xkappax sings "You Know What I Mean"

Archive: 7 posts

A short movie level showcasing my cover version of the classic "You Know What I Mean" by Cults.

Forum veterans might recognise the character (xkappax's Box Ghost) and the setting (my 60's style American Diner from Sackboy Proves He's Got Stuffin&apos.

Many thanks to xkappax for bringing this song to life. If you like it then please let her know, since I'm sure she'll be happy to know she's appreciated.

Here's the original song, for those who don't know it...

WOW! Tbh I was expecting to hear oasis lol but wow. Never heard the song before and I'm glad now that I have. Kappa was brilliant singing it and she made it her own, excellent choice of song m8 and the set was made well too. Kudos to the two of you. I might even try doing one now, Sackstar ftw lol2011-10-26 10:57:00

I am wondering whether Ungreth could have gotten any luckier drafting Kappa for this song. This is her song and I love her rendition of it.2011-10-26 14:56:00

Thank you, guys. The brilliant thing about this particular song is that the lyrics go very well with what's been going on in my life lately. I've been really down because of my recent health problems, and singing this has been very therapeutic.2011-10-26 15:05:00

Lol, it wasn't pure luck though was it, Antikris? I've gotta thank you for recommending xkappax.

In retrospect, I don't believe that anyone else could have performed this song so perfectly. Like xkappax said, she connected personally with the song and I think it really shows. I was absolutely stunned when she returned her recorded vocals to me for mixing, and I was left with absolutely no doubt that I had made the right choice.

I hope that the great feedback she's received should help to boost her confidence, although I also think that her emotional fragility is a vital characteristic that makes her voice so compelling...

...so let's not lay TOO much praise on her, hey folks.

Oh my I forgot there was a thread here! My bad!

Sent a tweet to kappa about this the other day but thought I'd re-iterate it here.

You both seemed to work really well together on this project! Great transcription of the music by yourself Ungreth - the levels and instrument choices are spot on, and the synch works wonderfully - not a single note off time

Kappa, I've told you many times how much I love your voice. You have a sweet innocence (actually I think ungreth describes it perfectly above) in your vocal tone which really draws me. I'm always intrigued by unique singing voices, and I love all of the songs I've heard you sing so far, this is no exception.

Great work both of you - It's so lovely to see more good levels like this pop up!
