MGS Extras

Archive: 46 posts

It seems Media Molecule didn't tell us everything about the pack. If you'll look into your pop-it menus, ye who have downloaded the pack, you'll notice a new danger besides the plasma ball, the missile.

Also, Tyler thinks there may be a switch to change the Global Settings in some of the MGS levels. If you notice in The Mission, the settings seem to change halfway through. This switch isn't in my Pop-it, but it may very well be coming sometime soon.

This is what Tyler is talking about:

Yeah, they always leave some information out of updates for whatever reason, but the creature navigator isn't new, I've used it in a level before.2008-12-24 04:15:00

I wondered what those were while I was going through these levels. Didn't notice the creature navigator thing though.2008-12-24 04:17:00

I noticed that as well; it's gonna make levels tons better when it's implemented. I bet we don't have it because it wasn't ready for release due to some issue, but I'm glad I got a chance to preview it.

EDIT: I don't think the creature navigator is new though. I've had it in my Popit since launch.

Oh, really? /embarassed

I guess I just never noticed it before. Oh well. At least some of my information is right.

Yeah I thought it was strange to start out in the mission at dusk and end up the level at day... THIS IS A GREAT THING!2008-12-24 05:02:00

Yay! I remember suggesting a switch like that (not that I'm taking any credit for it, mind you). Glad to see it's going to be in the game, after all.

I wonder what else will be implemented into the game if I wish hard enough?

Anything that has enough demand will probably be added at one point or another. We mentioned this kind of feature in an interview with Mark Healey, and he said (I'm paraphrasing) we could just fake it with some tricky light objects. It's cool to see they are adding it in, whether or not we get to use it yet.

Lol, Bass... You're not alone, I knew it was out since launch. But I found out recently, like 3 weeks ago. It's weird because you never notice it, since they don't tell you that you got it or anything...2008-12-24 08:06:00

I'm not sure if it related, but what's this?

It's called "Sensorspitze" in German. You get it if you ace Act 3. I can't find it anywhere in my popit.

I can't figure out what the creature navigator does or how to use it.

The creature navigator is something that came from the start.
Basically, creatures set to Ignore will notice these and turn around.

By the way, there's now a "Searchlight" which is a switch in itself

It's pretty cool I must say.

I know this isn't much. But the content list said 3 new background music tracks and 1 interactive. But it didn't say we were going to get a new background scene. And I was glad to see that. 2008-12-24 16:28:00

There's a new background scene?

Yes. In our tool bag under background themes. We now have the choice of the MGS background.

I'm think it's a sensor though. Seeing as it's called "Sensorspitz "

Ok, it's called Sensor Pod in English, and it's definitely not in the pop it.

Could we be mistaken, and this just be a sticker, like the other 2 ace items are?

Most likely they didn't release this in the pack because it was something they plan to release as an update, possibly in their next set of story levels?2008-12-24 20:40:00

I really wish they would tell us these things instead of having us figure it out. I don't see the point of "suprising" us everytime we go into our pop-it.2008-12-25 21:41:00

That's in Decorations. It's not a switch or anything, just a decoration. It's called a sensor something (can't quite remember) but it's nothing special.

WTF does the creator navigator do exatcly?2008-12-26 06:16:00

It makes the creature switch directions when they reach it. If the creature is on follow or flee, it does nothing, but on ignore, they change direction.2008-12-26 06:18:00

Wow, I noticed that global settings switch, but didn't associate it with actually changing the settings of the level. That would be great! I'm actually tinkering with a level idea right now where I could really use that. Hope we get that feature soon.2009-01-02 22:48:00

Thank god for LBPC! That thing has been driving me nutso ever since I downloaded the MGS Pack.

Is it confirmed that it's a level lighting gizmo? Because I've seen it in some odd places...

That's the sensor pod, ace Act 3, and it's in your decorations menu.

And if anyone's actually wondering what the sensor pod actually is, it's the eye on top of Gekko in MGS4.

am i the only one who's going to die if it doesn't come out next update?

I saw pictures of it in the MGS pack..... I can see their being lots of uses for this, but inexperienced creators using it......that will be a disadvantage 2009-03-05 19:32:00

A disadvantage indeed, I can already see the line of chaotic levels using this effect just for the sake of it, just because it looks so totally awesome dude!!

Not just somebody, there was a major freak out when this was detected so it's very old news for almost everybody here.
And yeah it's a really cool thing and i really hope it's getting released in the next patch, the one that will include all those extra enhancements and the angle option for switches... :kz:

Ah geez, you got my hopes up with the thread title.

Yeah, we've all known that it exists for quite a while, it's just a big question on IF and WHEN we get to use it too..

It would be funny if there never was a day/light tool and that they really were doing all of this with perfectly positioned LED's and speed set sensor switch arrangements... the globe sensor looks an awful lot like Liquid's trophy machine, and it could be a way for them to just tease the fans a little, and see if anybody can figure it out and do it.

I'm starting to think that MM doesn't like to release game changing tools until people have tapped out the current options... and then they like to drop a bomb that ups the ante a little and raises the bar, curious to see how much further it can be taken.
