Game camera question

Archive: 7 posts

i have set up a situation where sackboy pulls a switch and the camera turns so you can see the door it opens. i've used a game camera. it works perfectly except when the door is closed and the camera returns to normal... it just leaps back to sackboy. i want it to pan. i know you can do this with the movie camera but doesn't that crop the top and bottom of the screen? i haven't had time to do it yet my son's killing demons in Dark Souls as i type. could i resolve this issue by using a sequencer? would it work if i overlayed two camera? one to the door and one back to sackboy? would that effectively create a smooth transition?2011-10-28 23:17:00

Transitions and game cameras are harder to deal with. Movie cameras can be set to allow movement, which will not crop the screen. You can place two cameras in a row and connect the first one to the second one, then set the settings as you wish. I don't use that a lot, but setting a second camera to follow player and to pan should make it pan to the player position after the video of the first camera. You can also try using sequencors. Since pictures are worth 1000 words, I send you comphermc's work. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4UaPCFkfTM&feature=channel_video_title)2011-10-29 03:02:00

Pivott is right. I think the setting you want to have is not disabling controls. That can be tricky, but if it is just a quick cut (or you are using a controlinator with them disabled already), it shouldn't be a problem.2011-10-29 03:53:00

yeah, it's a very simple hard pan and then a soft pan back i want... nothing spectacular but it would just make it look a tad more professional. using sequencers definitely seems to be the way to do it best.

Have you tried overlapping the cameras then putting a short 2 second camera set to track back to the player? This way the overlapping parts act as a transition and the cameras that are set to track back to the player means that it slowly eases back to the players view. Have a look at my set up used, this may help and good for a quick reference:

The camera at the start and end are for 2 seconds causing a smooth transition back to the player. Each camera is overlapping by 2 seconds. As pivott said you can get rid of the black bars by not disabling the players controls.
