So if there's rumors going around that firmware 4.0 is just around the corner, it seems likely, given the time since our last big update (I'd say that was FW 3.0, which i think was September '09) One thing i'm pretty sure of is a store redesign, also rumored is a redesign of the XMB. Here's a few things i think would be good! NOTE: I'm not even going to say Cross-Game chat, Sony have already said the PS3 does not have enough power to have it running during games, so regardless whether that's true or not, it means they don't want to do it at the very least. 1. A slicker, cleaner XMB. One that is crisp and fresh. This is what someone made as a demo, i personally think this looks amazing! But maybe slightly more change to the actual XMB. Also, i wouldn't mind having the ability to hide things i don't want, like hiding the PS Store icon that's under the game section (why did they ever have to add that!?) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IhIynvDAa7U 2. A special, restricted in-game XMB, so that it does not take that long to load. Take out all the things we can't do whilst in game, so take out all the media sections, settings, just leave the game, power, (music, if the game supports it) Network and friends list. This may even free up some of that in game power that the XMB eats up, meaning maybe cross game chat (But again, i doubt it) 3. More in-game music support. This has actually been rumored to be happening, only a select few allow our own music to be played in-game. If they don't want the music to ruin the feel of the game, developers could just put up a warning screen, saying that some of the feel maybe lost, or just restrict it to online play. There my ideas, what are yours?

The only feature I would really want is cross-game chat. Other than that, as long as it runs my games I don't care.

I would want to be able to have your own avatars. I would like to see avatars unlocked through doing in-game things, but if you're talking about the xbox style avatars, that'd be kinda cool...i guess

That works just as well, and if they were to strip down the ingame xmb, so it takes up less power and leaves more for the game (also making it load up faster) that'd make the chat rooms a whole lot better

An auto join function for chatrooms so whenever you log in you're always connected. And Whenever you get a message or a trophy, the ability to automatically open it up with the PS button instead of scrolling through the XMB. Cross-game text chat so you don't have to navigate to XMB each time to type something Already exists...Just don't exit out of the chatroom when you have it open and press the PS button to close it instead. The chatroom stays open and you wont have to scroll back to it.

Slimming my answer that was cancelled yesterday... 1) Quicker in-game XMB loading. Meaning slim it down. 2) Quicker text chat in-game. It takes forever to load the XMB one. So maybe an option put into the firmware for all games? Mandatory thing that Sony releases? 3) Better looking XMB with more features. I like the cdoncept of that Demo video. Lets go with something like that... Every single one of these had a paragraph to go with it... D: But laziness has made me forget my reasons/ideas and not want to retype them anyways. xD
