i just loaded my level in and it says the level is too complex. a lot of the materials are replaced with exclamation marks. the thing is there is no way that my level is too complex. so, is this a normal little glitch that you occasionally get because i just reloaded the game and it's not there now

What do you mean by loaded the level? Published? Are you seeing that message in playmode? Cause that would be uncommon. In create mode, it typically happens with lots of corners on screen at once. Typically, zooming in a bit makes it disappear.

Typically, zooming in a bit makes it disappear. this was in create mode. so it's just a little glitch because i was zoomed out? the material still had the physics because i was stood on some of it! i made a copy just in case. it seems to be ok now but it's made me weary. can you confirm that this little glitch won't delete anything for good?

it's not a glitch, it's a system preventing the ps3 from crashing. Try do use the corner edit and remove some corners (and dont paint with circles)

It doesn't delete anything. It's just a warning. Most times, if you have a lots of decs, stickers, and/or complex patterns its not a big deal. But the further you zoom out the camera in an area with complex designs, LBP warns that it has a potential to have problems. One problem could be lag in that area of the game. However, most times, the only reason the camera is so far out is because you've pulled it way back in createmode to see your level better. I've had that display a hundred times, not a huge deal. Next time you see that displayed, just slowly zoom in and watch the warning and the exclamation points disappear. Nothing is being deleted.

Note that it does sometimes cause things to be deleted. I didn't think it did, but on one certain level I've had it where the complicated message has appeared and I've thought nothing of it, yet it has caused something in a completely different part of the level to go poof! I noticed this after saving too, and it has happened more than once. It would be wise to have a quick scan over your level when the complicated message does appear to make sure nothing's been destroyed. Or make multiple backups of your level at different intervals.

thanks guys my mind is 'more or less at rest now'... it hasn't happened again and i have made a backup just in case.
