Do you put easter eggs in your levels?

Archive: 24 posts

Sometimes when I'm testing my levels, I find a glitch that gets you out of the map or something you can do to reach places that normally aren't reachable. But instead of fixing these glitches, I just turn them into secret areas. I call them "RabidJellyfish Secret Areas" and they're REALLY hard to find. Basically, in most of my levels, there's a hidden location with a picture of a dark jellyfish. Just kind of an easter egg I like to put into my levels, even though I doubt anyone will find them here's a video of one of them: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VeCy7uJuYxk

I know people have secrets in their levels, with like prize bubbles and stuff, but does anyone have any easter eggs like this in their levels? Another one is in one of my levels there's a stack of papers (just thin cardboard) and if you knock them over and flip them around, you can find one piece in the stack with the word "HI" written on it And if you get over the start gate of the race in my speed running level, the timer at the end says "00:00" and there's a comment that says "yeah, you got over the start gate, didn't you?"

Yeah, I have one in Jumper. People posted about it in the comments. So, it seemed to go over well.

But I don't typically add them.

I love hiding things in my levels. In many levels published by myself, Linkus89, or Darthlink32, you can find 4 digit codes which can be redeemed in my Rewards Safe level for prizes. It doesn't stop there though, oh no! I like to hide all kinds of references, rewards, and secrets all over the place. It makes it more fun!2011-10-17 02:28:00

I usually stick a New Zealand flag sticker (that I made) in my levels somewhere. (with the exception of my R&C level)
I wouldn't give out too many points (if any) in those obscure places though.

There's at least one in every level I have published.

My favorite is the Stiff Pistons guy making a cameo appearance in Space Assassins 2, but to my knowledge nobody except for Incinerator22 has ever found him.

I do most of the time. Usually it's a Mr Molecule cutout

Or sometimes it's just a large unreachable, unseeable area build just for me.

If he has in the genital a finger from the monster kit dlc, i am really tempted to go search for him.

I love secrets... not sure how to distinguish between easter eggs, secrets and just surprises. ^^;

Like you (RabidJellyfish) I test extensively and add little messages for when players get stuck or break the level.

But I also design my levels to be 50% hidden from players, so there's lots to explore/replay... so I dunno...

Here are a few examples of what I guess are easter eggs?

GIRLS ROOM
http://lbp.me/v/3f9y86
- First room includes posters of other levels (Escheresque, Girls Room 2)
- Sticker the wall of the first room to unlock a meaningless "prototype" puzzle
- Sticker the wall of the second room for a 2-second spoiler of the story

GIRLS ROOM 2: Puzzle Paints
http://lbp.me/v/448n6g
- In the first level jump on the white pipe and go right for a Girls Room 1 reference
- You can find cake and at least 2 Portal personality cores in the level

ESCHERESQUE
http://lbp.me/v/6h397f
- Sticker the "monster scoreboard" at the end for a minigame!
http://i6.lbp.me/img/ft/7760790afda778672a2053061efd16e513a67842.jpg

WANDER (Like A Clock.)
http://lbp.me/p/5yn-gr
- Sticker the cog at the beginning for Hard Mode!

Oh I always add easter eggs to my levels. There's several in my hub, and several in my other levels. I'll spill a few. In A Day With Mr. Putty 2, if you press the Left stick, more Mr. Putties will appear! In Super Mario Fighter, all characters have secret moves if you press L1+L2 simultaneously. In Rolling Downhill, if you somehow make it passed the scoreboard, I'll yell at you.2011-10-17 15:37:00

Oh yeah, and in my friend's levels I'm helping them make, I normally make things happen in you don't do anything or stay near something for a certain amount of time. Most of the time it's something either telling you to proceed in a hilariously weird way, or just something hilariously weird.2011-10-17 17:47:00

Hey, me too! I just did this to one of my levels I'm working on the other day. It's similar to in the Story mode when you wait around and the characters start uttering random phrases and such.

Ahaha yes. I think I played a couple of your levels and I stumbled upon some of your secrets. Like the hidden panel in that one level that lets you skip the entire thing...

One time I joined a random person's create session with a friend, and while my friend and the random guy were talking, I snuck away, dug a tiny tunnel and placed my signature jellyfish sticker at the end of the tunnel. Who knows, it might still be there. My sticker could be somewhere out there in LittleBigSpace. Some day the creator may stumble upon it and wonder how it got there xD

I have a "Mr. Beaver Says No" sticker in all of my LBP2 levels. Otherwise, most usually have a secret area and stuff. I find that using sticker switches is good, it's like hiding things in plain sight. I gave out 10,000 points in one of my unpublished levels for stickering a report.2011-10-19 21:29:00

In my level there's a way to interact with 2 NPC's that will trigger small amusing events, but they're not really hidden.2011-10-19 23:41:00

I put references in my levels. They're not something that you have to search around for ages to find though, just add a little humour.

There's one in my latest level in the single player mode which I'm quite happy about. I'm not gonna tell ya what it is though in the hope that somebody will actually play it!

Only two of mine have them.
Like in my top-down versus level, if you activate three secret things, it activates 1/6 hidden songs. Whenever you play the level you have a chance to hear a different song.

I actually have this character called "The Secrets Fairy' who supposedly hides secrets all over LBP, who's in every one of my levels, even twice sometimes. Not many people have found em, but when they do I comment on their profile about it saying stuff like "Grats : )"2011-10-23 05:11:00
