Block certain players from playing your levels?
Archive: 13 posts
Hey, I just thought of something that might be useful for people who have a following of haters or a marriage of dislikers booing their levels. Maybe if there was a feature that could completely block someone from playing the levels you publish. Kinda like the block list on PSN for the friends list. Yay or nay??? | 2011-10-01 08:01:00 Author: comishguy67 Posts: 849 |
YAY, I approve that every creator must have the right to block undesired people or limit stuff to people on his friend's list. | 2011-10-01 08:33:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
Yeah, there are people who leave reviews that are obviously trollls, and tend to leave nothing but crude comments. Seems like a no brained for community based games like LBP. | 2011-10-01 17:35:00 Author: CYMBOL Posts: 1230 |
Isn't this a little against the spirit of things? Everything is playable for everyone, that's one of the guidelines MM has followed since LBP1. For the private stuff you only want your friends to see, test or play there's the keys. I think I should remind you guys how a function like this could as easily be used for trolling as much as for anti-trolling. Trolls blocking their "trolling targets" from playing their levels? Someone not accepting constructive reviews and blocking all their levels to people who criticized them? An anti-trolling function I'd support would be the ability to block someone from commenting on your profile but I think closing out levels to specific people is going a bit too far. | 2011-10-01 17:58:00 Author: SnipySev Posts: 2452 |
A blocking system that prevents people below a certain age playing your levels would be an extremely welcome feature IMO. | 2011-10-01 18:12:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
A blocking system that prevents people below a certain age playing your levels would be an extremely welcome feature IMO. I was always hoping for a recommended age and skill for levels as part of the tagging system. | 2011-10-01 18:14:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
I was always hoping for a recommended age and skill for levels as part of the tagging system. Or this ^, yeah... Better still, here's hoping that Mm (or another games company who are equally as capable) will one day make an adult-targetted equivalent of LBP. | 2011-10-01 18:30:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
Seems like it'd be a good function imo, like Snipy said it has its downside of someone banning you from playing their level due to something like a review saying it wasn't the best, but in that situation, it would be the creator's fault. It would prevent a few trolls from getting you good grief'd. While this doesn't have to do with this subejct entirely, I'd also think something of the opposite should come too, being able to add a list of people for who can play a loced or sub level. I know we alreayd have keys but it seems keys were intended for unlocking, while this list could be directed mainly at people, like beta testers, for example. No need to run over to someone's pod, have them get out the key then go to play mode. It may seem like a lazy way out, but people can also get key glitches so this could actually solve that possibly incase of trouble like that, plus it saves time and would be more organized, but that's just me. Also, I like your idea Ungreth, although I do think it might be better, like jww said, if instead of mainly denying people below a certain age playability of a level, but instead at least puttng your own level ESRP-esque format, with options to say what it contains. This would be especially good for horror levels/movies, as some can get moderated just cause there's a little blood or whatever, which is outrageous. Although, I'm not fully sure, let's hope for a better griefing sytem at least. ^^ | 2011-10-01 23:44:00 Author: Dragonvarsity Posts: 5208 |
Trolls blocking their "trolling targets" from playing their levels? Someone not accepting constructive reviews and blocking all their levels to people who criticized them? As if that was a big deal... I wouldn't bother playing levels from these kinds of people. http://cdn3.knowyourmeme.com/i/000/101/781/original/Y0UJC.png?1298581940 | 2011-10-01 23:53:00 Author: gdn001 Posts: 5891 |

No need to run over to someone's pod, have them get out the key then go to play mode. That's a really good idea. It would be a huge help for team projects. On the topic at hand - while it might seem like a good idea, this could cause more problems than it would solve...there are so many ways to abuse a feature like that and the trolls will do what they always do: create new accounts and multiply their efforts to harass people. I've seen a couple big websites recently take more rigid stances on trolling and really cracking down in their forums: checking IP addresses, removing harassing comments from new accounts, etc. I'd be nice to see mm and Sony adopt some of that thinking and update the EULA as well, perhaps revoking commenting and reviewing privileges for users that frequently cause trouble. | 2011-10-02 00:59:00 Author: Chazprime Posts: 587 |
A blocking system that prevents people below a certain age playing your levels would be an extremely welcome feature IMO. I've just realised what a stupid idea this is. I guess it would be handy for older players who are happy with just a small handful of friends playing their levels, but for anyone hoping for a decent playcount (ie: most creators) it would be professional suicide, since 99.9% of LBP players are little kids who have their hair washed by their mums and think Ben-10 is the coolest show in the world. Being a regular here at LBPC where many of the more mature players congregate, it's easy to forget that we are actually a distinct minority in the overall demographic. A feature like this would be so seldom used that it wouldn't even be worth Mms time to even implement it. | 2011-10-03 18:17:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
Nay. The system is fine the way it is. Any attempt to prevent jerks from being jerks will just make a mess. Just don't let trolls/haters bother you so much. They always tell you to ignore bullies when you're growing up. It's sometimes complicated by the fact that bullies have fists, but when you're online there aren't any fists. If you ignore them, there's nothing they can do to hurt you. | 2011-10-03 23:27:00 Author: Sehven Posts: 2188 |
Actually it's a bit like Ung said, I don't care about the mass playing my levels, I'm fine with my friends. I realized that I would even want to unheart myself, since people hearted me only to stalk my activities and not for my skills. Heck, for the last, stupid, thing I published, I didn't even open a thread in level/object showcase. It's not only about trolls, it's about having your level played from people that actually understand it. | 2011-10-04 07:18:00 Author: OmegaSlayer Posts: 5112 |
