making objects dissolve when shot

Archive: 9 posts

Hey everyone
Im basically just trying to create a fun level with the paintgun but i cant figure out how to make objects dissolve when shot.
I know i can have them explode by putting a trigger explosive on it but that's not what i want - i want them to be like the pratice ones are in the 2nd metalgear level...
sorry, i have a hard time explaining things!

Hope someone can help..
thank you

Well, the object has to be made of dissolve material. The Paint Switch has to be attached to the dissolve material. That's basically how it goes. If you want it to look different, use the Cow glitch, or use stickers.

EDIT: Nevermind, the Cow glitch was patched. It doesn't work anymore.

It doesn't have to be dissolve material. Just put a protected brain onto the object where it's not visible. Link the paint switch to it and set it to One Shot. This will destroy the brain, making the object dissolve. I didn't know this worked before, figured it out from the MM objects ^^. If there's no non-visible place for the brain, you'll have to use stickers I guess.

I just had an idea.. this is probably the way to make gas dissolve, as every switch will (probably) work that way.

What is/was the cow glitch?

What is/was the cow glitch?

A glitch that allowed you to disguise your materials into other materials. Visually, but still have the original mass, density, etc.

Basically, you can make it look like glass is floating, when it was technically dark matter, disguised as glass.

It's all patched up now, so it doesn't really matter.

As to stay ONTOPIC : I thought you weren't able to shoot protective brains?

Yeah, you can't shoot them or jump on them, but that's what they're for. They can only be destroyed with a one shot switch linked to the brain. So if you link a paint switch to a protected brain and set it to one shot, then the object it's attached to will disappear. That's how MM made those tanks. You can also come up with different ways to kill bad guys other than shooting/jumping on them that way. I wish they would fix the "vulnarable" option though.

Edit: Btw. the gas dissolving works! The brain makes gravity effect the gas, but that can be fixed with some dark matter/rods etc.

I've noticed that if you have an object of dissolvable material that has a paint switch attached to it so that when you soot it, it disappears. Sometimes even when you hit it softly (like for example if it was moving away from you and you shoot it but its not a big impact as the object is moving away fast) then It sometime doesn't dissolve even though you have hit it and the paint splashes after impact.
Just noting it to everyone as it is a bit annoying for the game I am making when it happens
