do. Turnbased battle systems like Nobodys RPG for example are pretty simple, if you stay away from trying to add things like Agility, and Haste/Slow spells. In fact, thats as simple as a selector dictating turns--most people over complicate them. Something like Final Fantasy X's CTB in LBP2 is brains, really hard to pull off having every turn respond to different variables..but I wont even get into that lol



Whatever works, just go with it,( I will be one of the first to play it) you can always make the other systems for different games. But I do hope you explore more traditional turnbased in the future though

I actually wanted to do sprites in a future RPG--so if you could do that, I would love to see how that works out. Sackbots are cool, but the potential of animations with sprites, has more room for creativity I think.

Hey man, since I'm already helping you out with the menus and what not I figure I'll throw my name in the hat to give you some help with the battle system. Whenever we're both on I'll show you my turnbased system and you can take it or leave it. Also, from what I've seen so far I would think it'd be better if you went with a Turn Based system, but thats my personal opinion really.

Anyhow I'll be on here in a bit.

Well yeah, I wont be going another RPG series for maybe another 6 months lol I still have to finish my first one. I was curious to see how it would look. And its not my idea or anything, if you want to do it, go for it! I think its cool.

naah i think i'll only try for the GCs, making battle sprite is too hard, i'll do some painting, it's funnier and more original !

anyway, i'm kinda stuck for the hp system, should i make a common hp bar or a HPb for each characters? i can't decide.

oh by the way do you guys know someone who is good with music sequencers cuz i'm kinda lame with this things

You should definately do sprites. It would be cool to see a fighting level made in lbp2 using just sprites and no sackpeople..
You can take pics of the sprites you make, put on sticker panel and use slice tool(Not corner editor or sticker cutter) to quickly take away everything but pixels.

If you need sprites/want to hijack sprites from other games/want the sprites to that game video you posted, spriters resource has a looooot of sprites.( All of them are from video games)

i thought about using sprites and i know very well spriters-resource but i want my own you know, not some sprite ripped of some rpg, i want to create my own but it takes too much time, to create + animate them. So until i find a good way to do quick animations for the cut scenes, i won't try sprites

ahah, that's funny, before i had this project "in my head" i was try to do some rayman animation and i was using that method, and later i tried with paintings.

Fighting.
Everyone uses sackpeople because its easy but its really limiting if you want to do swordfighting or gun battles or well...anything. If you make your own characters you can make them do whatever you want.(Or whatever you have the ability to paint or make out of material & stickers)

I said sprites simply because if you would want to use ones from spriters resource it would be easier/faster than having to come up with original characters, figure out the poses you want, then actually paint each pose.

I'm back from my lil "vacations" and i'm working once again on this project. I've decided to make it an A-rpg (like a "tales of" game to be more precise) since i've lost everything, i really dont feel like doing everything again >.> (believe me, i had a LOT of stuff). i'm also revising the looks of the heroes :

So yeah, i know it's not a lot but it's better than nothing XD. I also realised that it will be a lot more difficult than what i thought and figured out that it'll be impossible alone, so i'm asking clearly (since the subliminal message didn't worked XD)

Hi guys i'm back ^^

-i almost finished Sion's battle system, only have the Health bar and the skills left.

-i was wondering, is anyone interrested in doing battle-quotes? cuz if i do everyone's voices, it'll be kinda lame y'know >.>

the first chapter's script is almost finished, which means that i'll soon be able to start creating the first level yay! well not before i finish Sion's battle system >.>
