Victorian London Hangout-(Ideas needed.)

Archive: 7 posts

It seems the current trend in levels is the "Hangout" level, in which friends gather to share in a relaxing experience.
While looking at these levels, most of them are modern homes and cities. The other day, while watching Sweeney Todd (Great movie/musical) I had the idea to make a Victorian London hangout, complete with a Tea and Bake Shoppe, as well as a high-end Victorian tailor, (costumes by myself, of course.)

However, I have no idea where the player should spawn in the beginning, as well as what to put in London. The level will be updated every week, with different surprises for different holidays. Any advice, ideas, or input is loved, and credit will be given where credit is due.

Yours truly,

Maybe spawn them in a hotel room? Or outside a hotel? That way they can pretend that they're tourists in London. You can't just put them in any old room though. That would just make it seem like they're there all the time and it's nothing special. As for what to put in London, try these (http://www.allinlondon.co.uk/landmark.php) landmarks.2011-10-12 02:42:00

Don't forget that victorian london was a very dirty place, so you'll need lots of dirty stickers and lots of smog.2011-10-12 16:48:00

The obvious suggestion for Victorian London is an opium den.

Can't get a more relaxing hangout than that.

First things that come to mind when I think of London are:
1) The Big Ben - the clock tower of the Houses of Parliament (built in 1859)
2) The London Eye - ferris wheel ... so maybe that doesn't apply here
3) Buckingham Palace
4) London Bridge

You can also take inspiration from Charles Dickens stories "A Christmas Carol" and "The Adventures of Oliver Twist". Thought of those cause there are movies that can actually show how the place used to look. (personally i prefer visuals)

Also pubs tend to look the same in terms of architecture so a quick look in google images should help you a lot.

i did a level in city and i started out in the street in front of a building and looked around the city and its stores. then went into a club, got a taxi, crossed a bridge and got home ... (made it in LBP1 but haven't publish it yet :/ )

You can do something similar where you can show some of the stores and the street and then go inside the pub. you can also cross the london bridge to get to the place you want. If you only want to do the pub then you can start out in the street but in the entrance of the pub. then make the level around the pub. You could have the bar (or bars ... not really sure how those things work), sitting areas and stuff.

Hope that helps a bit. You can add me so I can show what I did or if you need any help

Sherlock Holmes and Jack the Ripper are roughly from the same era and might be of inspiration as well.2011-10-14 15:25:00
