Best Bots of LBP2

Archive: 9 posts

Sackbots were an amazing new addition to LBP2. They can be used as unique controllable players, actors in films, NPCs and enemies. I only have one sackbot controlled level myself and it's far less intricate than some I have in projects in my moon.
I'm sure someone has posted a thread on this but what are some of the best player controlled sackbot levels you have seen and what makes the bots in them so unique?

I'l start with a few of my personal favorites.

Of course I'l have to mention Hazbell's popit sackbot. Bringing such a detailed and close resemblance of a create mode sackperson into a playable level. While more of a tech demo and showcase of this impressive bot than a full blown adventure. It still was and is quite a feat. i was sold when working logic could be placed and used just as in the bot it was used in

Comphermc's Fourth Wall and Wizard bots have some interesting features. The bot in The Wizard has some really cool and intuitive parcour abilities like many free running bots with an additional rapid fire and charge casting abilities. I love how the attacks are animated and how easily controllable the bots movement abilities are.
The fourth wall bot also had some interesting features. While it being an appropriately slow and sackperson like controlling sackbot, the edge grabbing and ladder climbing aesthetics were an interesting feature and fit well into the Limbo style gameplay.

Ion Pulsar has 2 of my absolute favorite bots. The tribal characters in Enter the Wilds are just so innovative. The knockback effects are both humorous and well implemented. The ability to pick up weapons such as throwing daggers is a nice addition to the included 4 standard abilities. The one thing that sets this whole level apart from other sackbot controlled levels is that it supports up to 4 player co-op!
The Wizard Did It bot is my definite favorite. As far as regular movement is concerned, the only differences is the inclusion of a double jump. What makes this bot truly one of a kind is the masses of spells it has. Fire, ice, acid, wind and insight all with 3 different uses each and such great platforming integration with the use of them. The level was the tutorial and first segment of a series that will probably never be finished but an incredible bot to say the least.

DajDaj03's Arabesk bot is a great one too. The controls are simple and intuitive enough for those who don't like too intricate of bots and still delivers some solid gameplay. I had Arabesk queued forever and only recently saw this awesome character. It's a shame I waited. The thing that stood out with this one was the swinging sword animations especially to the right side of the screen (which is kinda hard to make look good since all sackbots are right handed and face forward) and the deflecting of projectiles was just great! They way it had such a dynamic effect on the environment was really cool too.

Ninjamicwz's Go Bot Must Go bot is a very unique one. A turn based bot in which each turn you are allowed a certain "blocks" of movement and conditional abilities. This was something totally new and very intricate.

Early in LBP2 was Alic44's knights bots featured in Knight vs. knight and The Knights: The Lost hero were really well made for how early they were published. They were the first bots I ever saw with collision detection, knock back and blocking abilities and then shown how to imitate these effects in very instructive tutorials.

I'l never forget seeing beta videos of polloizarraraz43's Marvel vs Capcom vs Sony bots. A fighting game with a ton of them packed into it. Each character is unique with punches, kicks, a projectile and 2 supers that follow real side scrolling fighting games button commands.

There are actually a lot less levels with unique sackbots in them than I would have ever thought.. and I'm sure I am missing a few truly amazing ones. Anyone else have any bots to add? I would love to see them

Fotosynthesis1 Steam Team (http://lbp.me/v/z2rjfz) was one of my favorites. I loved the different abilities each of them had and being able to switch back n forth between them. There are some other bots that I just can't recall right now2011-10-27 21:16:00

Well, you covered basically every one I could think of, Dortr. Surely I've seen much more but those are the most memorable. IonPulsar's "Turf War: 2096" are quite cool too, the way they can pick up different weapons lying around in the battlefield.

Possibly the best "co-op sackbots" I've seen are the ones in this level: http://lbp.me/v/xt9sqn

I pretty dislike bots.
I totally feel them clanky, laggy and totally unrensponsive, then they behave strangely in the envyronment.
The very first 2 steps I do in a level really set me in the mood, because they're enough to make me understand if I'm controlling my 'boy or a 'bot.
Except GoBot, that is "purposedly" lagged, I think that only IonPulsar's bot satisfied me and gave me a 100% slick experience.
Oh, and Slurm's level works nicely too.

I really think MM should give players the ability to customize the sackboy commands instead of passing through the controllinator.

omega, can you give us links to those levels?

Well, one of Slurm's level is MMpicked like Ion's A Wizard Did It, GO BOT MUST GO! (http://lbp.me/v/4jdf5x)
Oh, and also Shamgar's latest level had a responsive bot, MMpicked too.

I want to add that I'm REALLY picky about controls in games, I can't stress it enough (I consider Assassin's Creed, GTA, Red Dead Redemption really sluggish for example. I still enjoy them, but I can't stand the controls. Perfect controls=Bayonetta, Devil May Cry, Ninja Gaiden, God Of War...games where the imput lag is really minimum)
