There Was A Problem Publishing Your Level

Archive: 13 posts

A quite annoying problem here.

A while ago I published a level called Community Font Kit (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=61114-Community-Font-Kit-2.1-(Sticker-Panel)) and it has been fairly well received.

I spent the last month updating how the fonts are delivered and re-published. Now this is where it gets weird. It froze while updating and I was forced to restart my PS3. I re-booted and tried to publish it again, but was given an error message "There Was A Problem Publishing Your Level, Please Try Again Later" I tried a few times over the couple of hours and it finally published.

Or so I thought... It appeared locked at first, so I tried to unlock it but go the same error message. I finally got it unlocked but then noticed that no one was playing it.

Not a huge deal, but it has been getting consistent plays since first published so I thought that was strange. Now two forum members have mentioned that they have tried to load it to no avail... which makes me think that no one can play it.

I tried to move it and was told it could not be moved, and also tried to publish over it a few times. And I think that I may have resolved it, but I need confirmation.

I can delete it and start fresh if it is corrupted, as I said tracking play count is not an issue, but I would prefer to keep it the same as I plan to update with more fonts and keeping the hearts mean people can come back to it.

It would be great if some one could try to load it and see if it works for them as well as mention load times.

If it is broken I will publish fresh and see if people can load into it also...

hmmmm... I blame you.

But I think I'll will try to remove the sticker material font kit... maybe 72 fonts is just too many

it's 3.7MB, I had all the fonts in there as both Sticker and Holo, I just deleted the Sticker versions and it works fine now... (I think... I mean, one person played it... which is a good sign)

Without the stickers versions, it is 2.4MB

It was a lot of emitters 36 Fonts each has an emitter for each letter... some fonts have numerics also, so nearly 2000 emitters are in the prize bubbles.

Maybe just too much to deal with?

How did you ever get a file size so big? Usually a topped out thermo is a bit under 1 MB.2011-10-17 13:26:00

Levels can potentially glitch completely, I've got a level up that can't be tweaked whatsoever, (other than deletion probably, but I'm not trying that) and I've tried moving it around, changing the text, or to LBP1 only and I always get that message. The thermo is only 3/4 full so it's not a size issue with this one though.2011-10-17 13:34:00

The actual thermo is quite low on this level, but I do have 3 of the best font level from comphermc, lite_Sleeper, and Arcas-x's rolled into a prize bubble, as wells as a few great stand alone fonts from people like schm0.

There are 36 fonts at this stage. Each font set has two stickers to show what the font looks like. And each creator kit has a sticker.

The delivery method of a font set is each letter is emitted from its own emitter to make the font set appear as one whole kit with individually selectable letters.

I guess the fonts themselves make big file sizes. It'd be great to know what load times people are experiencing now, as this is obviously going to limit the scope of the stage, and level links will have to appear.

There's very little correlation between thermo and file size. Thermo mostly measures simulation and rendering complexity, and prize bubbles generally have the highest file size to complexity ratio.

The complexity of the prizes themselves can make a difference, however, e.g. my Garden of Goodies level has quite a few complex prize bubbles, and would often crash LBP1 when trying to edit the level, so I usually had to remove all the prizes before doing multiple edits, then replace them all just before publishing.

Mr_Fusion...the level loaded for me tonight (Yay!) . Load time was a hair under 8 minutes on the 12th attempt. All previous attempts failed to load, and at times exceeded 10 minutes. Some of this time could be server traffic related, noise, and the fact I have DSL. Not sure what a cable connection would yield.2011-10-18 05:08:00

^^firstly, thank you for your support on this, as well as your patience. Your repeatdx attempts and an 8mins is a long time to wait (unless this is normal for you) and even though I spent a month setting up the fonts I don't think I'd wait that long for a normal level.

Maybe I should make it a hub to break up load times. It seems a little inelegant to have sub levels every two steps... Thoughts are welcome.

@jules which level is it? Im interested to see its load times.

No problem...I enjoy supporting our community. And I would only wait that long for a member of LBPC...definitely not the norm with the LBP community levels, unless someone had referred me to a level of very high quality.

If you were to split the level into 2 parts, I think you would have more plays. The rip-n-goers aren't going to wait any longer than the "instantaneous load" anyways, so your audience will be those that would actually use the fonts.
