The junior is white, awesome, and also a great friend. The boy gets stuck having to choose between the two girls. Give your ideas and plot twists you come up with... Well what kind of twist can you put on a plot like this that no one has seen before? You could do the Catherine thing and leave it up to players, but if you want a linear story plot, I think you are going to have to make the main character a "jerk." Hold that thought for a moment... The thing is, you haven't really told us which one he finds more attractive--attraction is very important in love plots even though its sometimes never the deciding factor. We need more details on the boy and the girls, since ethnicity and grade years are irrelevant when it comes to making a relationship. Maybe the freshmen girl a really good athlete, and he likes girls that play sports, and his friend that is a junior is more mature classic school girl, perhaps prettier( Maybe he just likes her boobs) but less interesting or vise versa. Whatever you decide, making the character simply choose between one or the other is...well boring. Unless you make the players care about all these characters first. It could turn into a great plot, but it seems like the characters need a bit more thought. Once you do that, there are tons of plot twist you could throw in, like maybe he decides to date both of them at the same time and ends up getting dumped by both of them at the end. Or one anime i watched had the main character go back to one girl and ditch the other one. But the one he ditched came to his house and killed him--and then the girl the guy chose killed the girl he ditched and carried the main characters head away on a boat lol Of course you dont need anything obscure like that, but there are some interesting things you can do once you establish the characters more. Make us care/know more about these characters, then it will be way easier to do plot twist. Most Romantic plots fall into three categories( Could be missing some, haven't read much romance lately) Romeo and Juliet--A constant love quarrel between a guy and a girl, that usually ends in tragedy Hollywood Romance--Usually a guy or girl deciding between two love interest, usually ending in the two "soul mates" getting together. Comedic--Love only serves as a tool for comedy, in essence, it uses the Hollywood romance and puts funny twist on them--usually resulting in unpredictable outcomes.

Now I simply have to go and watch that again! As for the OP, I can understand you probably feel a little lost, perhaps a bit overwhelmed even, at the possibilities of where a plot can take you - but my best advice is this: take what rpg maker has advised you about the varying archetypal romances, and read around a little. watch some movies, tv shows, read some books or plays - find different ideas that you like. then twist them, make them your own. All being said and done, no story is going to be interesting unless it is told from your heart and soul - a clinical plot idea born from a forum thread is unlikely (not impossible, but just unlikely) to turn into a story you'll be passionate about telling. Whilst advice is never a bad thing, make sure that the story you tell is your own.
