the Last Queen of Neverland (LBPC5)

Archive: 9 posts

This thread is going to be somewhat of a development blog this month for my work on LBPC5. I feel it is necessary to keep this thread going so I will have some more drive to actually finish this by the deadline...

Anyways, my entry is titled "the Last Queen of Neverland" Obviously, I chose "Peter Pan" as my basis for this project. The game follows a 16 year old Wendy Darling, a girl whose life is in shambles. Her father died 2 years earlier in a car wreck, and at the time her mother was unemployed, so with no life insurance, the bills piled up, and Wendy, her two young brothers and her mother were forced to move from their home in Chicago into a small rental house in the back woods of Louisiana.

With her father dead, all of her friends back in Chicago, and her mother a depressed wreck, Wendy is on the edge of losing everything. And to make matters worse, about a week ago, Wendy caught a man peering in through her bedroom window.

How can Wendy juggle all this mental strain while worrying about getting murdered in the night by a stranger from the window?

"the Last Queen of Neverland" is a dark, re imagining of the 1911 classic, "Peter and Wendy" by J.M. Barrie. It features a throbbing soundtrack featuring Metallica, Sublime, and Guns n Roses. The bulk of the gameplay will focus on Wendy exploring the abandoned "Neverland" amusement park, where a gang of runaway teens that call themselves "the Lost Boys" lead by the charismatic Peter Banning have set up a bohemian commune. Wendy agrees to help the Lost Boys locate their former "Queen" Peter's ex-girlfriend, "Tiger" Lilly Williams, who they believe has been kidnapped by a former US Army Captain, James L. Hooke.

October 7- I am now 95% done with recreating "Wherever I May Roam" My Metallica and choreographic the opening cinematic. Also started work on the rest of the Darling household. As you can see in the pic above, Wendy's bedroom was finished yesterday.

October 8- I finished work on the architecture of the house, finalized the designs of John, Michael, Mrs. Darling, and the late Mr. Darling. Replaced the Playboy poster (shown in the picture above) has been replaced with a 'Nightmare on Elm Street' poster, much to my disappointment... I also finished the logo. I will upload it shortly.

October 9- Finished the interior design of the Darling house. Started doing the choreography with all the members of the Darling family for the first cinematic, and I set up the meeting between Wendy and Peter.

Not very Disney, is it? I think it fits your level as far as I can tell. Maybe it could use a little something extra. A graphic, or some colour maybe.

Gotta say, the level showcases I've seen so far have a very different interpretation of dark than I have. Cool!

I have indeed added a bit of flair to the logo, and no. It isn't very Disney. Lol. I thought the point of the contest was to darkify Disney tho lol 2011-10-10 12:49:00

Yes, but dark has so many interpretations. I brainstormed a bit and came up with nine ways to make (fairytale) stories darker. I'm not judging the competition, but I expect the way you make it dark doesn't matter that much, it's more about how well you execute it.2011-10-10 14:43:00

That is what I was thinking. People making it dark by adding pumpkins and lightening are one way, but making it real and gritty is another way.2011-10-10 16:10:00

This sounds truely great, I'm loving the band-style logo and the design for the characters are nice, along with the little posters in the background. Just like Rogar, I had a few ideas pop up when hearing this months LBPC Contest was going to be a Dark Twist on Disney Classics, this not being one of them. Not to say that's a bad thing, it sounds very unique, and this grungy take on it sounds like it will work very well, I just can't wait to see it, best of luck with this competition. ^^2011-10-10 23:29:00
