Controllable Animated Hologram Characters

Archive: 4 posts

I just got an animated character from a level as a way of helping me to understand how to make my own, but if anything, it's only made me more confused than ever. There are so many wires, I can't tell where one begins and another starts. Some tools seem useless to me, or more likely I just don't understand what they do. Between tutorials and this finished preview product, I'm now resorting to direct one-on-one help. Please, if anyone can give me some of their time to join me at my level and explain some of the logic, I'd be very grateful; this entire process has been really overwhelming.2011-09-29 07:23:00

I haven't done any major animation myself, but don't lose heart!

The reason that they're are so many wires is simple, though it looks scary. Each bit of your awesome pony is a single block of holo so one static frame needs to all turn on together. Which is why there is so many wires for these things. Wire each block of the pony to the same port of a selector and then switch between the active port in the tweak menu. It's basically a light switch controlling a lot of lights.

To get friendly, make an arrow out of holo and clone it one more time then use a selector and wire output 1 to one of them and 2 to the other one. If you switch the active port back and forwards one will be on while the other is off.

If the arrows are overlaid but with one slightly ahead of the other it will like one arrow moving back and forwards.

I will be home in about half an hour and I can jump on to quickly show you if you like...

That would be amazing, just add me on zippy93. In the mean time, I'll try that out on my own.2011-09-29 07:58:00

Good luck with the setup!

I forgot to mention that the controlinator in the "Animation Control" chip is set to 'nearest player' shouldn't be a problem but it would be a good idea to hook the 'active' output of the "My Little Big Pony Saddle" into the active input of this chip.

Meaning that the animations will ONLY play if you are sitting in the saddle.

....aaaaaand THATS why I name all my chips.
