(LBPC4) BOT - The Industrial Wastes

Archive: 6 posts

Here is my latest level which you control a small robot. This is part one so far and it is a litle diffcult but not too much.

I would really appreciate some honest opinions and feedback as this was a hard level to make nd i'm not sure if there are any glitches or not in it.

Unfortunatley because of work i wasn't able to add all the things i wanted to this for the contest so its more than likely lacking in regards of contest criteria.

This looks very interesting, I'll make sure to give it a play and tell you what I think

EDIT: Okay, I just played it, here's what I think.

First off, let's start with the visuals, fantastic. The silhouette look was executed for the level greatly, and the design of everything was marvelous, plus even the stickered background parts didn't look half bad either, which cna be surprising for things stuck on. The design of the robot was cool too, and going up those gears were a lot of fun. I thought the music for the level was a good choice, although maybe use that or something else for the menu, I just didn't think that Automaton by Lorn was the best for menu, at least for this kind of level. The little How to is also informative yet simply-put, easy for the brain to swallow. While the gears, spikes, logo and options in te menu worked well, I thought adding the robots and all moving about made it seem a good bit messier, especially with them pushing others and tipping others over. Although when I say robots, I'm not counting those flying ships that zoom by the menu, those are great and don't seem to cause a disturbance imo, so those dudes are keepers.

The scene selection is nice, but let's start off with Scene 1, along with other details and the gameplay chore. While some might think the level is too difficult, I thought it was a good deal of fun, moving about on all the moving and rotating objects. I think what really made it not too frustraitng was that the moving was pretty smooth, but if you have the thermo, maybe some sort of option to stop the bot in which he doesn't slowly move in a direction might be nice, but not very necessary. I've seen the whole "points follow where you're going" thing executed in LBP2 quite a while now, but this level pulls it off the best with those miniture gears, they're like little candies, really does a nice job at making me actually want to collect them, one reason being totally seperating it from the points in LBP2, with every small step making it seem like it's own game count. Plus, the shiny spark ones that are worth even more was a great idea, I also like how at least one was sort of a one-shot deal, like if you move the blocks you can still pass level but not get it, so you gotta be careful with moving to get them all.

I thought the amount of options were pretty good, the circle button option that pushes stuff could've pushed a further out as it didn't seem real effective, but luckily the feature wasn't completely necessary in beating the level anyway, as you could just push against it, or at times use the blue ray. Most platforms you can get on, except a few ones, but it's pretty obvious you can go through them. The only one I actually got confused was the pipe in which the little robot rocket-looking birds were nesting on, but that's probably just me looking all around the place. I like the little owl-thingy at the area where you really get to start using your blue ray which picks up things (By the way, awesome addition)

Some objects are handy as for some, if the jump isn't the msot sucessful, you can shift and aorund and sometimes crawl back up, although when running into the first elevator platform, if you just run into the left edge tip instead of running then jumping on the platform, you'll die. And it happens easily, I made sure by trying a second time running into it. When getting to the owl-bunny dude, just testing if I could break levle or whatever, I brought over blue box (not danger one, the one used for training) and chucked it in the water.

I jumped down with it, fell in water right by it and died. Only this time, when I spawned out of the checkpoint before the end of yellow silhouette world, I spawned out just sackboy, not in a dcs controlling the bot. I swam some left until I was way under the previous chekcpoint. Thankfully the checkpoint activated far away. Anyway though, I held retry, and then I popped out of the bot. When I went right to the checkpoint , I decided to see if this weird glitch still continued, so once activating the final checkpoint in the yellow world again, I tried dying but instea dof just by blue square, I first did it, anywhere, with checkpoint still activated. I died, and again, came out as sackboy, out of dcs, no robot fell. This is a veryw eird glitch, but it is possible to continue playing, as long as you don't end up using all your lives expirimenting like I did. x]

Overall, this is a great game, so much has been put into it, and the yellow silouette world is amazing. I'll come back here to review your blue silhouette world, but I do have to go. I know the thermo must be filled to the bone, so my only real main suggestion is that you work some with menu and while it's up to you, I recommend at least taking out the characters. There are some bugs, but if you can't fix them, that's fine. Overall, this gets a , :star: :star: :star: :star: :star: and a <3 Well done, I'll come back to tell you what I think of the blue area but right now I gotta go. If you ever need someone to beta test any other upcoming levels, I'd be more than willing to, all you gotta do is ring me up and good luck with the contest

EDIT 2: Incase you're curious, I also took some pictures of when I was taken out of dcs when respawning fromc ertain checkpoint after glitch occure dwhen dying water near blue block i had chucked in there.

This is a pretty good level. Even though, I got stuck on one part that prevented me from completing the level.

VISUALS:
The silhouette visuals looked spectacular, and the background colors looked awesome.

SOUND:
Great music choices in this level.

GAMEPLAY:
The controls of the robot are very good. However, the part I got stuck on is when I try to place the detonator on the underneath passage below the blue box. When I carry the detonating boxes and I accidentally dropped it on the gear next to the passage, the detonator's explosives got crushed and all that remains is the flat layer of it. It happened again on the second detonator, and the boxes couldn't be respawned.

OVERALL:
It's a good LBPC4 level, even if I got stuck on the detonator part. A yay.

Thanks for playing JustinArt

It wasn't until after i got permission from Omegaslayer to update it that i realized i had forgotten to add a respawn of the box if you accidentally broke it. But be sure after the contest is finished i will fix that problem.

I've got your level queued but i will be working most this week so if i forget then just send me a reminder but more likely i won't.
