Cuzco's Music Sequencer Instruments Review

Archive: 8 posts

These are my thoughts of the current instruments in LittleBigPlanet 2.

Yellow - Keys
--
Keys: Honkytonk Piano; Old timey music? Not my type, but perfect for creating styles involving it.
Keys: Piano; Yes, recommended. It sounds realistic to me, and if you change the timbre just right, it sounds perfect.
--
Green - Percussion
--
Percussion: 8-Bit Kit; NINTENDO MUSIC!! It tells me you can make the exact same notes of those classic nintendo games on LBP.
Percussion: Acoustic Kit; Nice. The bass drum, snare, toms, hi-hat, and crash seem perfect. The ride... It's okay, but I want the ride bell inside it.
Percussion: Baiyon Kit; Unique e-drums, though the "cymbals" aren't really that realistic...
Percussion: Beatbox Kit 1; It's okay, but...yeah.
Percussion: Beatbox Kit 2; Meh...No, not really my type
Percussion: Synth Kit; The bass drum isn't really that good, but the rest are perfect.
Percussion: Synth Perc. Kit; I recommend this once too; Perfect for claps, shakes, tambourines, etc.
--
Red - Plucked
--
Plucked: Bass Guitar; What's a song without low notes? This helps for the low notes I need for my songs to sound perfect.
Plucked: Col Legno; No. Just...no. They should have stuck with Violin Spiccato. It would be a more realistic stringed instrument than this.
Plucked: Double Bass Pizzicato; What if I had to make a song with strict rules? Like...no electric instruments? Or synths? Don't worry, this will save the day.
Plucked: Ektara; Well...Maybe. I haven't used it yet, but...
Plucked: Electric Guitar (Muted); Hm...The style it fits in is old timey music, like the honkytonk. I'm working on a song this style, actually.
Plucked: Electric Guitar (Distorted); The actually okay electric guitar for me. I'd recommend it for the rock music you create.
Plucked: Electric Guitar Power Chords; Not really THAT useful. It does sound good when I change the timbre...but it turns out, you'll discover this is a SHARPER version of the distorted guitar! Who knew? XD
Plucked: Harp; If Tamika from 'Class Of 3000' was actually a real-life person who used the LBP music sequencer, I think she'd go for this. IT DOES sound okay, actually.
Plucked: Koto; The Japanese would appriciate this. It's okay. I mean, I didn't use it yet, but...
Plucked: Nylon Str. Guitar; Who wants to make a LBP version of Still Alive from Portal? I do. And this is just what I need.
Plucked: Strings Legato; Something I don't get; WHY is this in the PLUCKED section? It could have it's own section, like "Orchestral', but what'll become of the wind section? XD Anyway, I guess this works, yet the real vibe is when it's very high pitched, like a violin.
Plucked: Strings Pizzicato; Your bow is smashed in half, and you want to use your stringed instrument, but you can't afford a new bow. What do you do...? Pluck the strings instead! Yeah, pretty good as well.
--
White - SFX
--
SFX: Baiyon Guildford; Complicated...
SFX: Baiyon Kyoto; Ironically, complicated as well.
SFX: Record Static; For old-timey once again. You know that static you hear when a record is playing? Use this to bring it out like you are in 1930.
--
Cyan - Synth
--
Synth: Baiyon Bass 1; No...not quite. There's not enough notes. If only it was possible to change it's pitch, then it could be useful for all songs that go at a minor scale, but...No. This one isn't good.
Synth: Baiyon Bass 2; No. Too compicated. There's no sustaining the melody of the notes... Actually... THERE IS! I'm actually into this one. It's the star of one of my songs, actually.
Synth: Baiyon Shiny; This one is, like, the only Baiyon instrument (other then the 'Percussion: Baiyon Kit' that makes SENSE to use. It's tunable, and that sound isn't on a keyboard you might have. It's okay.
Synth: Baiyon Tinkle; Baiyon, why must you make complicated instruments? The tuning just won't do for this one. The only Baiyon Instruments I would use are the drums, and the shiny synth. (And, at certain points I feel, the Baiyon Bass 2.)
Synth: Bell; Pretty good.
Synth: E-Piano; This is pretty good too. I called this an electric vibraphone, cause...it sounds like one.
Synth: Ghost; G-ghost?! WHERE?!! ... HAAHAHAHAHAHA!! XD Just kidding. I haven't used it yet, but I think it might be good.
Synth: Harpsichord; Great. I actually like this one, it's used in...63% of my songs in progress. (I didn't release one yet, though.)
Synth: Mime Artist; Meh. Not good, nor bad. I didn't use it yet, but...
Synth: Mosquito; Good thing I have my fly swatter! XD Anyways. Yeah, this sound is good too.
Synth: Noise; Whhhhooooosshhheeoooowwwwhhoooaaaaaaaoowwwwwmmm... .. Also pretty good.
Synth: Pulse Wave; I never seen this wave on an analog scope, but this is okay.
Synth: Ray Gun; Yeah, baby! SYNTH BASS! Nice sound as well.
Synth: Robot; Sound a bit like saw wave, yet I haven't used this yet.
Synth: Saw Wave; Sound a bit mini. This one is okay.
Synth: Sine Wave; It's also good.
Synth: Space Piano; Hm... It's okay, but I can't seem to figure out that icon! It is an alien?? A UFO? I don't know...
Synth: Square Wave; My favorite wave. It's perfect for making one note move up to another.
Synth: Strings; Pretty awesome, too. The real vibe for this one is when you link multiple timbres together on the notes you put in this one.
Synth: Tennis; A tennis ball as an instrument? ... HAHAHAHAHAHA!! XD That's quite silly, but as a synth instrument... I guess it's okay.
Synth: Triangle Wave; Sounds like a blurry sine wave and square wave together. Good as well.
Synth: Woodpecker; Hm... I haven't used it yet, but I think this might be okay.
Synth: Worm; Same description as Woodpecker.

Blue - Tuned Percussion
--
Tuned Percussion: Glass Harmonica; Sound like an "over-reverbed" flute. It's meh...
Tuned Percussion: Glockenspiel; Realistic, I must admit. Nice sound, too.
Tuned Percussion: Kalimba; From Africa. NO RACISM ALLOWED. Anyway, this works for me
Tuned Percussion: Marimba; Get's me into a vibe of...safari. XD I think this one is pretty great too.
Tuned Percussion: Music Box; Familiar to glockenspiel. It's meh, but...
Tuned Percussion: Tubular Bells; Wow, these are great for dance music.
Tuned Percussion: Vibraphone; I LOVE IT! It's my favorite, and the star instrument of one of my songs known as; "We Will Carry On The Beat Now". I recommend this.
--
Pink - Voice
--
Voice: Choir Aahs; No, this doesn't really work. However, it DOES sound like a realistic organ. Maybe it is good??
--
Pink (Again) - Wind
--
Wind: Bassoon; This instrument sounds unique to me sometimes. I think I like this one.
Wind: Brass; Er...good, I guess?
Wind: Clarinet; Now this is a woodwind that I like. Recommended.
Wind: Concertina; I don't get why this is in the wind section. I didn't research it yet, actually. I guess this is good.

So, there you have it. Most of them are pretty good, yet a few suck. XD ~BlockyCuzco

Well... Gee... Good job? How long did it take you to do this? Looks like you spent a lot of time on this thing... Did you do it for anything?2011-10-31 17:45:00

Every time I see something like this, it inspires me to go make a new masterpiece. I hop on LBP2 and load up the music sequencer and after two hours have something that sounds not entirely unlike an out of tune music box that's been bashed dropped in a pool. I wish I could make music.2011-10-31 23:36:00

I find the Harp is usefull for a kind of "alternative base". The same with Mime Artist, which I also quite like. Ray Gun is obviously awesome. If anyone wants to hear a retro/synthy remix of the classical song, Turkish March, it's available in my most recent level as a prize. It uses a combo of Ray Gun, Mime Artist, Baiyon drums and Sin Wave, a little bit similar to Fersterd_Jester's stuff.

Some of the new instruments sound pretty cool, I'm tempted to get the Move pack just for that.

The baiyon instruments suck because baiyon doesnt want to make the complex timing in songs or something, so instead they made them play multiple notes. DO NOT WANT.

Also, the glass harmonica can sound epic when high and when quickly changing timbre's.

The tennis synth sounds EXTREMELY EPIC when in the high notes and in reverb.

And the space piano, when using that with changing the size of notes to make a fading effect (see my song "Symphony of the nightosphere) It sounds pretty cool.

Oh yeah, space piano's logo is a spaceship.

"The baiyon instruments suck because baiyon doesnt want to make the complex timing in songs or something, so instead they made them play multiple notes. DO NOT WANT." Hm, thats what you think. I'm actually able to tune the synths, actually. And the drums are good. The SFX, contrarily, are too complicated though, so I don't think THEY'LL be used until I'm a FULL EXPERT at the music sequencer. I can help you with tuning the synths if you want.

"Also, the glass harmonica can sound epic when high and when quickly changing timbre's." It DOES sound good that way, I'll admit THAT.

"The tennis synth sounds EXTREMELY EPIC when in the high notes and in reverb." Yeah, it's okay in any way. (I made a rhyme! )

"And the space piano, when using that with changing the size of notes to make a fading effect (see my song "Symphony of the nightosphere) It sounds pretty cool." To me, it sounds good when the one note point goes though multiple pitches to reach another, like a robotic synthesizer.

"Oh yeah, space piano's logo is a spaceship." For some reason, I always see it as an alien. My mind does start to see if as a spaceship, but...XD
