Stopping walking animation on sackbot
Archive: 12 posts
I'm messing around with an idea for a level in which sackbot is constantly falling. I've got different functions mapped to allow him to rotate and to move left and right. The problem is, is that sackbot is essentially floating and when I use a mover to make him move left and right, his legs show the walking animation. It looks daft, especially when he's floating at odd angles. I've tried using invisible material to push him left and right, but the material collides with the scenery. I know I could use holo and tags to push him left and right but I'm not sure I'm able to plan out all that logic. Suggestions please. | 2011-10-10 23:53:00 Author: Frogmeister Posts: 236 |
I have that on my moon, but haven't messed with in a while. But mine is hooked up through siaxis. You could try that and see if that gets rid of the walking animation. I assume that's why mine don't "walk". | 2011-10-11 00:02:00 Author: CYMBOL Posts: 1230 |
Here's how i would do it, just pop a anti grav tweaker on your bot , and get a direction splitter. Hook up the left stick to it, then hook each output to a direction combiner. then hook it to an advance mover. or do the same thing with the six-axis. | 2011-10-11 01:55:00 Author: fighterwindplus Posts: 403 |
Cheers for the replies, but I can't use the sticks as they're being used to control sackbots' arms during gameplay. I also can't use the sixaxis as I need this to control sackbots rotation. I'm left with having to use either the R/L buttons or the D-pad. I've tried using movers in conjunction with all of these, but sackbot still displays the walking animation. Any other ideas? | 2011-10-11 22:12:00 Author: Frogmeister Posts: 236 |
Hmmm I had this issue when making a hoverboard for part of my upcoming series. I overcame it, but don't remember exactly how right now. I'll check but I do remember that the mover made the legs walk even with an anti grav tweak. I think it comes down to treating the sackbot as an object, the mover naturally thinks that you are controlling it walking, so you have to 'break' this. I have a fuzzy memory of a controlinator setup on the sackbot that had 0% batteries going to the left stick... I'll revisit this when I get a chance to check. | 2011-10-12 07:34:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |
Yeh, there is a way round this, but i can't remember how I've done it either. Once the bot has gone onto the walk animation mode he won't come out of it, but just play around with emitting and triggering the mover at different times, it can be done. | 2011-10-12 10:19:00 Author: julesyjules Posts: 1156 |
Cheers guys. Thanks jules, I'll try your suggestion of firing the mover intermittently and see if that works. | 2011-10-12 14:48:00 Author: Frogmeister Posts: 236 |
When controlling a Sackbot with an Advanced Mover, seems that it'll switch out of walking mode as soon as you move the bot up off the ground (with the mover, not the popit cursor). | 2011-10-16 00:03:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |
My sackbot is floating in mid air already, but what you seem to be saying is that instead of moving it with my popit, I should use a mover to get him there instead? Thanks. I'll try it tonight when I get home. | 2011-10-16 10:25:00 Author: Frogmeister Posts: 236 |
Have you tried recording a custom pose for the sackbot and have him act indefinitely? Could always use tags to make it so when it hits a certain object, or the ground itself, another behavior chip will activate, thus the sackbot will stop acting out your custom pose. Not sure sure myself though Sounds to me that Mr_Fusion's method should work too. | 2011-10-16 12:29:00 Author: MonarioBabii Posts: 128 |

I'll try it tonight when I get home. Instead of dragging the Sackbot up into the air, move him there by controlling him with an Advanced Mover. He will be in a constant falling pose. | 2011-10-16 13:07:00 Author: Syroc Posts: 3193 |
Cheers Aya and Syroc, works like a dream. | 2011-10-16 22:16:00 Author: Frogmeister Posts: 236 |
