A New Community Contest: "The Hard Way"

WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT?
You're probably asking "what do you mean by The Hard Way". Well, the intent of this contest is to submit something humorously entertaining that depicts doing something "The Hard Way"...the more absurdly hard (while keeping it good clean fun), the better. It's also designed to bring Writers, Artists and LBP Level Creators together in a unique and friendly forum setting to share their awesome talent in their contest-related genre of choice, with the added benefit of winning some XP. The idea is to have some fun while expanding your appreciation for art in it's various forms.

Contest #1:
Writing:
(Is it okey if i use to hard way things in one story?)
Sackboy was walking along to his meeting. He had a meeting on the 9th floor of an unamed building. This meeting was with MM to talk about upgrading sackboy's abilities. Sackboy was stuck in traffic. rather than waiting, he decided to get out, pick the car up and throw it to the front of the traffic Jam. He got out and remembered he needed Grabinators to pick it up. He then searched every shop and eventually, after 3hours of searching, found some.
He then Returned to his car. He saw there was no traffic jam anymore, so he went and put the grabinators back. He then hopped in his car and drove to the unamed building.
Once there, he reached the ninth floor and saw the door was closed! "Oh no!" he thought to himslef, thinking it was locked. He saw an open window, and decided to climb out, and go into the meeting room via another window. when outside, he realized the gap was too big to jjump, so went back into the building to get a grappling hook.
He swung across the gap, and he was about to enter when * *Bang!* he hit into the closed window! The people inside saw him and allowed him inside. Once inside he saw the door was open!
He chatted to the staff about new upgrades, and realised after all he had gone through, there was no need for more! the current ones would be just fine!

And, your above contest submission is appropriate. Thanks for entering, and good luck.

bio...you hit the nail on the proverbial head. I was wondering how long it would take someone to correlate this contest to Rube Goldberg. But I have gone beyond just machines, and added another dimension...Writing. I am curious to see what may unfold here.

With that being said, bio has established there is a baseline reference you might consider before getting started.

Does this count? I know it is kind of werid...

Once upon a time, there was a box on a hill. Sackboy soon spawned out of the entrance next to it, and tried to push it down the hill to activate the tag sensor. However, the box was made of stone so he couldn't. He then got his friend MM to change the box to sponge in a 4.5 yottabyte patch. But, the tag sensor range was off on the sensor, so he had to tweak it using another 4.5 yottabyte patch. By that time, everyone had quit playing LBP 2 due to these huge patches and was back to creating in LBP 1. So, Sackboy?s level was useless. But he got it down the hill thanks to MM. Moral of the story? Remember to tweak your sensors kiddies!

Yes Undarivik, yours counts as an entry. I believe there was some level of difficulty for you to create the story, it has a humorous element, and the story describes doing something difficult.

Thanks for entering, and good luck.

I hate to be nitpicky, but a 4.5 kilobyte patch is really tiny. Maybe change kilobyte to Gigabyte
I have an idea for this Rick and my try to implement something

After a hard days work, Little Jimmy decided to rest in his favorite chair in his room. But Little Jimmy forgot to turn off his light. Fatigued from work, Little Jimmy tried reaching the light switch with objects around his room including his wooden sword and guitar, but none could reach it. He even constructed a pole from a paper stack nearby, but it was too flimsy to work. He even attempted to throw multiple objects at the switch but poor Little Jimmy's aim isn't his best talent. All that was left near Little Jimmy was the stack of papers and a few inches of string. What could Little Jimmy do? "Ahah! I'll make a paper crossbow that can shoot with enough force to flip the switch!". Countless hours of trial and error passed until he finally perfected a working crossbow. Much to his surprise.... even after hitting the top dead on, it failed miserably. Admitting defeat, Little Jimmy simply stood up, walked 5 feet across the room, and flipped the switch himself. Goodnight Little Jimmy. ;D

@ bio...looking forward to your idea being implemented here. The competition is getting fierce, so you better have your tinkin cap on!

@ iKnowAGhost...thank you for your entry. It has all the elements required for this contest, and obviously took some thought. Just an observation--I think had Little Jimmy waited to use his wooden sword until after he created the paper crossbow, the outcome would have been significantly different...you know, like a thud against his shoe and then resulting in a miserably failed attempt.

I did change it, but not to Giga. Yottabytes are a septillion bytes, compared to only a billion bytes.

Contest 1: Writing.

Sackboy is ina meeting with Larry Davinci.

Davinci: Ok Sackboy, I need you to get more people to play my levels, so that I remain the favourite curator.

Sackboy agrees to this. Sackboy begins to leave the room when Larry also says

Davinci: & Please ensure that no one gets hurt this time

Sackboy sighs. Upon leaving the hideout, sackboy notices a huge billboard with clive handforth on it and the words ?Play Bang for Buck, It's a Hoot and a Half? which is 40 ft above the ground

Sackboy picks up the paintanator and begins to shoot the billboard, but they do not reach, and fall back towards the ground. Sackboy begins to ponder how can he get rid of the billboard. Sackboy runs to the garage of Davinci?s hideout and emerges driving a wrecking ball vehicle. He begins to smash the wrecking ball into one of the legs of the billboard, but does nothing. Sackboy gets out of the vehicle and examines the leg of the billboards. It has a Anti-Gravity tweaker on it with dampening at 100%.

Sackboy then gets his popit out, but it has been affected by a virus, so the popit shoots out of control. He closes it and heads back to the hideout?s IT department. He downloads Avalon?s anti virus software. He checks his popit, and has full control.

He goes back out to the billboard and notices that has had it's legs removed and places on a wall. Clive says to Sackboy

Clive: Haha sackboy, I?ll become the most hearted player now.

Sackboy re-enters the garage of the hideout and comes out with the flying machine
http://www.universalleonardo.org/media/100/1/107_manb075r_01volante.jpg

He uses this to fly up to the billboard. Upon reaching the billbard he notices he does not have a paintanator on, so flies back down to put on the power-up. But as he reaches the floor, the flying machine breaks. Sackboy breaks down crying.

He then hears Larry Davinci?s voice echo.

(Echoed voice of davinci): Nothing is impossible sackthing, you must privaile.

Clive is standing on his billboard, arrogantly talking to himself

Clive: My level?s will be the best and there is nothing anyone can do.

He spots in the distance, sackboy on top of the monkey boss from Davinci, The spider boss from Victoria, The chicken boss from Clive, the spaceship boss from Avalon and the collector robot. He jumps off the billboard as these mega giants destroy the billboard in this fashion

Sackboy then turns to Davinci, Davinci

Davinci: Now that is what I call going to the extreme sackthing, I was watching you, and wondered why you didn?t just pull the sticker off the billboard when you were up there.

Sackboy looks at Davinci, Davinci then whispers

Davinci: Now how are you going to get rid of these gargantuan creatures.

The End

Just a reminder...the deadline for Contest #1 is today at 9:00 PM CST.

And, since I like surprises, after I have determined the winner of Contest #1, I will place the names of all of the other entrants in a hat (so to speak), for a random drawing to receive 250XP.

So, there's still a little over 11 hours to submit your entries, and an additional chance to win something for your effort. Good luck.

dang it! I forgot about this. Going to PS3 now.

I'm almost done, just got a few more things to do.

Well, I published something. I don't even know what it is. This is what 3 hours got me today. I was working on more of a Goldberg type level but was having much difficulty with some sackbot logic. I was using him as the "ball" to get things rolling and trying to get him to land precisely where I wanted to trigger the next event was difficult. So I hid that portion of the level until I can get it worked out. So I was left with a little 2 minute level. enjoy

What is CST?.....
also, Bio: your level is strange....

CST is Central Standard Time
My...my....my level is strange? Thank you. I saw the deadline was yesterday @ 9pm and that gave me about 3 hours to work in create plus take care of kids. I originally wanted you to come to a door and see the button and say :"That's too hard" and pull a rope instead. The rope would set off a chain reaction much like the stuff that is in "This level plays itself" type of levels. As I was building it, I changed my mind and went for more actual play time.

At the point where you come down the tube, I had a button set up. You jump on the button and a sackbot dressed as you, falls down the tube and a hole appears in the wall. You pick up the sackbot, throw him through the wall and watch as he is bounced up through a pipe, comes out the other end and lands on some dominoes, making them fall and set off a chain reaction that would set off balloons, little carts, and what not and then the last section would get rid of a cage wall blocking the block that is needed to push off the side onto the button.

But time did not allow. Anyway, I think mine is DQ'd Rick as it was actually published a little after the deadline. Plus, I withdraw it because it's not what I wanted, I didn't even put any sounds in it. Terrible.

A bit early, I know, but this is the moment we've all been waiting for.

But before I announce the winner, I'd like to turn the floor over to our incredible benefactor, our silent supporter, our advocate of all things uniquely done "The Hard Way". With that said, let's all give a warm welcome to the one, the only, Rob Dowdy.

(Mr. Dowdy)Hello everyone. My name is Rob Dowdy, owner and proprietor of Smazing Stuffs Inc. Our motto is "Our stuffs smazing! Guranteed." I'd like to seize this opportunity to introduce you to a new product that is soon to become a household name in towns like Tarton, Spike's Gorge, and Pflugerville. You're probably asking yourself "I wonder, what do these towns have in common?" Let me answer that...in a moment. But first some history.

For the past 11 months, Smazing Stuffs Labs, a wholly owned subsidiary of Smazing Stuffs Inc., has been conducting round the clock research and development of a new space age material that is sure to revolutionize the way we do mundane household cleaning today. This special material, in it's most basic form, was first discovered in the rice fields of (place subliminal message here-->) Bai Wun Province, and was the result of a misfortunate rogue Ox accident. The Ox, stuck ear deep in muddy clay, drew the attention of the nearby villagers, who ran as quickly as they could to rescue the burdened beast. The only thing to grab was the small tuft of hair on the Ox's head, but the weight of the Ox was too great. Try as they may, the Ox would not budge, but the villagers noticed the tips of their fingers were clean and sparkly. The village leader, not wanting to miss an opportunity so smazing, found the nearest sharp rock and debraided the Ox of it's tuft. Everyone returned to the village, with the village leader holding the tuft high above his head. That night they celebrated, as it was clear things were going to be much different. The news soon traveled to neighboring Provinces, then across the continents, then across the ocean, where Smazing Stuff's field headquarters got wind of this strange phenomenon.

(RickRock) Mr. Dowdy...excuse me please. I admit it's an intriguing turn of events and a story we are all looking forward to telling our children at bedtime, but I have to announce the Grand Prize winner, and the winner of the random drawing. Perhaps you could continue later.

So, without further delay, the winner of "The Hard Way" Contest #1, is the smazing Robmandx.

And the winner of the random drawing is Undarivik.

Thank you everyone for submitting your entries. I will post the details of Contest #2 in the next week.
