Sackbot Checkpoints -- My Way
Archive: 4 posts
I'm going to show you my way of making a sackbot checkpoint. This way allows you to have multiple checkpoints open at once (One for each player). I have had people say that it is super overcomplicated and I'm tired of that. So I decided to make this tutorial to show how simple and easy it is. First, you're going to need your sackbot. (Duh?) Place a tag on this sackbot called Sackbot. (Note- If you plan on using multiple sackbots for a cooperative style gameplay, you need to number the bots from 1 - 4) Then place a controlinator on it, have it set to 'Reciever', and have it recieve blue signals. Now get out a peice of holographic material and set the brightness to 0%. Place a controlinator on this and set it to Transmitter. Have it transmit to blue. Now place a follower on that controlinator and have it follow your Sackbot (1 - 4) tag. Settings: Maximum Speed- 100.0 Acceleration-100% Minimum Detection Radius- 0.0 Maximum Detection Radius- 5000.0 http://ic.lbp.me/img/ft/05c7c8306642d996690d07f92a0ad5f2ec6ae066.jpg Now on to the checkpoint logic! First, you need a physical object to use as your checkpoint. It can be any shape, size, or material. Next, you need to place a Microchip on your checkpoint and on that chip you place 2 Tag Sensors, 1 AND Gate, and 1 Emitter (I'm explaining as if they are all in a line as the picture shows). Connect the AND Gate to the Emitter and plug the second Tag Sensor into the AND Gate. Make that Tag Sensor seek out your Sackbot (1 - 4) Tag, set the radius to 5000.0, and invert it. For the Emitter, use the CAPTURE TOOL (Not live emit) and CAPTURE your sackbot (Note- Only the sackbot should be captured. Do not capture the controlinator the player rides in). Then have the emitter emit the sackbot in front of the checkpoint. Set it to Emit Once with a lifetime of infinite. Max emitted at once should be 1. For the first Tag Sensor, set the Maximum Detection Radius to whatever checkpoint activation radius you want. Set it to sense your Sackbot (1 - 4) Tag, also. Now that you're done with that chip, you need a piece of holographic material to put another chip on. This is going to be your Global Checkpoint Selector. You can use wired or wireless signals. I am choosing to use wired for this tutorial, though. On this chip, place a selector with the number of outputs equaling the number of checkpoints you wish to add. For this, I will use 2. Have the first Tag Sensor from the checkpoints chip plug into Selector Input: #1. This means that when the tag is activated, it will switch the selector to this spot. Then connect Selector Output: #1 to the AND Gate on the checkpoint chip. Once you do this, then when the selector for this checkpoint is activated AND the globally sensing, inverted Tag Sensor doesn't sense your sackbot with the Sackbot (1 - 4) tag on it, It will activate the emitter. Thus emitting a new sackbot that your controlinator will rush to in order to follow it. Copy and paste your checkpoint somewhere else. Connect the wires into the same spots (Though use Selector input/output #2 instead). You should now have a working Sackbot Checkpoint setup! This is what you should have ended up with: http://i9.lbp.me/img/ft/4d90e131f2c746d5c65852d8f32e999ee4a2068e.jpg I hope this was a simple and instructive tutorial. This is my first time doing this... It was kind of cool so you can expect more of the "My Way" tutorial series coming soon. I tend to do things differently than most people so I think it would be nice to get all my ideas out there! | 2011-10-03 02:43:00 Author: Speedynutty68 Posts: 1614 |
no offense dude, but this seems to be a step backwards from the more common way of doing it, simply because you need to run wires between them all. check out comphermc's video tutorial for an easier way to do it, and all you have to do is place one at each new location without running wires. and it also has the emitter on the follower so you only have to edit one emitter instead of one on every checkpoint http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6vi1JhVmBE | 2011-10-03 08:05:00 Author: evret Posts: 612 |

And what if you don't want the emitter to follow you? What if you want a normal checkpoint system? This is mainly so you can use checkpoints in Versus mode without while keeping all the people from spawning randomly. | 2011-10-03 15:48:00 Author: Speedynutty68 Posts: 1614 |
ok, tbh i seen the title and looked at the pic to see the method, maybe you should have had verses in the title or something. but i didnt even consider mp when i looked at the title as i never work on mp coz lag always kills the experiance as soon as u add a tiny bit of complexity | 2011-10-03 17:12:00 Author: evret Posts: 612 |
