Too Many Sequencer Instruments
Archive: 15 posts
I'm working on recreating a song and much to my surprise hit the instrument limit at just 5 instruments. I've seen several pieces on YouTube using many more than this. When was this bug introduced and how do I get around it? | 2011-10-19 19:10:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
It's not really a bug. The too many sequencer instruments message appears because you use instruments, or drum kits, that are either multisampled (they use different samples for different key ranges) or they use many or long samples. In sort depends on the size (kilobyte-megabyte who knows?) of the samples you use in the music sequencer and not the sheer number of them, for wich of course MM does not warn you before you choose and put them in there. | 2011-10-19 19:32:00 Author: zupaton ![]() Posts: 167 |
yep some samples are longer than others too | 2011-10-19 23:08:00 Author: GribbleGrunger ![]() Posts: 3910 |
Well there goes the song then. Some warning would be nice. Maybe I can dodge this problem with my other recreations. | 2011-10-20 13:30:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
It's a case of being selective really. Experiment for a while with the sequencer, heck even take a while to sit and place each instrument on a sequencer one at a time to see how it affects the thermo. You can then make up a list of which instruments are more thermo efficient. There's generally a way around these things - most of my music uses six-seven instruments, and remember you can place sound effects on there too. Play about with some of the more basic samples (I find the wave samples and other synths to be quite handy for filling out the sound when I have limited thermo left) and change their timbre / volume to see if you can achieve a desirable effect. Yes, remakes can be tough at times, but rather than making a carbon copy you could instead end up with an original sounding cover ![]() Whatever you end up doing, good luck! | 2011-10-20 13:37:00 Author: rialrees ![]() Posts: 1015 |
Well there goes the song then. Some warning would be nice. Maybe I can dodge this problem with my other recreations. It would be interesting to know which instruments you have put in the song. | 2011-10-20 14:13:00 Author: schm0 ![]() Posts: 1239 |
I can't remember them all but two of them were kits, and the other 3 were single instruments. | 2011-10-20 15:45:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
Were they Baiyon instruments? I seem to remember that they take up WAY too much thermo for their own good. | 2011-10-20 17:11:00 Author: FlipMeister ![]() Posts: 631 |
I can't remember them all but two of them were kits, and the other 3 were single instruments. So basically your synthesized instruments don't take up any thermo at all, and your kits and pianos will take up a ton. So if you're using two drum kits and three piano types, there's your max thermo. The reason for this is the number of unique samples that makes up each instrument. Drum kits and piano are at the top of that list. | 2011-10-20 17:48:00 Author: schm0 ![]() Posts: 1239 |
you don't have to scrap your song ![]() | 2011-10-22 19:33:00 Author: Hallm3 ![]() Posts: 252 |
you don't have to scrap your song ![]() Yeah, you don't have to scrap your song. What I think you should do is split the song into two music sequencers, and then use a tag attached to a block of wood or something attached to a slow moving piston and a tag sensor on another block of wood across from the piston to trigger the second music sequencer, setting the speed of the piston so that the second music sequencer is triggered right when the first music sequencer ends. (It's the LBP1 way of doing something like a sequencer. The only reason why I suggest doing this instead of using a sequencer is because I'm not sure if you can put music sequencers on a sequencer. Let me know if you need me to clarify.) | 2011-10-22 21:00:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
Some excellent points made above. Thanks. | 2011-10-22 22:32:00 Author: RickRock_777 ![]() Posts: 1567 |
Um, yes you can put a music sequencer on a sequencer (and the opposite). You can even place a music sequencer on a music sequencer, but only at the end of it (since it will stop the first sequencer to play the 2nd one. Really, don't use physical logic. | 2011-10-22 22:52:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
The number of notes I have isn't the problem, it's the number of instruments. And since I can't play 2 sequencers at the same time, I'll have to modify my song to include less resource-intensive intruments, which I'm not entirely happy with, but difference isn't always a bad thing. | 2011-10-23 16:28:00 Author: Unknown User ![]() |
you don't have to scrap your song ![]() I had no idea you could do that, big thanks for the info! | 2011-10-25 19:13:00 Author: Angantyr ![]() Posts: 18 |
