How to Make More Realistic Grass

Archive: 23 posts

I'm sure we're all aware that the LBP1 grass material kinda sucks. I found a way to make much better and more realistic grass. It's actually really, really simple.

Just take the Doormat material (from the move pack), and paint it green. Here's how it should look:

oh yeah pretty cool, its only a shame that it wouldnt look better without using the 3d glitch, by which i mean the front side of the material is pretty ugly like this

i might use this in the future though nice find

Great find!

For who didn't know yet, Freaky Clouds set to 0% brightness will result in a nice translucent water surface. Direction and speed of the waves can be changed, but not the color. Because it is set to 0% brightness stickers won't have effect either. However, you can intersect it with sticker panel material, creating color, reducing transparency or creating dropshadows (black, 30-50% transparency).

Also you could make a thin layer of the grass with the walk through glitch...it makes it look like Sackboy's feet are sinking in And to complete the effect, use a sound effect to make it sound like grass 2011-10-18 21:51:00

thats a really cool idea, never thought of using the walkthrough glitch in that way.

Or, alternatively, make a snapshot of a large piece of grass and stick that onto sticker panel which you intersect with your actual floor. You can then use other benefits of sticker panel, like translucency.

Also, AFAIK, the glitch does not allow you to move the object. With Sticker panel you can.

I like it You could use stickers to make blades of grass and animate them to move about I'll do that for my Metal Gear game...I was going to use actually leaves, but with this you can have them flatten down Good stuff

As with most Sponge-type materials, you already get that effect for free (whether you want it or not) since the rendering bounds of the material are slightly larger than the physics bounds.

Good point It also disguises a Sackbot lying on his side (if you want them to look like they are asleep), it looks a bit silly on something more solid

Cool, your way shown here sure looks realistic and like... well grass Anyways LBP style.
Only downside to this trick, is that not everybody in the community owns the move pack lol.

Even if you people do not have a Move, i would suggest getting the move pack, for the sole purpose of the items. "But it won't allow me to play the levels without the move", you say. This is true, but here is a workaround. Get a friend with a move, have them start the first level without you, then join them and you will be able to sit back an let them do the collecting for you. Thats also not to mention Sticker Pannel is obtained via tutorial, and you don't even need the move to do it.2011-12-17 19:35:00

Sorry for the bump, but check this out. Attract-o-Gel makes a really good water material! It even moves.

A friend and I discovered this a few weeks ago. With some blue hologram behind it this looks really nice. Probably the best looking water you can make right now.
