Unsung heroes of LBP

Archive: 13 posts

Cymbol's thread about what makes a well known creator is a great thread. It's interesting to see all the thoughts. It got me thinking though. I'm a logic guy and a tinkerer. It's very unlikely you may see anything I have done, but you may see levels I helped on. Who are the unknown folks behind the creators we all know and love?

I'm not taking anything away from anyone. some of these folks truly are jacks of all trades, but the large majority of them require logic help, music help, and several behind the scenes people to get their visions realized. It takes a team to make a level but we often credit the publisher. That should take nothing away from their vision and skill but sometimes I think we omit the other guys involved. I think the publishers would mostly agree too.

I thought it would be fun if we listed people that we think may not get the recognition they deserve because they don't make the stuff we see in the level.

I don't know any off hand, and perhaps that is part of the problem. Well, I do know a few, but would rather leave this open to you guys.

Who do you guys know of that deserves a little more notice?

Samurai-09... He's from Japan and makes some great music for other people. He worked on Dracudelishio's Batman stuff and I helped with some of the logic. I mentioned I wanted some music for something I'm working on and within 24 hours he had sent me an amazing recreation of a song. He also has a great short music film out there so check it out!

Antikris, C-Mckamey, Shadowriver even if he's famous by himself.
Velvet-Audio and Festerd-Jester for making music for lots of good stuff.
Leklack for what she does to help people getting known.
Aya...totally impressive nice guy and skilled beyond belief.
StevenI, you can't imagine how much he does for the Community.

The community is not only the publishers of levels, but also all the people that works to make the game enjoyable.

ooohhh....Leklack. Good call. Strangely she has her share of haters too. Love the littebigpicks.

I've had a chance to powow with Aya a couple of times, and you are absolutely right. Incredibly bright guy, and I always learn something new. There's something to be said for a guy that builds a BCH display (Binary coded hexadecimal...I may have just made that acronym up).

In fact, everyone on your list deserves a little more attention. Good picks.

Here's some unsung creators in my old thread labeled "unsung creators"

Yeah, Velvet, Festerd, and tabycatmeow, all great music producers. Some help behind the scenes, some create galleries for people to pick through.

Most times, music creators never get the respect they deserve.

Comishguy67 is making custom music for my new level, The Explorers. It's incredible music, and fits perfectly into the level. Sadly, I'm sure many people will truly never hear all the nuances involved in the music since they'll be playing through the level.

He has a fantastic checkers level, with AI. Great creator all around.

I create my levels alone, but for the first time I asked a good buddy of mine, kingsofstreet for some logic help. I had done a workable but sloppy job, and he spent weeks perfecting it. Also, I had an idea for a really unique, in game counter for Explorers. I started a rough draft, but he came in, saw what I was attempting, and took it over and made a perfect version of what I described I was trying to do. He has some great costume levels, and a logic/ effects giveaway level.

So, opening up for others creators to make a footprint has been greatly beneficial. Talk about unsung heroes.

Just checked and among the creators i hearted, at first glance Munrock was the first on LBP2 who impressed me with his The Legend of Odinbot 2: The Troll Kingdom (http://lbp.me/v/xwfmkm) level. Seems kinda unfinished with a bit random scenery but quite involved... me thinks.

Though, Deftmute (http://lbp.me/u/deftmute) "The master of layer switching" (ok, just made it up lol) with his LBP1 Lost ages series catched my attention but his LBP2 Lost Ages V (1P, HARD) (http://lbp.me/v/1kw9kh) blew me away with its innovation and blew my patience with its hardness. lol
Really same, especially this last level is very, very underplayed and himself very underrated.

To me, unsung creators are not creators who publish to be noticed, but rather create and share things without caring how many players run through it, or how many people like them. I find these player's creativity unique from the others because it is not influenced or altered by the way other players think. Everyone's first level reflects their creativity in the biggest possible way. Sure, maybe it was chocked full of Rocket carts, or a bunch of Doll arms and wind up teeth, but you have to admit, careening through the air at an impossible speed, to crash into a bunch of plastic arms is one of the funnest things you've done on this game in a long time.2011-10-24 17:39:00

Music creators really don't get the attention they deserve.. I was incredibly surprised by weirdybeardy's low heart count considering his massive gallery of awesome music. Same with Arexion, another amazing music maker without the attention he deserves. Also Luos_83's buddy c_mckamey seems to be in the shadows of Luos and Foto and it's sad that he isn't recognized for helping them make such beautiful and intricate levels.

I thought I'd mention Unexpecter's "Perfect World" series since I just played that yesterday and was amazed at how well the story is presented and how live-like the mood was. Each level in there series got better and better and I was saddened by the "To be continued" at the end of what he has so far.

Some of the most highly sought out creators are musicians. These guys have people coming at them all the time, yet sadly, they barely see any rewards for their efforts, because most people never read the level description:/ My vote goes to Velvet--Audio. A truly gifted musician, who is very selfless, and never asks anything in return.2011-10-24 19:08:00

All the creators mentioned so far in this thread I've heard of multiple times by tons of people.

In my opinion I wouldn't consider any of them "unsung", especially among these forums.

This is becoming another one of those "who's your favorite creator" threads.

I think I'll quote something someone said from centurion's thread.

"All creators are unsung".

All creators have talents and skills that aren't shown in their published levels that could get them a bafillion hearts.

I have almost 9500 and about 100 of those hearts are from creators that matter to me.

I would say I'm unsung because I' m unpopular among the people who create decent/amazing levels, including most creators on this forum.

@grayspence I doubt anyone publishes levels to only get 1 play...from themselves.

Vandz's "Complicated Simplicity III" is my all time favorite LBP level. It's just so.. simple, yet so creative and fun. It's a really rare, unique level that was once popular in LBP 1, but I feel like it deserves more attention because it pays so much attention to gameplay (most people cram features into their levels but don't think about whether or not they're actually fun). Heck, play all of his levels, they're all amazing: http://lbp.me/u/Vandz/levels2011-10-24 22:13:00
