I've noticed that a lot of players display this message when I try to view their LBP profile. It seems that more often than not they leave no rating or comments on your levels either. Have you (like myself) ever wondered about this elusive, secretive breed of player? If so then what impressions have you formed in your minds about them and their reasons for wanting anonymity in a community focused game like LBP? And if any forum members are themselves one of these players, perhaps you wouldn't mind posting here to tell us a little about your own personal reasons not to publish your infomation to the web? | 2011-10-09 20:24:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
*cough*Incinerator22*cough* I notice a lot of people do it simply because, as I believe, they don't know LBP.me exists or know too little about it. | 2011-10-09 20:36:00 Author: warlord_evil Posts: 4193 |
It just means they are members of a secret society with an evil agenda. Nothing to worry about, really | 2011-10-09 20:40:00 Author: rtm223 Posts: 6497 |

Just fixed that for you. Is that really the default setting? I always thought that you needed to opt out rather than opt in. I guess that would explain why anonymity is so commonplace anyway. | 2011-10-09 21:58:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
Is that really the default setting? Pretty sure, but I think it asks you when you start the game for the first time. | 2011-10-09 22:27:00 Author: Aya042 Posts: 2870 |

Why do people use avatars and usernames online? Also, a lot of people simply don't wanna be followed around for whatever reason, whether a really good creator tired of people always spamming him, to someone who is being griefed by many people and changed to a new account. (Such as defmonkey666) There's many reasons why one would choose to do so. Now why is it a problem? Just as you wonder why they do that, they may wonder, why should you know if they don't want you to? | 2011-10-10 01:16:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
In some cases it's because kids play LBP2, and kids tend to be immature. You rate one of their levels "boo", even for an extremely valid reason and they'll stalk you on LBP.me and boo everything you publish, every review you post, and every comment you make. They can use it to follow you without giving you the satisfaction of +1 heart. I know this because such people have done it to me before. | 2011-10-10 01:21:00 Author: xero Posts: 2419 |
I think it's pretty annoying... To me it's just stupid because your blocking what can be accessed in the game by anyone, and a bunch of "noobs" probably either don't use it or don't know about it ... But your also blocking specific other information... Like when someone did what or a little more specific info on levels. I'm fairly sure that you can only see on what date Mm picks were given... among other things. Isn't LBP.me the only place you can search by creator? I think it's also stupid you can't review already played levels, rate stuff up and down and comment on LBP.me since it would be strewn into the game at the convenience of a computer or mobile device and what happened to those "live streams" that they said would be on it...? LBP.me is for nothing but viewing, queuing and hearting and no one really does that so... It's almost completely useless.. | 2011-10-10 03:40:00 Author: Dortr Posts: 548 |
LBP.me is for nothing but viewing, queuing and hearting and no one really does that so... It's almost completely useless.. no one really does that? It's almost completely useless? Nah. I use LBP.me exclusively to queue my levels. It's so much easier and faster than doing it in game. What I don't get is members here who will place a level in the showcase thread and their LBP profile is set to not show info. What's up with that? I'm suppose to write your psn name down and do an ingame search, only to find out that I forgot the underscore or asterisk and can't find you. I love the LBP.me integration here at LBPC and other places. If I see a member I don't recognize then I usually will immediately click on the LBP.me icon under their name so that I can queue up a level or two. As I'm typing this, I also have LBPC contest #4 list of entrants opened in another tab and queuing some of those levels and 2 in a row have "information not available" I can still queue the level, but I can't see what others have thought of it. Kind of annoying actually. But, I'm with some others who said that it most likely has to do with people not knowing about LBP.me or not knowing that you can change that setting in game. | 2011-10-10 04:54:00 Author: biorogue Posts: 8424 |
SO ANNOYING. Don't you want more plays/hearts?! I can confirm LBP.me being disabled is the default (ylod!) which is a bit stupid. I assume it's a privacy issue rather than a poor design choice on MM's part? (They aint perfect!) | 2011-10-10 05:15:00 Author: midnight_heist Posts: 2513 |
I've got an alternative account, and that profile is blocked. Because I do evil agenda things with that while keeping a good reputation in the forums Just sayin' Sometimes even simply playing a level in peace could be a nightmare. | 2011-10-10 07:44:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |

It's not a problem and I never said it was, Mr Knickers-In-A-Twist I'm merely curious about why people stay anonymous, and if people don't wish to say then they don't have to Just like I'm curious about why your only notable posts at LBPC are the ones where you jump in like a rabid terrier to attack the thread starter, but if you don't wish to say then you don't have to. | 2011-10-10 08:21:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
At first I chose not to publish my profile on LBP.me, but then I reconsidered. I was wondering why my level(s) and hearts didn't appear below my username here on LBPC, and that was why. I wanted more people to check out my level so I made my profile public. | 2011-10-10 10:25:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |

You got a really goot point here Dot, but...it's something smart, and I have come to conclusion that humanity refuses smart ideas by default Also, I should add that while my main account profile is pubblic, I really would like to filter the people that can access it. I don't look for heart, I don't crave for plays, and really I don't like to be stalked, so...for someone like me being pubblic has more downsides than being private. | 2011-10-10 11:56:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Initially I did not want my info available, mainly because of previous events that made my Takken level a target. However, when I learned that the person who uploaded some undesireable pics to my level could be exposed, as their PSN ID could now be associated with the pic, I made all of my info available for viewing so friends of mine could see who the culprit was. Sadly, though, the pics are still there... . I do agree, for the most part players are probably clueless about the feature. And for others, they prefer to keep their activity on the down low...for obvious reasons. | 2011-10-10 12:39:00 Author: RickRock_777 Posts: 1567 |

I can confirm LBP.me being disabled is the default (ylod!) which is a bit stupid. Ah, I did not know that! Couldnt remember what exactly I changed, just went with show to all - dont really see any reason not to :s I always wondered why some people had that blocked, I guess it is most likely they just didnt change their settings. Actually this is all making sense to me now, the only people who have rated down my levels are those who couldnt solve something or died (at least the few that did reply to my query as to why the rate down, that was the response they gave, most gave none /shock), these same people typically have the lbp.me blocked - so clearly not the brightest folks (read: kids). | 2011-10-10 19:31:00 Author: Masseyf Posts: 226 |
My profile is viewable only to people that are signed into PSN. And given the fact that you can't play community levels without being signed in, you can't queue community levels without being signed in, and also I have no levels published at this present juncture, I don't see what the big deal is. EDIT: I'd also like to add that I do not currently have any involvement with evil agendas, nor do I ever plan to. | 2011-10-10 23:00:00 Author: Ninja_Gnome23 Posts: 198 |
EDIT: I'd also like to add that I do not currently have any involvement with evil agendas, nor do I ever plan to. Since gnomes are inherently evil, I'm growing suspicious already! | 2011-10-10 23:51:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
I don't like recent activity and online status being accessible because weirdos messaging you I KNOW YOU'RE ONLINE BE MY FRIEND THIS ISN'T CREEPY and otherwise hounding you but have no issue with hearted list and levels list being there. If I could choose I'd make recent activity private. | 2011-10-10 23:59:00 Author: Ayneh Posts: 2454 |
I'd, personally, like the option to keep my recent activity only viewable to people on my friend's list. Surely that's possible to implement? I don't like people being able to stalk me on lbp.me either. People commenting every time you publish a sub level - that's another thing! Why does it show when you've published a sub-level on lbp.me? It doesn't show the level itself, but it mentions that you've published something - and the same with a locked level - why are they visible? Surely if I wanted you to know I published something, I'd make it public, right? I personally just wanted randoms to be able to view my levels on lbp.me - and my friends can see my recent activity etc. | 2011-10-11 00:37:00 Author: standby250 Posts: 1113 |
If I could choose I'd make recent activity private. Yeah, me too. | 2011-10-11 00:45:00 Author: xero Posts: 2419 |
So I can delete uploaded pics now? BANG! ZAP! ZOWY! Can I remove them with a grappling hook, or connect a controllinator to them, and remote guide them into a volcano? That would be much more fun. Delete is too fast...there, then gone. I want to drag them across rough terrain for several hours, watching the edges rip and tear until the pic is in shreds. Sorry...back now. Thanks for the info. | 2011-10-11 04:43:00 Author: RickRock_777 Posts: 1567 |

I imagine some of it is parents going "OH NOES INTERWEBS IS FULL OF PEADOS NO INFO ONLINE FOR YOU!", like mine were ?.? | 2011-10-11 08:13:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
I imagine some of it is parents going "OH NOES INTERWEBS IS FULL OF PEADOS NO INFO ONLINE FOR YOU!", like mine were ?.? The Internet is full of weirdos! But this is LBP, not your personal life or details (or if you are dishing those sort of details out in a game while underage, your parents should definitely be spending a lil more time with you!) | 2011-10-11 12:29:00 Author: Masseyf Posts: 226 |
Personally I find a strong correlation to people who boo and have their profile hidden on LBP. This brings me to two conclusions. These people are: A) Kids - they don't make things public because, well, they're kids or maybe because of parental intervention and generally boo because they don't know how to play properly. B) Trolls - booing because it's fun and hide their info to try and stay secretive. | 2011-10-11 15:53:00 Author: Xaif Posts: 365 |
Actually, today the IRL wheelbase911 came to my house and he set up another one of his PSN accounts (idolfan) on my 'guest' user on my PS3 so that we could play two player. We played a bunch of levels together, then fooled around on inFamous 2 a bit, then he left. Afterwards, I was feeling bored, so I went on LBP.me and typed in 'idolfan'. I'm not sure if it was because idolfan is on the same PS3 as my PSN or because the 'publish to web' setting was off by default, but it came up with "this creator has chosen not to publish their information to the web". So there. I don't know exactly what my point is, but I like saying 'so there'. So there. | 2012-05-06 08:04:00 Author: Kaboosh99 Posts: 359 |
