Your in game lbpcentral ads

Archive: 29 posts

I played the level that gives away a tank, but you have to register here to get the code to get the tank. I think that is tacky and lame.

I think you need to give it away, and tell people that it is from lbpcentral. The people who visit your site as a result of the giveaway in the level will be more likely to become part of this community, rather than making people sign up here for the tank code. Sure you might get more registered users, but what is the use of having all those users if most do not become active because all they want is the tank.

I played a level from are0blue, the tomb level. At the end, you force me to see your site logo instead of the scoreboard. That too is tacky and lame. As a gamer I want to see how i did, not some website logo.

All I'm suggesting is, keep your lbpcentral ads in the game low profile.

None of that stuff is tacky or lame. The tank level isn't meant to force people to sign up here. Rather, it was meant just for the members, as in, people who don't come here really shouldn't be seeing that at all.

As for the scoreboard, when I played through that, the logo was timed so that it only showed when the info on the scoreboard didn't matter. If you managed to time it other wise, you were probably screwing around. >.>

Am I the only one who found it amusing reading the phrase "tacky and lame" more than once in his post?

Anyway, I believe you finding the members only level was just a quirk of fate/luck. I'm sorry you couldn't get the tank, but it isn't really for the random LBP gamer-- at least that's what I'm getting from all of this.

Let me address a few things: first, the tank was intended for LBPCentral members. If you are not a member, you don't get access to the tank. This was done as a reward to our faithful members, and if you found it annoying, then "oh well". Honestly, we've got the best mix of Players and Creators there is, and if we decide we want to limit our creations to members only, then we have every right to do so. Registering takes about 3 minutes (I can do it in one and a half if I try, including the verification email); if you were annoyed, I apologize, but I'm being honest when I say the tank was not meant for you.

We are growing, and some of our members love to show us off. It's not an organized effort, it's just a big bunch of people sharing their love for the site. We've had plenty of registrations that were due to levels on LittleBigPlanet (such as Azure Palace), and you're the first person who's complained. I doubt you'll ever even read this, as you probably registered just to grab the tank. That's fine with me, but don't clutter the forums with your complaints about us; nobody wants to hear them.

You do know that Kratos specifically stated that the level was a gift to the LBPC Community. I'm not trying to be mean here, but for you to post a thread like this, is just plain out ridiculous.

What you are basically saying is : Hey, I know Kratos took a LOT of time and effort to make one of the best tanks out there on LBP. But he should just give out his hard work for free, not to receive anything in return.

Now instead of complaining, maybe you should thank Kratos for his generous gift. As I hope you have already done.

I would like to state once again, that Kratos mentioned this would be a gift to this community. Which makes sense since he did ask for a LBPC Logo to be the badge ( I didn't play the level so I don't know if he did )

Now for you to come on the forums, stating that it is a "lame and tacky" way of advertising the website, you sir are wrong, mainly because no one forced you to get the tank, it's his tank first of all, he can do whatever he wants with it.

As for aer0blue's level, please man... Stop making excuses up, you can clearly check your score outside of the level, by simply pressing R1 or moving right. I have played this level countless of times, and I can assure you can check your score, afterall, it doesn't come up and stay there. It leaves, giving you a chance to check your score.

I was suprised you didn't say Azure Place was "lame and tacky" since it said "lbpcentral.com" in the description.

As examples, go check out a few of the levels in the "Most Hearted" or "Most Busiest" categories. I can assure you that half of the levels state to "<3 me plz!" That doesn't mean you have to heart them, afterall, no one is forcing you..

That is all. I hope I didn't come off to be mean, I was just stating why this thread is useless...

I don't agree with the way he worded his post, but he does bring up a valid point about the LBP ad. It looks really nice, but couldn't it have been done in a way that doesn't cover the scoreboard by default?2008-12-24 15:08:00

In regards to the tank level, all I'm saying is, it came across to me as "sign up here to get the code for tank". That's why I said that about the tank level.

And In regard to aer0blues' tomb level, if you are playing with multiple people the ad doesn't always work right, so it does sometimes cover important parts of the scoreboard. Maybe you can put the same ad right next to the scoreboard so that its the last thing the player sees before finishing the level. You could even use a camera to zoom in on the ad as the player passes.

I didn't complain about the "lbpcentral.com" text in the "Azure Palace" description because I think that is a nice low profile way to market your site. I think you should put that in all of your level descriptions associated with lbpcentral.com

To Cartman: I registered here long before I played both levels. I think that this is a great lbp community and that you've got a good thing going on here.

Ah, well then I apologize for the jab, but take the "annoying ad" up with the level creator, not the site. Like I said, it's not an organized effort, it's just people sharing the site.

Absolutely; I don't encourage huge, annoying ads, but like I said that's something to take up with the level creator, not the site.

I'm sorry to see the LBPCentral ad detracted from your overall experience of the level, but thanks for the feedback. I'll work something up later.2008-12-24 21:38:00

You could make the proximity switch that makes it show(at least, I assume it is proximity) require all players to take effect.

WHAT TANK?

Seriously though? I've been reading this thread and I have no idea what you're all talking about. LOL!

So, where can I get said tank?

sorry but i agree.

If the level was made available to all LBP users then restricting access artificially is in slight bad taste.

However, the creators intentions were generous, which i commend.

Merry Christmas or otherwise.

I certainly don't see why. He wanted to give the tank to a specific group of people. Until we get a feature such as "share the level only with friends" or something, this will have to do. As before, it's not forcing anyone to join the website nor is it its intention; it's merely to share an object with a forum he's in.

EDIT: I have addressed the issue with the LBPCentral Logo. It is now smaller and will not block the scores screen.

Hey dude keep the shouting at us at a minimum, it is not that much trouble to just sign up, and see what we are about, just calm down and take a moment to relax, almost everyone is in such a hurry, just slow down and we got you covered, just make sure to check out the community. Oh and Kratos, thanks for the tank dude, it will be a cool Christmas present

Cheers!

I got it, I probably won't use it any levels, I'll use it to make a replica or something... I have something against using other peoples stuff, it just feels so dirty. Lmao. Thanks anyways I love it!

I think I might have found a cause for some of our woes...

In the news and media page in the infomoon of LBP itself (the game, you know, the thing on the PS3) it has a new section which highlights some levels they found interesting for the month.

The very first level highlighted is the tank one. I haven't checked it out yet, but it sure sounded like the tank level we have, with the same username and gift thingy mentioned in the level.

So the very first level that MM officially highlighted in game... is this one here, which was not meant to be a public one.

It's just the news section makes no reference at all to the lbpcentral site or that it's meant to be for the users here only.

So people will be coming here wanting to see an amazing tank and just register for that.

CC, you might want to get in contact with MM urgently about this. I fear it might cause some serious troubles with this site and the user base. I'll PM you directly so it comes to your attention.

In one way, I do agree with the original poster (ifire1?).

We are getting a lot of members, but what's the use of that if they're all just spamming with "lol gimme code kplzthnx". But then again, it may bring many active members to the site so I guess it's all good.

Really though, they do that for like 1-3 posts maximum, and leave. So what? I'm pretty sure out of the like for example, 50 people that come to get the code, at least 5 will stay. We won't ever remember those other 45, so it really doesn't matter. At least we get 5 active members. That's all that matters right? A bigger (better) community.

But the OP is talking about having a better community, even if he is phrasing it the wrong way. And if he's a complete nutter xD
