Best way to destroy a switch

Archive: 7 posts

Ok guys, I've got a plan in my level to have a machine that brings out the correct switch when prompted. Ie it moves the desired switch into the holding area where it can be pressed.
But I've came across a problem.. is there any way I can destroy the switch after it has been used to free the holding area for the next one?
I was thinking of building a crusher but I don't know if that will work.

Any help is appreciated

Drop it in gas? I'm guessing it won't work because thats pretty simple :l2008-12-24 15:33:00

You could make the object from dissolvable material..... But really a crusher could work.2008-12-24 17:27:00

If you attach a mag switch or key to dissolve material, once the material has dissolved, the key/switch will as well. I believe this works with any kind of tool that has to be attached to something to exist in-game (ex. bolts, pistons, etc).

Dropping the switch in gas will not destroy it. Gas only has an effect on Sackboy, otherwise it has no effect on anything in the game.

Your idea of crushing the switch will work, provided that you are crushing the exact object the switch is attached to. I think the dissolve material trick is a better way to go, though.

But I'm talking about an actual switch.
Like a 3-way-switch.
So I'm hoping I don't have to resort to making my own and using magnet keys

If you destroy a switch, anything it was connected to will simply turn "on" and you will not be able to turn any of it off. Keep that in mind, also try looking for another solution to your problem other than multiple switches, perhaps have the machine different keys into the proximity of a piston/key combo with the initial switch set to directional. In this way the other parts of the machine can all be activated with the same switch by using it at different times.2008-12-25 09:44:00

Ye, I just thought about that actually = reckon I'll have to turn to magnetic key switches, you're idea sounds good, i'll try it out, thanks
