First Try at Creating!: Daring Escape from Another Castle!

Archive: 9 posts

Hey everyone! Hope you're doing alrite, i'll try to keep this one really brief.

I just published my first level, the same as this thread, it's called "Daring Escape from Another Castle". This is my first stab at creating, and as such it's a pretty simple level, mostly a learning activity for myself.

That said, this is the first time i'm confident enough, that at least, the level's playable. It's a pretty straight forward platforming level, with a couple (or may be just one xD) of easy puzzles.

I'll just clarify the two things that raised questions during playtesting (yeah, playtesting =P) -Don't read if you want to try and solve it for yourselves-:

1) There's a hole in the waterfall (with a pretty big red arrow pointing at it), through which you pass to the background layer, and then go down a well. Thus, continuing your adventure (?).

2) Fangs goes with Wolf, Spider Web with Spider, and Feathers with Hen. (If you didn't get it on your own, now you do )

I think that's it. Of course, I value any and all feedback, thank you for playing (well, whoever does) and I hope you have fun, i put a lot of time into this. I really, really hope you like it =D

(Who wants screenshots!? Yay!)

PS: Be kind and overlook any spelling, grammar or general mistakes, i'm not a native speaker, so it kinda comes and goes xD And we both know you do understand what i'm trying to get across xD

I got to say, just from the screen shots I can tell your way ahead of the "my first level" type of levels. Il queue this up for tomorrow

EDIT: your profile is hidden on the web, I cannot queue it up.

Thank you so much!!! You were right, and now it's fixed, thank you very very much. People like you are the reason the internet's still cool.

ok now I will queue your level for tomorrow.

EDIT: BTW, I will criticize your level the same as I would any other, because criticism is the best type of review; it shows you how to improve while "wow that was fun" tells you very little.

Pretty, good, your art is way better than my art will ever be :/ the only major flaw I see is that I can see the wall at the very start, that instantly tells me alot about the level so fix that..2011-09-28 01:38:00

You mean the edge of the level right?? I think it blends well with the overall "stone walls" theme.2011-09-28 02:29:00

That's on purpose actually, but i can understand how someone can think it's not, may be it's not a "proper" technique, but i'm comfortable with how it looks, it's what i was trying to do. Though, using Front View while in Create Mode, you can actually see there's a tiny sliver of air between the structure and the level's edge, and that bothers me.

I can't believe there's people playing it =D
