Affixing Overlays With Cinema In Background

Archive: 3 posts

Presently I am doing this "The Hard Way".

I have a HUD design that I created that must remain fixed in it's location for a certain timeframe...that's not the issue. But I also want to be able to pan and cut to different scenes in the background while the HUD stays in the foreground.

With that in mind, I think it would be great if there was a new feature added to the Movie and Game cameras that allowed us to assign a camera as either foreground or background, and have the foreground camera view capable of being overlayed on the background camera view for a period of time we could control. To simplify this, the background camera view could be converted to video, being nothing more than an image or images, rather than being solid objects. Another camera feature that could address this would be a record mode, just like recording a video. The video could play in the background, while the solid objects of the level remain in the foreground.

Please add this feature Mm.

Could anyone else use this feature?

well, your description is fairly confusing to me, but am i right in thinking you would like to be able to have a camera which points at something in the level and makes it visible over the top of everything else in the level?

eg i make a HUD in the top left corner of the level, and wherever i go as long as the HUD stays in the same place it would be visible to me? sounds really cool, i like this idea. i could definitely see it working with the new sticker panel material

That is basically what I mean skalio-. The HUD must remain ON screen, and center in my case. I have designed a way to do this, a bit complex, but having a specific camera feature to do this instead would make the task much easier. I can think of numerous applications for this.

From a software perspective, it is doable. And, when you consider how the camera cross-fade works, it appears most of the coding is actually there, but not in the form of a dedicated camera feature.
